Scene: 4

Directer's Office

Directer: (humming to himself) Yes, I like the way they are.... Oh, how fun it is to be in charge.

(Sedgewick knocks on the door, but before Directer can answer, he stumbles in with a load of papers dropping all over the floor.)

Sedgewick: GAH!! Sorry sir!

(Brendan and Portia giggle)

Directer: What is it, you fool? I'm busy!

(Brendan and Portia giggle again, a little louder this time)

Directer: (he snaps his fingers at them) Quiet! All of you! (the laughing sieses) Now (folding his hands) what is it, Sedgewick?

Sedgewick: Sir, the children keep disappearing in the forest and the parents are starting to complain.

Directer: Oh...well...umm...err.... What do they suggest we do?

Sedgewick: (gulps) Uh, well... they want us to... go in and... get them.

Directer: (stands up, laughs then with rage says) I will do nothing of the sort! Why do you think that one of the rules is to not go into the forest! It's dangerous in there! They'll just have to get new ones.

Sedgewick: New children, sir?

Directer: Yes! People do it all of the time! Is it difficult?

Sedgewick: Um... well I wouldn't want to say that in front of the audience. There might be children.

Directer: What audience?

Sedgewick: None. Just.... what do I tell them, sir?

Directer: (sighs) Perhaps it's best if we tell them that we are doing the best we can.

Sedgewick: Wouldn't that be.... Like lying?

Directer: Not unless I say it is! Now what are you still standing around her for? Go! And pick up those bloody papers!

(Sedgewick struggles to pick up as many papers as he can while he exits)

Directer: I swear! It's like I work with children!
