Ch. 16: Talk (Pt. 1)
As I walked through the school halls, I was reminded of why I didn't want any friends.
It wasn't anything against them. It was mostly because I liked my solitude. I got to think about whatever I wanted, like... like Percy. And no one would tug at my heart strings while I was doing it.
With Percy on my mind, I'd almost forgotten about hanging out with Will until I saw him waiting for me at the end of the hallway. Classes were over. I took a deep breath, This is it. This is when I make the most regretful decision of my entire life.
With anxiety running through my veins, I walked up to him and nodded, "Let's go."
My house was, thankfully, in walking distance from the school building. I hadn't even started trying to get my driver's license, so I'm glad I didn't have to worry about transportation. I love my sister, but it'd be a hassle for her to drive me back and forth from campus, considering she lived somewhere else.
I was silent the walk there. Will looked like all he wanted to do was spark conversation, but I couldn't handle it. Maybe he realized. Maybe he just didn't care. Maybe he didn't realize at all. Perhaps he always walked quietly unless someone prodded him.
Once we got to my place, I skipped right to my room, dragging him past the empty living room and barren-walled hallway.
I sat down at my bed and sighed, kicking my shoes off and not caring where in my room they landed. Will gently pulled his boots off and sat them by the door before sitting down.
"This is nice!" he complimented, looking around at my posters. The room was pretty vacant besides them, just a desk, a bed, and a bean chair on the floor. There was a rug too, but it was so old and raggedy.
"Thanks," I mumble, looking down at my knees.
I wasn't sure what to say. Maybe I would let him start? But I was the one that invited him, would that be rude?
Before I could open my mouth, Will started anyways, "Did you want to talk about something?"
