Chanyeol decided not to confront Baekhyun about him writing all over his notes and answering questions that were never asked outright. He didn't want to start an argument with Baekhyun when Kyungsoo was still upset over Jongin. Even though it had been a few days, his friend showed little signs of improvement.

Baekhyun, as naive as ever, took it upon himself to comfort his friend. One could often find him with his hand on Kyungsoo's back, rubbing gentle circles into Kyungsoo's back.

Chanyeol told himself that it didn't bother him.

They were drifting apart, Baekhyun's focus was on Kyungsoo and Chanyeol had his notepad. It was pathetic, really.

Chanyeol supposed it was their fault. Everything went too quickly. They had acted on infatuation, and now, maybe it was time that infatuation wore off.

But the two of them still sat in the library at uncanny hours, exchanging small kisses that seemed like an out of body experience for the both of them.

Chanyeol didn't know what to do. Baekhyun wasn't going to break it apart, not when he couldn't see that they were drifting.

He wasn't going to be the one to shatter Baekhyun's heart though. (And then he reminded himself that the heart had nothing to do with feelings, and that the people in the past were idiots, and that he was being a hypocrite.)

Stop digressing! Chanyeol shook his head. His thoughts had been a mess lately. Maybe it was time to talk to Kyungsoo, just to have a change of scenery.

"... people are selfish." As Chanyeol rounded the corner, he saw Kyungsoo leaning against the wall, talking to Baekhyun. "It's human nature to be so. We can't help the urge to act in our own best interest." he paused. "Baekhyun? Are you okay?"

Chanyeol plastered his back to the wall and listened.

"Soo, am I really ignorant?" Sniffles. "I wish Chanyeol had the guts to say it to my face though..."

"Baek," Kyungsoo chided gently, "you're just too nice."

"Too much of a good thing is a bad thing—too much of anything is a bad thing."

"Hey, what are you doing?" Chanyeol looked around, spotting Jongin in front of him. "You look like you're about to cry."

Chanyeol blinked. "It's nothing." He bit his lip. "You should go talk to Kyungsoo."

"Why? Because Baekhyun's attention is all on Kyungsoo and not you?" Jongin put a hand up before Chanyeol could object. "And I've tried talking to Kyungsoo. The kid refuses to listen."

"He's older."

"Doesn't matter."

"What are you two doing?" Chanyeol heard Baekhyun's voice. Baekhyun avoided Chanyeol's gaze, feeling guilty. "How long have you been standing there?"

"Not that long," Jongin answered. "Where's Kyungsoo?"

"Right here." The short boy crossed his arms. "What do you want?"

"Can I talk to you? Alone?"

"I don't know, can you?" Kyungsoo rolled his eyes.

"Yes Kyungsoo. I'm sure I am physically capable of talking to you alone."

"Fine fine, lead the way." He waved his hand. "But make it quick."

Jongin pulled Kyungsoo into the library. "Look, I'm leaving in a week. Six days, to be exact. I want to spend at least one of them with you. I don't know how long it'll be before I can see you again and I want some memories to take with me. Please Kyungsoo, we've been friends for forever. Look, I'll get on my knees and beg you." As he was speaking, Jongin lowered himself onto his knees and clasped his hands together. "Please!"

And it was really pathetic from an outsider's point of view, but Kyungsoo couldn't help but laugh. He patted Jongin's hair, relishing the moments when he was taller than the sun kissed male. "Sure. But you'll have to thank Baekhyun. He's the one who got me to stop resenting you."

"Baekhyun really is something. Chanyeol is very lucky."

"Maybe... he doesn't seem so lucky right now." Kyungsoo muttered the last part under his breath, and Jongin didn't notice. "Get up, you moron."

Jongin stood up sheepishly, dusting his pants off. "So today?"

"Don't push your luck. I have class..." he checked his watch. "... in five minutes!?" Kyungsoo ran for the door, yelling a farewell behind him. Jongin shook his head. Kyungsoo may have seemed calm and collected, but he was just as disorganized and spontaneous as ever.

"Hey Baek! Baek!" Chanyeol didn't know how it happened, but he found himself chasing after Baekhyun, who either had gone deaf or was simply ignoring him (Chanyeol had a feeling that it was the latter). "Byun Baekhyun!"

"Yeah?" Baekhyun finally replied, completely aloof, as if he hadn't just been ignoring his supposed boyfriend.

"What's wrong?" Chanyeol panted, out of breath.

"What do you mean, what's wrong? Everything's fine!"

"Everything is not fine! You've been ignoring me. And you aren't giving me any explanation!" Baekhyun opened his mouth to speak, only to be cut of before he could even start. "Don't say that you 'want alone time', you've had plenty of that! Baekhyun, do you think this was all a mistake? Do you think that we've gone too fast?"

"Why are you scared?" Baekhyun wandered closer, cupping Chanyeol's face. "Are you scared?"

"Why wouldn't I be? I- I don't want to lose you... but..." Chanyeol sighed.

"But?" Baekhyun coaxed gently.

"Maybe it's for the best..." Chanyeol murmured meekly, uncertain.

"Why?"

There was a long pause. Then...

"I don't know anymore, Baek. I just don't know."

Chanyeol just wanted a reset button. To pretend as if he had never met Baekhyun... at least, not under those circumstances. He had never expected love to be so difficult... people in the books made it look so easy.

But life wasn't like the books, was it?
