chapter 8
I had stopped by the Treasury of Enchanted Gold and had grabbed the golden amulet. I had stuffed it into my backpack. I had flown for a few hours, but had landed Dova - my dragon - after the sun began to set. I was now leaning back against Dova with a fire going. I studied the amulet. It gave off a strange source of magic I couldn't recognize.
But my attention was drawn away as Devil said something.
"Ky, I know ya wanna save boy, but we weawery should have help." Devil mewed
"Devil, if this is going to succeed, I'm going to have to do this on my own." I said
Devil muttered something and I rolled my eyes. I focused back on the amulet. The center was glowing a soft white light. But I snapped out of my trance as I heard a twig snap. I drew my daggers and put the fire out. I stood still, listening. I was out in the open, so I was like a target for hungry beasts, but I knew that I could fend them off.
There was a strong breeze as something ran close past me. I changed position quickly. Then, metal clashed against silver. I grunted as I kicked the person back. I leapt, avoiding my legs from being chopped off. I ducked and swept kicked, taking the opening and seizing the handle of their sword.
But they were just as smart and fell on top me. I grunted as I tried pushing their weight off me. But they were too heavy!
"Nice try!"
That's when I recognized them.
"Uncle Ramos! Get off me!" I shouted
"Kylie?" Uncle Ramos said
"Yes! Now get off!" I commanded
Uncle Ramos's weight lifted from me and I was able to breath again. I sat up. Uncle Ramos relit the fire.
"God Kylie! I was so scared when you had left the village without notifying me! You know you nearly scared me to death!" Ramos scolded
I didn't answer. I didn't want to. I didn't have to. A silence had settled between my Uncle Ramos and I. Then, he sighed. I had a feeling there was something he was hiding.
"Spill it." I commanded
"Spill what?" Uncle Ramos said, fake coughing.
"You're hiding something from me. I know it." I said
"Kylie, I can't tell you even if I wanted." Uncle Ramos said
"Why not? I'm related to you by blood." I said
"The order forbade me to tell you." Uncle Ramos said
"Uncle Ramos, you know as much as I do that I'm not afraid to use force to get it out of you." I said
Uncle Ramos growled under his breath.
"Fine." Uncle Ramos grunted
I waited.
"About four years ago when you and Daemon had met. When Daemon had rescued you, you two formed a special bond. One with magic." Uncle Ramos began to explain
My mind flashed back to one Golden Boy and I had shook hands. The strange small shock I had felt. It couldn't of been.
"You and Daemon can sense whether your in great trouble. That's why you always went straight to him when that mission popped up, but now, the bond seems to be harming you." Uncle Ramos said
I stayed quiet. I needed to think. I lied back, closing my eyes.

I woke to a sharp kick. My eyes flew open and I threw a dagger as anger surged through me. My uncle narrowly dodged my dagger as I had thrown it. I looked around. My uncle sat across from me, a look of worry across his face. I got up and retrieved my dagger as if nothing had happened and sat back down.
Devil was up and cleaning her fur before climbing into my backpack and finding a small package of cat food, opening it and chowing down. I shifted. Dova was awake now. He shifted, his wings spreading out as he yawned.
"Morning sister Kylie." Dova said
I nodded. Dova referred to me as sister because I'm like family, but not. She used it in pack terms like werewolves do. Devil poked her head out of my backpack. She burped.
"Xweeze me." Devil said
I sighed, throwing my backpack on before climbing onto Dova. Dova took off with my uncle on his dragon following. I wasn't happy with him and he knew it. He knew I wasn't in the mood. Hopefully, I could actually forgive him. But I looked ahead.
I had five more places till I got the items I needed. Five more till I could save Golden Boy. I prayed I would succeed in saving my only friend.
??? POV
I spied from the shadows, my plan growing. The scales were tipping and soon the girl's blood would be spilled and her soul for me to take...
