[10] Well Done Dragon

All of us were excited for the upcoming First Task. None of the champions nor the students had any idea what it was going to be so the feasts in the Great Hall, which was our main communal gathering, was always abuzz with students placing bets on what the task could be.

Though it was definitely some sort of magical creature because Hagrid had been getting really excited too and it seemed as if it was getting really hard for him to keep all secretive about it.

The twins once almost got it out of him but he had managed to stop himself right in the nick of time.

But when a day before the First Task when we saw Charlie and a group of his Romanian friends having dinner in the Great Hall as well we realized exactly what the task was going to be.

Dragons.

No wonder the tasks for the tournament were not to be taken easily.

The First Task was supposed to be held in the Quidditch Ground so all of us were assembled in our seats at the stadium. The Champions had been taken to a tent beforehand while the Dragon cages were being brought out by Hagrid as well as the Romanian team including Charlie.

Fred and George took advantage of the event and grabbed the opportunity of collecting galleons from students who were placing bets upon which Champion would succeed and who will be eliminated. Unfortunately, most of the bets were against Harry because no one expected a fourteen year old, regardless that he was the Chosen One, to battle off a dragon thrice his size and collect the golden egg.

I sincerely hope he makes out alive.

The canon was sounded and the first Champion to battle the Swedish Short Snout was summoned by the commentator Ludo Bagman. And the Champion tasked to face the blue gray dragon was Cedric Diggory.

Cheers and applause shook the whole arena as Cedric stepped forward though we could all clearly see that he was trying his best to appear calm but facing a dragon obviously resulted in some nervousness to peek through.

Cedric was a good student and a nice friend, the true definition of a loyal Hufflepuff so of course I wanted him to succeed in the task.

"Ten galleons say pretty boy will be set alight in this task," Fred mumbled and that got him a hard smack on the head.

"Ten galleons say he'll pass," I replied.

"Ten galleons say you will visit him in the Hospital wing when this is all over," George snickered.

My reply was immediate, "ten galleons say you'll be Silencioed in the next five minutes."

"Ten galleons say me and Katie would be glad to do it on your behalf," Angelina offered.

"No Johnson, keep your ideas to yourself."

"We are not getting Silencioed by either of you."

"Well if you do not shut up, you will," Katie piped up, "focus on the task, idiots."

Cedric had transformed a boulder into a Labrador dog that jumped around the dragon distracting it from the golden egg. Nice strategy though. But just as Cedric reached out for the Golden Egg stealthily, the dragon turned back and fire erupted from its nostrils.

"Pay up," Fred had his hand out in front of me.

But I chose to ignore him, focusing on the arena, "shut up. All payments will be done after the task."

"Better keep that in mind then."

However, Cedric passed and retreated to the tent with the Golden Egg. He had received a few burns but I am sure Madam Pomfrey will see to it that he recovers soon.

At the second canon fire, Fleur Delacour stepped out fated to battle the Common Welsh Green. I don't know why many people think Fleur doesn't have the guts to be in the Tournament just because she's a quarter Veela but seriously though I believe she must be decently talented for the Goblet to choose her out of the whole Beauxbatons population.

She charmed the dragon and put it off to sleep and retrieved the Golden Egg but when the dragon snored, the fire from its nostrils burned her robes after which she had to be hurried to the tent for first aid.

At least nothing fatal has happened yet.

"See the dragons over there?" Fred pointed to the remaining two cages, "that one is the Chinese Fireball and the other is the Hungarian Horntail."

"I'm kinda curious to see who gets the Horntail," George added, "Charlie had said it's the most lethal of the lot."

"Pray it isn't Harry who faces the Horntail then," I mumbled.

"Given our past experiences with how the Chosen One has a twisted luck, I would bet Harry's got the Horntail."

And even though I felt like smacking them on the heads once again for even voicing out such a possibility, deep down I knew they were right. Harry had a terrible luck and there was a high chance he was going to face the Horntail.

Our suspicions were confirmed when the third canon was fired and Victor Krum came out to face the Chinese Fireball. That left the Horntail to poor dear Harry.

"It's either Harry has a terrible luck or we have a terribly cursed tongue," George spoke up, "everything we say comes true."

"Then I would rather you both shut up before you make a death prediction."

"Oh come on Kat, predictions aren't our cup of tea. You're the Seer, remember?"

Oh God, not again... The two launched into an elaborate impression of Professor Trelawney and her assumptions regarding me being a Seer.

"You have the eyes of a Seer, my dear!"

"I can see the great Cassandra in you!"

"Beware of falling!"

Though those three words brought back a rush of memories which kept me so distracted that when I snapped out of it and focused back on the arena, Krum had returned to the tent with the Egg.

"Having a vision again, dear?" Fred asked, dissolving in laughter.

A smile spread on my face as I spoke, "my prediction is that Harry will succeed in the task with the most points and you two will give me half of the galleons you have collected up till now."

A small frown spread on both their features, "the first prediction might be valid but we are never going to let the second one come true."

The canon was fired and Harry stepped out at last to face the Hungarian Horntail. I can only imagine what must be going through his mind. But then he has faced many troubles already and survived, I hope he survives the task too.

He took his wand out and summoned his Firebolt which was quite unexpected for all of us but a great decision on his part because we all know Harry is a natural at flying. Seemed as if his strategy was to make the dragon chase him and then grab the egg.

"Bloody marvelous, Harry!" The twins shouted at the top of their lungs, "only you can have the guts to challenge a dragon to a flight competition."

The Horntail rose after him and chased Harry as he whizzed past the arena, launching higher and higher to keep the dragon away from the Egg. In the whole commotion, the Horntail had knocked off the teachers' stand erected in the arena at which Fred and George stood up applauding, "well done Dragoooooooooooon!"

Harry made a sharp dive towards the nest while the dragon was still in the air and scooped the Egg. Charlie and the other dragon wranglers came out to tackle the Horntail but the canon fired afterwards announced the end of the task.

Harry did not come out fully unscathed in fact he did receive an injury from the dragon's spikes and was taken to Madam Pomfrey. But what mattered was that he tied first position with Krum.

"Now pay up," I turned to the twins with a triumphant smile on my face.

"Merlin, sometimes we think old Trelawney was right and you really are a Seer," George huffed as the two counted the galleons before handing over the amount.

I gave them back ten galleons and when they looked at me in surprise, I shrugged, "oh because I'm definitely going to the Hospital Wing to visit both Ced and Harry."

Their eyes sparked as they remarked teasingly, "so it's Ced now?"

"Silencio!"
