Chapter 3 - Pandora's Nightmare

It's been sometime since Atryn has met the Doctor, and as she led him to the place where the survivor ran from, he couldn't help but ramble some questions about her and Pandora.

She answered some, questions like, 'What species is she?', 'Where did she exactly come from?', 'How many clans are there?' But she got to the point where she became annoyed. Until they finally made it.

The place was empty, some broken twigs and bunch of leaves were lying around, but nothing else. He was about to say something, but she shushes him, "Quiet, I'm trying to concentrate."

With her Na'vi senses, she found various objects and clues. Objects like a broken bow, a small pouch, and some cloths that seemed to be ripped apart by claws. Then she came across a clue that made sent a shiver down her spine, a trail of blood.

"Doctor!" she called him over, he came and saw the sight, "Any idea on what it might be?"

"Maybe," he said, she rolled her eyes, she then sniffs the air, "What are you doing?" he asked.

"Tracking, if I find a scent trail, then we can follow it to whatever it leads," she answered, after a few moments, "Got something," she points at a direction, "That way."

With her Na'vi senses she follows the scent trail of blood, with the Doctor behind her. They came up to a lake, it seemed calm and serene, "The trail stopped," she mutters. The two look around for any other clues.

Until a small puddle of yellow liquid caught the Doctor's attention. While inspecting it, Atryn saw something, or what she saw that was in the waters, she took a closer look. When she kneeled down, the reflection seemed fine. She was only greeted with herself, following her movements as the water gently rippled.

In the corner of her eye, she noticed a movement in the reflection that wasn't her own. She turned her head to see what's behind her, but she saw nothing. She looked back at the reflection, only to see whatever it is coming closer. She looked back behind her, but still saw nothing. Atryn became worried, confused, and a bit scared. She gripped her bow tightly, fearing that whatever it is, is about to attack.

She looked back at the waters, only to see herself, and a creature that is as big as her, standing over her. Then she felt a hot searing pain in her shoulder. She yells out as she looks at her shoulder, as it now has deep marks with blood oozing out.

Then she feels herself being lifted, "Doctor!" she yells out. He turns to see her getting thrown to the side like nothing. She landed on her back, and she felt an intense pain going throughout her entire body.

She gets back up, as she shakily points her bow at the air, meanwhile the Doctor points device at the same spot she was thrown from. It reveals what they're dealing with.

"Krafayis! They are Krafayis! Fantastic!" exclaimed the Doctor.

"Glad you think so!" shouted Atryn sarcastically, then she gets an idea, reaches in her pouch and pulls out a handful of colorful powder, and she throws it at the invisible creature. It covers the creature, making at least a bit visible to her.

She smirks and says, "Now it's fair," as she pulls out a dagger. She lunges at the creature and the two fight, almost animalistically.

She stabs it, deep into its flesh. It roars out in pain and flings her away, then it scurries off. She sighs as she slightly stumbles to a tree to sit down.

"Well, that was something," said the Doctor, then asks, "What was that?" referring to the powder.

She answers, "Aranahe dyes, gifted to me by an Aranahe dyer," then she winces, she reaches into her bag, and mutters, "Damn, must forgotten to resupply."

"Everything alright?" he asked.

"I'm fine, but it seemed I have forgotten to bring Dapophet pods with me, again," she answered, then she looks at him, "Do you think you can gather some for me?"

"Uh, yeah, sure, um, what do they look like?" he inquired.

"They are found on small dapophet trees, luckily we are at a lake, so they shouldn't be that hard to find, and they look relatively small, but have rather large leaves, the pods are right on the bark. You can also see small butterflies flying near them," she explained.

He nods, and walks away, closer to the shoreline to find the pods. Then he sees four dapophet trees. He gets closer and notices how it looks, he then grabs four pods, "This should suffice," he muttered, then runs back to her.

"Is this it?" he handed her the pods.

"Yes," she grabs them, "This is how we heal," and she bites down on one of the pods. She sighs in relief as she felt her pain going away. She feels her wounds closing back up steadily. Then she gets up, "We need to return to Hometree, and tell them what transpired here."

After some time, the two return at the hometree, with the two leaders and Tsahiks waiting for them. They noticed that Atryn has a few injuries on her, plus a couple of puncture wounds on her shoulders, they are healing thanks to the Dapophet pods, but they were still visible.

Her mother rushes up to her, and cups her daughter's cheeks, "Ma 'ite, are you alright?"

"Yes, Sa'nok. I'm fine, its only scratches now," answered Atryn.

The two leaders then approached, the leader of the Omatikaya asked, "So, what have you discovered?"

The Doctor shows the tablet to the leaders, "They're called Krafayis. They are generally invisible to the naked eye, unless seen in reflections. I could assume that the ones that are here were left behind by their pack."

"Pack?" questioned the leader of the Sarentu.

"Krafayis generally travel in packs, but when they leave planets, they leave behind the weakest ones, and those typically become more violent and destructive," explained the Doctor.

"So, they're lonely," concluded the Tsahik of the Omatikaya sadly.

Then Atryn chimed in, "Then let us put them out of their loneliness, they have caused enough damage already."

"Well, it won't be easy, and there are about two of them to deal with," said the Doctor.

A hunter from the Omatikaya overheard his comment, a bit offended he asked, "Are you saying that our strength won't be enough?"

Then a Sarentu warrior added, "Not only there is one clan here, but there is two, and we know how to fight!"

Panicked, the Doctor corrected, "No, no, no, I don't mean to insult. I meant that these are hard to fight since I said they are generally invisible."

"So, we'll make them visible," said Atryn, "Remember when I threw the dyes at it? They revealed where the creatures were."

"Sounds like a solid plan," said the Doctor, changing his tone, sounded a bit too cheerful.

After much careful planning, with the help of few volunteers, the People are ready to face the fear. In the center of Hometree, Atryn spoke the plan, "The Doctor and I will get the attention of the creatures, then Tani and Nayla will throw the dyes at them, the rest of the group will then strike at them. Remember do not let your guard down and do not give them the chance to escape."
