Chapter 18
Out of respect for the elves, I could not deny Sander. If I did, I would be disrespectful to him and his very village. I didn't know how else to deny him, but decided not to. Why was I dragging others into this problem of my own? I wanted to handle this on my own. I am no little girl anymore.
I could handle myself. I've fought several monsters and have conquered each mission I have been on and my uncle has always been there to scold me of what could have happened. But this mission, this problem, seems to have people I care for brought into it. I wanted to scream at them; tell them all I could handle it myself, but now I know, they will not listen to me. I stood there, staring at Sander. All I could do was nod.
I then spun on my heel and went to find Dova. Devil followed me, her paws padding softly on the dirt and grass. We both moved in silence. Dova sat in a clearing, talking with Pyro. Both their scales glittered in the sunlight, like shadow and fire. Dova sensed me approaching and looked at me.
"Something bothers you. What is it?" Dova asked
"I am dragging more people into my problem than I want. I am not a little girl anymore. I can handle myself." I said
"We know of this sister Kylie, but we must be patient." Pyro said
"I know. But I am not one for it." I answered "Who knows how long till I meet in battle with my best friend."
"Fate is an unfortunate thing. But none the less, important for a future." Pyro said
"But..." I began
Pyro and Dova cut me off.
"There is no arguing of this sister Kylie. For their is no telling of what is to come." Dova said
"And even though both Dova and I are wise and powerful, we wait to see what path fate will bring us down." Pyro said
"For we could meet our ends in a battle or as time ages us." Dova said
"And you could meet your end as well if you do not step carefully." Pyro said
I huffed. I knew what they were saying was to be true, but why should I have to suffer this waiting. I cannot wait too long. These dragons and their wisdom from over time was getting tiring. But I had to listen.
"You should listen to them Kylie." Devil said, her voice sounded more mature.
I looked at her. She was slightly larger and looked older. Her red fur glistening in the sun like blood. The kitten I knew was growing to be older, more mature. Soon I would be scolded by my own pet. I growled and sat down.
I felt annoyed by all this. I wanted to continue. I needed to continue. So far I have only retrieved three items! I took them out of my backpack. The goblet, the halo and the amulet.
Each one precious to helping Golden boy. Each one precious to save my friend. I looked down and closed my eyes, a sure of anger filled me and my eyes snapped open, I shook my head.
"Kylie!" Dova's voice rang out, my ears ringing and my vision blurry.
I realized I was on the ground. It was golden boy, he was in a fit of rage. I wanted to help him. My breathing was heavy and my body sent spasms.
"Pyro, go find Romos!" Dova snapped
I was unable to move, beads of sweat rolled down my face. It was as if something was causing me great pain and my body had no control. I lied frozen on the ground, screams and fighting filled my head as I was looking through Golden Boy's eyes. Suddenly, my vision shut down and I was swallowed in darkness.
...
I woke to the sound of somebody calling my name. It sounded distant in my ears, but it grew closer and louder as I came back into consciousness. My head pounded, feeling like a mental hammer striking my mind repeatedly with a ferociousness that would not diminish. I touched a hand gingerly to my forehead. It burned like a hot fire. I quickly withdrew my hand.
"Kylie, are you OK?" Uncle Ramos said worriedly
I nodded.
"I'll be fine." I said, sitting up.
I didn't feel sick or anything. I just felt odd. My head hurt and my skin burned. What happened to me? My bond with Golden boy is getting weaker and hurting me even more than before. We had to go.
I leapt to my feet and got onto Dova's back.
"Uncle Ramos, we need to get moving now." I said as Devil leaped into my backpack.
"No, not in your condition." Uncle Ramos said
"I don't care! I have a friend that is losing his sanity because of me! Now get your as...butt on your dragon and let's get going!" I snapped
Uncle Ramos stood stern.
"Kylie, you know I care about you and want to keep you alive...."
I zoned out as Uncle Ramos began scolding me. I sighed as he finished five minutes later. I raised and eyebrow.
"Finished?" I said
Uncle Ramos sighed and nodded. He got on Pyro. Sander whistled and a brown dragon, the color of mud, circled overhead. It was twice the size of Dova. It circled one last time before landing in the center of the village. It had large pointy spikes on its head and large talons.
Its claws looked thick as stone and sharp as a sword. Its neck was short and thick. The maw of the dragon looked big enough to bite a full grown cow in half. It was an impressive looking dragon. Sander climbed upon it after greeting it. It growled in greeting.
Dova and Pyro lowered their heads in greeting. Sander's dragon did the same.
"Let's go." I said
The three of us took to the skies, heading towards the next location of the next object. My mind swirling about what had happened when I heard the screaming and Golden boy's voice echoing in my head.
