I was walking down the hall, trying to balance with all my books in my hands when one fell right in front of me. I sighed and was about to reach down and grab it when someone picked it up and held it out for me. I looked up and tensed up when I saw those beautiful brown eyes that I've been wishing for them to glance at me. I blushed under his gaze and hesitantly took my book from him.
"Sorry." I muttered quietly and held the books to my chest.
A muffled voice spoke as I started to regain my senses. I slowly wiggled my fingers and I let out a huge breath. I squinted my eyes open but quickly closed them due to the bright light.
"-He gave me his dorky grin and pushed his hair out of his face-" I opened my eyes again and saw a nurse sitting down next to me reading my book that I was currently working on.
I blinked and stared up at the white ceiling, regaining my senses. I felt strangely calm, that sort of state you are in after you've had a good cry.
" 'Sorry, I'm Mabel. Nice to meet you!' I said while grinning shyly at him." The nurse continued.
Why was I feeling so calm? Why did I feel so...empty?
Manny.
"M-manny." I whispered but it sort of broke off. The nurse continued reading to me and I felt a sort of panic rise in my chest.
"M-mom." I whispered again but I couldn't even hear myself.
"M-m-manny!" I stumbled out trying to breathe. I suddenly started to get dizzy and I couldn't see straight.
The nurse saw me awake and panicking, instantly putting my book down and rubbing my arms.
"Honey everything is alright. You're safe."
No it's not. Something is wrong.
"Where-" I tried to speak but I couldn't find words. Why couldn't I speak?
"Where are they?" I tried again and the nurse looked sympathetic.
Then it dawned. My heart dropped to my stomach.
The fire, the ring, Manny, mom, and the police.
"I-I'm all alone now."
