It's time to bring him in, don't you think?
********
*Shadow's POV*
"I block the numbers of those who keep calling. Don't you?" The pink hedgehog asked Rouge as we all walked away from the already won battle.
"I do, I even changed my number, but for some reason, it keeps getting leaked to the public. They keep calling to ask about him." Rouge answered as she flew above us. "As if we know where Blue went."
"Do they call you?" The echidna asked me.
"They tried to." I said, remembering the number of people who tried to call me only for me to threaten them, and they instantly stopped. News travels fast that I don't like to be bothered.
"I'm hungry. Aren't you?" The twin tailed fox said as he walked ahead of us. He didn't like conversations like this, and if I was being honest, I didn't either.
When Eggman came back, I was expecting Sonic to be back as well. I wanted to talk to him like we promised we would. It had been hard at first, and I had left because I still had feelings for him, so I kept myself busy. It came as a surprise when I found out that he had left with no explanation after he did what he did to Rose and Miles.
Something felt wrong when I heard that. How could Sonic act the way he did to them? They were his best friends.
"Yeah. Let's go get something to eat!" Rose said as she caught up to the fox and rested a hand on his shoulder.
The fox had not taken this lightly either. He stayed locked up in his lab for days on end unless we had an attack. He looked depressed.
How could Sonic have done that? I didn't believe it one bit. But I always wondered what had happened to him.
Telling his best friend, his brother, that he's just a sidekick, that he would never amount to anything because his experiments will always fail and that he couldn't handle things on his own was hard to believe. He would never talk to his best friend like that, yet he did. He told him he didn't need him, that he had always used him, and he felt pitty for him.
And telling Rose that she was useless, that her issues were not worth his time. He wished he would have crushed her heart to pieces when she had the chance just for fun was even harder to believe. But he did. He said those things. He told both his friends he didn't need them nor did he ever want to see them again. Then saved the voice recording of their calls and sent it to them as a reminder.
It just didn't feel like something he would do. I couldn't believe it but I had heard it myself and it was, in fact, his voice. Plus, there was no way for me to try and convince his friends that it had not been him who said those things, not with the proof they had.
"You coming with?" I looked up to see Rouge and shook my head.
"No. I'm going home." I said calmly, she landed in front of me to stop me from walking away.
"Is everything okay, Hun?" She reached for me, but I took a step back. While I was dating Sonic, he managed to help me break down my walls, helped me trust the others, and be nicer to them. That didn't change even after we broke up.
"I just want to go home, Rouge." I said, and she nodded.
"Okay then. I'll take you something to eat later?" She asked softly. She had been seriously concerned about me since the breakup and had not left my side at all. She kept coming with me mission after mission, not taking a break and keeping at my pace. She was worried about me. All I was trying to do was keep myself busy, trying to ignore the fact that it was my fault that we broke up.
It's not like I didn't want what Sonic wanted. It's that I was afraid. And instead of telling him that, I lied and told him I couldn't give him the life he wanted. I loved him, and I had never stopped loving him.
"It's okay, Rouge. I have food at home." With that said, I chaos controlled home and placed my phone and communicator down on the counter.
Just before I started to walk away, I heard my phone start to ring, so I looked at it in case it was another attack from Eggman. It was a random number that I didn't recognize, but I answered anyway since it could be anyone at G.U.N.
"Hello?" I asked over the phone.
"Thank chaos." The man on the other side of the phone sighed with relief. "This is Shadow, right? You're Sonics ex?" I rolled my eyes and started to move my phone away so I could hang up, but they soon started yelling. "Please don't hang up! Please don't! No one else of his friends will answer me! Sonic needs help!"
My heart dropped when I heard that, and I quickly pressed my phone back to my ear.
"What do you mean he needs help? Who are you? Where is he?" I asked sternly.
"He -" The man stopped talking, and I heard someone else talk in the background. My eyes widened at realizing it was Sonic.
"W-who are you talking to?" Sonic said, his voice sounding shaky and weak.
"To your ex." The man said rather slowly.
"Hang. Up." Sonic said, his voice breaking.
"Sonic, you're supposed to be resting. Please. I tried calling the others, and they -"
"Hang up the call!" Sonic shouted. "N-Now!" There was a pause, and then I heard footsteps. "I-Im so sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I'm sorry." My heart shattered at hearing him start crying.
"Where is he?" I started to growl. "What did you do to him?" I snapped.
"Whoa. Chaos. Relax. I didn't do anything to him." The man said to me. "Sonic. Relax. I told you you don't have to apologize to me. You're safe."
"Hang up the phone, please." Sonics voice broke. "Even if it wasn't my fault. They don't care."
"Let me talk to him." I demanded, but the call was cut.
I instantly tried to call back, but the call kept going to voicemail over and over again.
