Lincoln Continental 1982

Addilyn ignored Brea's bewildered protests as she pushed past her. She had known that revisiting that day was going to be a challenge. It had reopened a wound she'd been trying to ignore for years. But the scar had been torn open and was now throbbing with a grief like no other.

Maybe Blaise would be able to help her understand why it had happened. After her family was killed, Addilyn had scrounged up whatever she could find and fled. At the time she had no idea where the train she'd caught was headed. She didn't care, as long as it was far away from her dead family.

Flinging the door to Blaise's room open, Addilyn said,

"I did it."

Turning around Blaise replied,

"Tell me everything." Inhaling deeply, Addilyn told him of the three baby robins with her mother and the one remaining egg she had seen in the vision. She explained how her family had been murdered at the hands of a strange gang of intruders.

"Why were you the only one left alive?"

"I have no idea." Blaise scrunched his eyebrows together in deep concentration.

"I feel like the answer is right in front of us. I just can't seem to get the puzzle pieces right though."

"Listen, I left Brea as soon as I got out of the memory. She's looking for me and will probably be here any second. We have to get out of here." Addilyn gently tugged Blaise's arm.

"Okay, you start the car. I'll be down in a second. I just have to grab one more thing." Tossing Addilyn the keys to the car, Blaise bolted out of the room.

The plan wasn't perfect, but at least they had something. Edging along the wall, Addilyn quickly peeked down the stairwell.

"Addilyn..." Brea's voice was distant but still close enough to make Addilyn sweat. Thankfully the estate was large, but Addilyn was sure Brea would eventually find her if they didn't leave soon.

Sneaking out the back door in the kitchen, Addilyn ran with every fiber of her being to the garage. Blaise's car was a light tan color with a shiny metal Lincoln logo on the front.

She had stuffed a few clothing items and toiletries in a canvas bag the night before, hoping it would be enough. Setting her bag down she turned the key in the ignition and prayed she wouldn't crash the vehicle. Unfortunately, she hadn't had much experience driving cars. Much less plotting escape routes.

Glancing in the rearview mirror, she could see Blaise sprinting towards the car.

Brea was hot on his heels. Slamming the car door shut, Blaise sat down in the passenger seat. In between labored breaths he cried,

"Hit the gas and let's go!" Addilyn shifted gears and managed to get the car safely onto the dirt road leading away from the estate.

"So what painting did you say we were going to see?"
