Chapter Three
Joel's POV
Jenna came downstairs, happier than I'd seen her. Kaia had already eaten, and she was headed for work, and Moriah and Becca were still asleep, so it was just the two of us.
"Morning, Jen. Sleep well?" She nodded, grabbing an uneaten piece of bacon off my plate, and shoved half of it in her mouth.
"Yep. I'm hungry. Had a nice dream, too. Hey dad, what was my mom's favorite flower?" I flipped a couple pancakes, thinking.
Umm....Roses. She carried a bouquet of them at her wedding. She loved them, but I never knew why. Why?" She shrugged.
"I was thinking that I could take some to her, well, you know." I chuckled. She didn't like saying the word grave.
"I think I could take you to do that, umm..maybe today? We'll have to see what Moriah needs me to do today, okay?" She nodded, biting off the end of another piece of bacon.
"And you have practice today, remember? First game is in two weeks." She nodded.
"That's what I forgot about! Snap! Does mom remember?" I nodded
"Yeah. She's the one who reminded me about it." We laughed, and she got more pancakes.
"Hey, dad? Do you believe in guardian angels?" I put the last of the batch on the table, and I sat down with her.
"Yes, I do. Why are you asking?" She shrugged.
"Just curious. You're coming to the game, right?" I nodded.
"Yeah. Your mom has a meeting that day, sadly." She nodded.
"At least it's not the last game of the season or a championship game. She can come to other games. Missing one won't make me hate her." We laughed, and turned the radio on. A song by Jamie Grace started, Come to Me. It was one of Amber's favourite songs. She had sung it with Jamie at a Winter Jam performance one year. I nearly started crying, but wiped away the tears. A couple hours later, I took her to practice, and decided to stay. I watched them, and then I saw Jenna dunk the ball. She was grinning, but she came down wrong, and I heard a snapping sound. Next thing I knew, she was on the ground, sobbing, and her leg was twisted at a very bad angle. Her coach, Leigh Baker, called an ambulance, and we headed there. Her leg gave out when she dropped, and she landed wrong. I called Moriah while we were on the way there, and she said she'd meet us there. The Doctor did an x-ray, and I sat there with her, waiting for the doctor to come back with the x-ray pictures. She came in, a grim look on her face.
"Well, the leg is indeed broken. But, aside from the break, we have a problem. You said her leg gives out at random times?" I nodded.
"We discovered why. She has several tumors in the leg, and they've grown too much. They've spread throughout the lower leg, and the best option would be to remove her leg right below the leg." I swallowed.
"Okay. I'll discuss this with her and my wife, and we'll give you an answer by this evening." She nodded, and left. Jenna swallowed, and I hugged her. As I hugged her, the tears spilled over for both of us. This was just so hard. How were we going to do this, and for a second time? We just had to trust that God knew what he was doing.
Author's note- Hello! Sorry it took so stinking long for me to get this filler up. Life has been an obstacle course, and I'm just trying to keep my head above water. I'll try to update soon. Love you guys! Plz vote and comment! :)
