*Hailey's P.O.V.*
I never really took a moment to realize just how beautiful this island, and this park was. Sitting in the back of the Jeep as we were basically flooring it through the woods, kind of gave me a new perspective of the park. Seeing the way the sun peeped through openings of branches at the top of the trees above us. How green and lively the plants were around us. It all seemed so natural...so peaceful. Too bad there's a gigantic, man-eating dinosaur on the loose that's preventing us from really appreciating the beauty around us. I rested an elbow each on the back of both Gray and Zach's seats, poking my head in between them. "You know, the fact that we're currently trying to escape a carnivorous dinosaur is really dampening just how cool this place is."
Zach looked at me through the rearview mirror and smiled. "What? Being chased by a carnivorous dinosaur isn't cool enough for you?"
"Ha Ha, not what I meant," I replied, shrugging my shoulders. "I'm just saying that this thing is really putting a damper on the fun."
He turned to looked at me and gave me a smirk. "When they said that Middleton East kids were always looking for a rush, they weren't kidding."
I nudged him with my elbow and plopped back into the seat. "Just keep driving."
"And look at the road, please." Gray said, turning his brothers face back towards the windshield. "You do know that keeping an eye on the road is a crucial part of driving, as well as passing your drivers test."
I chuckled to myself as Zach continued to speed through the woods. "Hold on, we're busting through this gate!"
I held onto the bottom of my seat as Zach pressed on the gas, breaking the chain and busting the gate open. The Jeep rattled a little bit, but with Zach's foot still on the gas, we continued on. Perfect too, because we were no longer in the forrest, but instead on one of the dirt roads the park made for its employees to drive on when needing to get places. Being out of the forrest actually felt freeing. It was almost as if this huge weight lifted off of my shoulders and I could finally breath again. If anything though, it felt as if being out of that forrest, meant that we were safe. Though, I knew that wasn't the truth. We had no idea where this dinosaur was, for all we knew– it was in the valley.
But as far as I could tell and see, it was nowhere near us...and that was good enough for me for the time being.
"Okay, that's it," Zach said, looking at Gray and I. "We're safe now."
In the corner of my eye, I saw something fall onto the seat next to me. It was probably something as simple as a nut or an acorn from the trees above us. Still, I turned my head to look and saw neither of those....but instead, bird poop. "Okay, let's hurry this up," I said, scooting a little bit away from the mess. "I think a bird just tried to kamikaze me with its poop."
Gray laughed and turned around, his eyes instantly looking above us. His mouth dropped and his eyes went wide. "Go," He said, tapping the dashboard. "Go, go!"
I turned around to see what had his so frightened and that's when I saw the flock of not birds, but prehistoric birds. I looked straight ahead and tapped the back of Zach's seat. "FLOOR IT!"
Zach looked into the rearview mirror to see the giant birds flying above us, and quickly shifted the gears and pressed on the gas. If we thought we were speeding through this place before, well now we were at a whole new level.
As we cleared the trees completely, I could see the guarded gate ahead of us and up top, were two armed guards. Zach pressed on the horn as we neared the gate, trying to get their attention. I sat up a little higher and waved my arms, trying to get their attention as well. "HEY! HEY OPEN THE GATE!"
"HELP US! OPEN THE GATE!" Gray yelled with me, hitting the dashboard to make any noise.
The guards eyes drifted up just as the birds were nearing the gate. One of them turned to his side and said something into his walkie talkie and before we knew it, the gate was slowly lifting. "Oh my God, I thought they were going to let us in."
"Do we even know where this is going to leave us?" Zach asked, as he pulled into the gate.
"I think the park? This might be where first aid and the call center are at." I said, jolting forward as he came to a stop.
We looked ahead of us to see that there was no room for us to really continue driving and that every employee around us was running frantically. We all unbuckled our seatbelts and got out of the Jeep. "We need to get to shelter so we don't become bird food."
"Actually, they're Pterandons and Dimorphodons," Gray said, causing Zach and I to give him a look. "But yeah, um, let's get to shelter."
"Pick a building," I said, waving my hand around.
"The innovation building," Gray said, nodding his head to our right. "Aunt Claire has got to be there! That's where the science exhibits and stuff is at."
"You know how to get there?" Zach asked, looking at him.
He bit the inside of his cheek and shook his head. "Not really."
"I do. We just get out from behind these buildings, take a right and boom– innovation."
"Okay that sounds–"
"ZACH! GRAY!"
We turned around to see the woman who had picked them up from the drop off point earlier, running towards us. "Zara?" Gray said, looking at the two of us.
She came to a stop in front of us, breathing heavily. "Wow am I sure glad that I found you two. Listen, I've been in contact with your Aunt and she's worried sick about you guys." She was typing away on her phone, taking small breaks to look at them. "You guys just need to come with me and I'll make sure we get somewhere safe."
"Hailey too?" Gray asked, looking at me.
"I really need to find my Uncle–"
"Your uncle...Owen Grady?" Zara asked, putting her phone in her purse.
I nodded frantically and stepped towards her. "Yeah, is he okay?"
"He's with Claire, the two have been looking for you guys for ages. Just come with me, we seriously need to get somewhere before–"
Loud screams came from the direction of the park and I looked up to see the Pterandons and Dimorphodons flying right above us. "We need to leave, NOW!" Zach yelled, grabbing mine and Gray's arms and running towards our set destination.
The adrenaline running through our veins and our flight or fight responses left us not worrying much about leaving Zara behind, but instead, on our own survival. I never thought that I could run as fast as I was running right now, but man, what a power thing adrenaline is. When we broke out into the middle of the park, the freed dinosaurs were swopping down into the Gentle Giant exhibit, chasing people into stores and causing all kinds of chaos. "Wait!" Zach pulled us both to a stop as we stood there, looking around frantically for the direction of the Innovation center.
"Right! We need to go right!" I yelled, pointing in the direction of an even more frantic crowd.
"Don't just stand there!" In one swift movement, a Pterandon grabbed Zara by the back of her shirt, lifting her into the air.
"Oh my God!" I said, shuffling myself backwards as we hopelessly watched her get lifted higher and higher. "We have to do something, we have to help her!"
"How?" Gray asked, watching her get carried away.
I looked to our right to see the Innovation center, and then to the left, where the Pterandons were carrying her. I ran after her, silently praying in my head that maybe they'd just drop her into a bush or something. "Oh shit," I mumbled, my feet slowing down when I realized where she was going to end up.
Her screaming was piercing through the air as the Pterandon dropped her into the Mosasaur exhibit. Zach and Gray came up beside me, and we all looked on as the Pterandons circled above, like pray. "She can get out, right? She'll make it out?" Gray asked, looking at Zach and I.
Zach looked at me with helpless eyes, pleading for me to come up with an answer...but I couldn't. We both knew there was no way she was going to be able to make it out of the tank. I couldn't bare to look at the Pterandons swooped into the water to bring her back up, only to drop her again. I closed my eyes and turned away towards Zach and he put his arm around my waist. A loud grumbling kind of roar, tore me away from Zach and back towards the water. "No way..."
The Mosasaur dove up from the water with it's jaws wide open and clamped them down onto the unsuspecting Pterandon, who had Zara inbetween it's beak. We all stumbled away from the edge as the Mosasaur sunk back beneatht he waves. "Holy shit." I said, still in disbelief at what we had just seen.
"Go! Get inside, now!" Zach pushed Gray ahead of us and turned to me and grabbed my hand. "Hailey, we need to go, now!"
I couldn't take my eyes off of the water as Zach continued to drag me along, trying to catch up to Gray. A loud crash from our right, tore my attention to see a Dimorphodon had slammed itself into a shop window. It was then, as if something in my brain had snapped and I knew I needed to focus on getting somewhere safe so I could find Uncle Owen. I started to run with Zach instead of him having to drag me, and immediately we caught up with Gray. "Aunt Claire!" Zach yelled, staring straight ahead.
"Aunt Claire!" Gray called out, waving an arm in the air.
I was looking in the direction, hoping that was Zara had said earlier was true. That Uncle Owen was with their Aunt Claire. My eyes spotted Uncle Owen, standing nearby the fancy woman from earlier, and I began to wave my arms. "UNCLE OWEN!!"
He looked in our direction with the gun held up. He lowered the gun and went to say something when a Dimorphodon came up from behind him and knocked him to the ground. "NO!" I yelled, letting go of Zach's hand and moving ahead of him.
Zach looked behind us and there was a big Pterangon swopping in from behind us to come up for a sneak attack. "Go, here!" He yelled, pushing Gray to the right and grabbing me from going ahead.
We dove off to the right, trying to hide ourselves as close to wall as possible as the big dinosaur crashed hard to the concrete, seemingly knocking itself unconscious. It continued to slide towards us, his sharp beak posing a huge threat. Zach held both of his arms in front of Gray and I, like his arm was really going to stop that huge beak from stabbing us. We sat there for a few seconds, all trying to catch our breaths as we stared at this huge creature. "Maybe we should move. You know...in case it's not dead?" Gray suggested.
I nodded and took a deep breath. "Yeah, good idea."
Zach stood up and helped me off of the ground. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," I said, brushing myself off. "A little spooked we almost just got stabbed by a prehistoric dinosaur, but yeah...good."
He laughed and nodded his head after Gray. We both followed the younger one as we cautiously walked back into the street where we had been previously running. I looked in the same direction where I had seen Uncle Owen get knocked down, hoping he was okay. When I found him, the fancy woman from earlier, hit the Pterangon in the head with the butt of the gun and then shot it a few times. "Whoa, so she is a badass." I laughed, happy that my instincts from first meeting her, were correct. Uncle Owen should really learn to take my advice.
"Is that Aunt Claire?" Zach asked, looking at Gray before looking straight ahead.
"Who? The redhead, fancy lady?" I asked, nodding my head in her direction.
"Yeah...I think it is." Gray replied.
She put the gun down and helped up Uncle Owen, both of them just staring at each other as if we weren't surrounding by loose prehistoric animals. Uncle Owen, grabbed her by the waist and kissed her, bringing a smile to my face.
They pulled away from their kiss and looked in our direction. The woman had a wave of emotions wash over her face before running towards us. "Zach! Gray!" She came up to us and cradled Gray's face. "Oh, my God! Thank God! Thank God! What happened? What is this? Are you okay? Where did you go?" She looked between the both of them, tears in her eyes. "Why didn't you come back? I was so worried about you?"
"Who is that?" Zach asked, looking up at my Uncle as he walked over.
"That's my Uncle." I smiled, taking just a few steps before I reached him. I wrapped my arms around his neck and him tightly. "I'm so sorry."
He hugged me back even tighter, no doubt the serious look he had on his face, gone. "I was so worried about you."
I pulled away and looked at him. "I know, and I'm sorry for running off like that. You're right, I'm irresponsible and I act like a child..."
"No, I wasn't right. I was just, scared of losing you." He said, his right hand cupping the side of my face. "You're my favorite niece, I'd hate to lose you too."
I hugged him again and smiled. "So, is now a good time to mention that I wrecked your bike in the woods, or?"
"Yeah, we'll talk about that one later."
We pulled away again and I turned towards the boys and Claire. "Nice to see you again," I said, smiling at Claire.
"We work together," Claire said, looking at the two boys before looking at me. "You three had us worried sick. How about we don't do this again, okay?"
"Hey," Uncle Owen said, nodding his head in the direction of an alleyway. "We gotta go."
"Okay, come on, come on." Claire said, shuffling the three of us together as we followed Uncle Owen.
"So let me get this straight...our Aunt and your Uncle..." Zach said, looking at me for an answer.
"Went on an apparently, total failure of a date. Something about board shorts and tequila. And now I guess they teamed up to find the three of us," I said, smiling at my Uncle and Claire. "It's a total love story made for movies."
"Oh yeah, total blockbuster." Gray laughed, trying his best to keep up.
Uncle Owen and Claire took us down the alleyway, which led us to a similar area to what we had entered through Gate 5. There were people running around, some hurt, some in tears, and some just trying to help others. You could see the fear in all of their eyes.
"Lowery, I'm on my way back to you," Claire said, holding a finger to her ear to block out the noise as she talked on the phone.
"Uncle Owen, where are we going?" I asked, stepping up behind him. "Like, where are you taking us?"
"Well, ideally, since we don't want you guys to get eaten by a dinosaur, we're going to take you up to the control room. It's safer there than any place else on the island." He replied, keeping his gun tucked to his side and his voice stern.
"What about you guys?" Zach asked. "Are you gonna be there with us?"
"I wont' be, but your Aunt will. I've got to help get everything under control."
"What do you mean 'use the Raptors'?" Claire said loudly.
I looked at Uncle Owen. "Why would they use the Raptors?"
"Son of a bitch." He sneered, walking a little faster as a helicopter flew over us.
"You shouldn't say bitch." Gray said, wiping the sweat out of his eyes.
"Take the kids. Get them someplace safe." Uncle Owen said, looking at Claire.
A loud rattling noise coming from behind us, caused us to turn around. The closed, tall double doors were moving– as if something from the other side of it, was trying to force its way through the lock. "Uncle Owen? What is that?" I asked, slowly backing away from the door.
"Get to the car, now" He said, pushing us all behind him as the doors burst open. It was a mass group of people, and above them a giant Pterandon.
We ran towards the Jurassic World SUV, and struggled to get the doors open. As soon as I got mine open, I hopped inside and Gray hopped across from me, Zach behind him. We all closed our doors and Uncle Owen, immediately turned on the car, putting it into reverse. "Hurry!" I said, patting the back of his seat.
"Go faster!" Gray yelled frantically, his eyes wide.
"Damn it, drive!" Zach yelled, as Uncle Owen swerved, pulling us off into a tucked away corner where we could see the crowd of people running ahead. "This does not feel safe."
"Can we stay with you?" Gray asked, trying to control his breathing.
"I second that one, please." I gulped.
Claire rested her head against her seat and sighed. "I am never leaving you as long as you live," she said, turning towards the boys.
"Oh, no, no, no him." Gray said, pointing to Uncle Owen.
"No, him." Zach added.
"Yeah, definitely him." Gray replied, nodding his head as Uncle Owen and Claire shared a look.
"Uncle Owen..." He turned and looked at me with raised eyebrows. "They're not really going to use the Raptors, right?"
He looked at Claire before looking straight ahead of us, revving the engine. "Over my dead body."

By the time we had reached the raptor paddock, the sun was long past set and it was really dark. The entire car ride, we all sat in silence. I don't know what everyone else had on their mind, but for me personally, I couldn't stop thinking about the Raptors– Blue especially. If they were going to send them out against the Indominus, then what the hell kind of chance to they have? From all I know, they haven't even been out of containment yet. Who's to say that they're not going to go wild just at all the new surroundings?
When we came to a stop, Uncle Owen was in such a rage, he didn't even bother turning the car off, just putting it into park before storming over in the direction of the gate. "You guys stay here, okay?" Claire said, getting out of the car and following behind Owen as he was talking to some guards.
We watched intensely as the gates opened to reveal that Hoskins dude from earlier. The very same man who wanted to turn the Raptors into military weapons. "I'll be damned, that asshole." I muttered, leaning forward.
"You shouldn't say asshole." Gray said, as he and Zach leaned forward to get a better look as well.
"Sorry Gray." I apologized, as we watched the man approach Uncle Owen with a smile on his face, only to get sucker punched by him.
"Whoa!" Zach and Gray said in unison, seemingly impressed by the fact Uncle Owen had punched him.
"What was that about?" Zach asked, looking at me.
"That marshmallow of a man over there? That's Hoskins. He's from this company, InGen. They're the one's who hired my Uncle and Barry, the guy who picked me up from the park entrance. They've been training the Raptors for awhile now, basic commands and stuff." I shook my head and looked at them both. "But apparently, they want to use the Raptors as military weapons."
"That's crazy! They're prehistoric animals, you can't make them military weapons." Gray said, looking upset.
I opened my door and unbuckled my seatbelt. "Exactly," I hopped out of the car and looked at them. "Listen, I'll be right back. I need to go see the Raptors or at least see what's going on."
They both nodded in understanding and I closed the door, not even bothering to hide. I made my way over to Uncle Owen and Claire, standing beside him. "It's not a mission, it's a field test." Barry said, looking at Uncle Owen.
"This is an InGen situation now, okay? There are going to be cruise ships that show up here at first light. Everybody's gonna get off this island, and you're gonna watch a news story tomorrow about how you all saved lives. No, better yet, how your animals saved lives." Hoskins said, looking at Uncle Owen and pointing at him.
"They've never been out of containment! It's crazy!" Barry pleaded, looking at Uncle Owen in hopes he wouldn't agree.
But Uncle Owen just stood there, as if he was actually pondering whether or not to use the Raptors. "Let's move it out!" Hoskins yelled, circling his finger in the air. "This is happening, with or without you."
"Why? So you can take all the credit if this actually works?" I scoffed, bringing attention to myself as I glared at Hoskins. "Besides, who's to say that this plan of yours is even going to work? That your twisted idea of using prehistoric animals as military weapons, is even viable? That they won't turn on you at the drop of a hat?"
"Nice to see you brought your Raptor rights activist with you," Hoskins laughed before turning towards me, "why don't you go hide in that car, little girl. This is a big boys game."
I wen to step towards him, but Owen stepped between us and put a finger against Hoskins's chest. "Don't you talk to my niece that way, got it? Or I'll sick these Raptors on you."
Hoskins just laughed as he turned and walked away. Uncle Owen turned to me, his stern glare on his face. "Uncle Owen, you can't let him do this. It's wrong!"
"Hailey!" He said, his voice raised. "Go get in the car."
"But Uncle Owen–"
"Come on Hailey, let's go get Zach and Gray." Claire said, holding onto my shoulders and turning us back towards the van.
Uncle Owen and Barry followed after Hoskins through the gates and I turned to watch them. I sighed and looked at Claire to see that she was worried as well. "You don't think he's going to let them use the Raptors like that, do you?"
She bit the inside of her cheek and took a little while to answer. I think she was either contemplating the answer herself, or trying to think of a nice way to tell me that he most definitely was. "You know your Uncle, Hailey. I don't think he'd do something if he didn't see any other way around it."
I sighed and nodded as we reached the car and Zach and Gray both stepped out. "Do we get to see the Raptors?" Gray asked, practically bouncing up and down in his spot.
"He hasn't stopped talking about it since you got out of the car," Zach said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Do you think he'd let us see them before Hoskins sends them on a suicidal mission?" I asked, looking at Claire.
She looked at the three of us and sighed. "It's worth a shot, come on." She said, holding out her hand for Gray to grab and leading the way.
Zach and I stood there as we watched the two of them walkaway. "She's nice, I like her." I said, looking at him.
"Yeah, she's almost like the Aunt Claire from when we were younger." He said, starting to walk. "So, the Raptors...you really care about them, huh?"
I nodded. "Yeah, ever since my Uncle has started training with them. Whenever we'd visit, he'd let me hang around with him, from a distance, of course. I got to see how...amazing they were, and how they worked together in order to survive. And as I got older, my Uncle would let me toss food down for them and eventually, they got used to my scent. Blue's my favorite. She has been since way back."
"That's actually really cool, I can tell you're really passionate about them." He smiled, looking at me from the corner of his eyes.
We walked slowly in silence, both unsure of what to say. There was this kind of tension between us both, and I was well aware what it was. It was the kind of tension when you want to kiss someone, and you know they want to kiss you too...but you just aren't sure how to really, go about it.
"Wait," before we came up to the gates where Claire and Gray stood, I grabbed his hand. "I just want to say, thanks."
"For what?" He laughed, giving me a confused looked.
"Back there by the Mosasaur exhibit, when I was kind of just...frozen, you could have left me to figure out my own shit and save you and your brother." I looked away from my hands and gave him a smile. "But you didn't. You took me with you."
"Of course I took you with us, I wasn't going to leave you behind."
"The thought never crossed your mind that, 'hey this crazy girl is going to get all three of us killed, i'm leaving'?"
He smiled and looked down at our hands, reaching for one of mine and holding it softly. "Not even for a single second."
I looked at his hand holding mine and then back up at him with a smile. This was it, this was the moment we've both been waiting for. I could see his eyes looking from my eyes to my lips as he leaned in and my heart was practically beating out of my chest.
"Hey guys! Owen's bringing out the Raptors!" Gray yelled, causing us to scoot away from each other.
When the moment was over, it was as if we both just snapped out of it and back into the reality of what almost just happened. "We should," Zach said, motioning towards the gate.
"Yeah, let's." I nodded, clearing my throat and walking towards the gate with Zach.
