4) Hammered
Over an hour has gone by with no criminal activity reported over the police scanner. Ned was kind of just messing with Lego Star Wars figures as he waited for something to happen. Occasionally, Peter would start up a conversation to keep them busy or to just pass the time, but they were determined to get something done. Even if it meant staying up until Ned's parents came in telling him to stop scrolling in front of a bright screen in the darkness of his bedroom.
**ATTENTION ALL UNITS IN THE CORONA/ELMHURST AREA: WE JUST HAD A NOISE COMPLAINT AROUND THE BLOCK OF 90TH AND CONWAY. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND REPORT**
Ned perked his head up at the sound of something finally sounding suspicious. He readjusted the headset and mic he had on and sat back upright to find the location on a map.
"Peter, we just got a noise complaint" his voice carried over the coms, "I'm sending you the address."
"Great, I'll check it out" Peter confirmed and started swinging.

The swing over didn't take too long, only about 10 minutes for Peter to arrive at the scene. He perched himself on a light pole overlooking the intersection of the streets the police had reported. Peter looked up the streets and noticed a lone police cruiser parked on one of the darker streets. Peter swung over to where he was parked, and soon understood why there was a noise complaint.
"Hey Ned, there's a party going on at one of the houses" Peter reported calmly to his friend.
"Oh, well that makes sense" Ned replied, "people can be obnoxiously loud ."
"Yeah, I'm gonna take a quick look to make sure everything's good." He spun a web across the street to attach to the roof and pulled himself over. He landed on the roof, viewing over the backyard. He saw that a majority of the guests were teenagers, all bouncing in place as the DJ played a song. Some were happily playing or getting all touchy in the pool that took up most of the yard. The colorful spotlights swayed along with the music, their light reflecting off the waves in the pool and casting a shimmering display over the rambunctious teens. The DJ gave a "woot woot", which caught Peter's attention, as it belonged to a certain brown-skinned boy with long black hair whom was fashioned in a sportscoat.
Peter snorted in disbelief, as he put the pieces together and figured out who's party it was. "Dude, this is Flash's house" he said to Ned, and even he had to snort at that fact. "Oh, that's pretty typical of him. He's always trying to get attention."
"He's acting like a complete idiot down there" Peter added, as Flash stumbled around his equipment and tried to make a move on some pretty girls. Only ending up tripping over himself. "He's so drunk. I almost want to go down there just to prevent him from embarrassing himself."
"I would totally do that, but I don't think you should?" Ned replied. "He's got the biggest fan-crush on you now, and if you make an appearance, he'll be bragging constantly about how Spider-Man came to his party."
"Yeah..." Peter groaned, using his arms and legs to shift himself across the roof, "I guess you'r- right." Peter's attention was stolen away from Flash for a split second, as he looked upon a sight that really peaked his interest.
In the corner of the yard, was a large tent that was covered on all sides. One would assume it was normal, but Peter took notice when two individuals walked out with a screen of mist leaking from the tent as they exited. One of the individuals had a pink long sleeve shirt and white jeans on. Her blonde hair was straight with a simple black headband to keep it from covering her dazzling eyes and bright smile. Peter knew this was undoubtedly their school's number one news reporter, Betty Brant.
"What the hell?" he commented. "What? What's going on?" Ned said in his earpiece.
"Betty just came out of this huge tent with a strange guy."
"You mean like creeper strange, or goofy strange?" Ned inquired, trying to get some clarity of what his super friend meant.
Peter didn't really know how to explain it, but he felt like the guy Betty was conversing with was strangely familiar. He recognized the jet-black hair that covered the top of his head. His body was stumpy and stout, just inching out Betty in height comparison. He had a navy-blue shirt on with thin maroon lines going up and down. His face was a bit scarred and disfigured, which made it more difficult for Peter to recall where he might have seen him.
"No. Strange like I might have crossed paths with him while in costume."
"Whoa, that's crazy" Ned responded, a bit nervous about a few thoughts that went on in his head. "What are you gonna do?"
At that moment, Betty and her strange friend had finished their conversation and Betty took her leave with a smile. The guy stood watching her leave and continued about his business around the pool area. "He and Betty just separated" Peter whispered loudly for Ned to hear. "I'm gonna keep an eye on him and see what else he does."
"Be careful. And make sure no one sees you" Ned said urgently, and Peter assured him that he would do so. Only few minutes went by and the suspicious fellow had made his way around the perimeter of the pool, making small talk with everyone he greeted. His back was facing Peter, so he leaped over to a nearby light pole to get a better view point to see if anything happened during the conversation.
At one instance, it appeared that the boy had pulled something small from his back pocket and handed it to a group of friends by the edge of pool. Peter squinted, puzzled by what this object was, only to see that one member of the group handed him some cash for the small item.
"Dude, I think he's selling drugs" he said quietly.
"How can you tell?" Ned asked. "Cause' if he is, he's doing it illegally by knowingly selling to minors."
"I know, Ned" Peter replied, "but I can't confirm it without..." Suddenly, he looked down to see Betty again. Only this time she was leaning back in a lawn chair taking a swig of something that was rolled up tightly in a piece of paper. She held her breath for a few seconds before finally exhaling a cloud of the burning substance she had just taken. She relaxed back into her chair contently as she treasured this moment of what felt like peace to her and continued to smoke her drug.
"Yup, he's selling drugs" Peter confirmed to Ned. "Betty's one of his customers and is currently smoking whatever he gave her." He looked back up to where the strange guy was by the pool and noticed him walking toward the gate in the back of the yard. "He's leaving out the back. I'm gonna stop him." Peter leaped high in the air, trying to keep himself out of view of the many party-goers below. He shot a pair of webs to pull himself to another light pole that bordered the yard and the alley on the other side of the fence. From there, he could see the strange guy walking toward a large black van with countless crates of what he assumed were more drugs laid out on the ground behind the van. Additionally, an adult man was leaning against the van, probably waiting for his partner, who Peter assumed was the strange guy he had been keeping an eye on.
The man was a bit large, husky you might say. His eyes were a bit wide with a pair of glasses, he wore a charcoal grey flannel shirt, and ginger hair that topped his head and most of his lower jaw. He pushed himself off the car at the sight of his black-haired partner and approached him.
"How'd we do, Kev?" the large man asked a bit loudly.
"Shhh" Peter over heard his target, "Keep it down, you big idiot." He then pulled out all the cash he had received during the night. "We did pretty good, this should hopefully make the boss happy."
"Ha, it better. He's been pushing us to our limit ever since Fisk got involved" the larger man scornfully said, seeing the fan of bills in his partners hands. "Doesn't matter, man" replied his partner, "the harder we work, the more we sell. Which means a larger cut from the boss." He then greedily started fidgeting through the bills in his hands and smelling the unique smell they gave off.
"Yeah, yeah..." the large man said and opened the back of the van to start loading the crates inside. "Now help me load up."
Peter had heard enough, and quickly webbed the two of them from behind. "That's alright, boys" he said comically. The webbing attached to their backs, causing them to turn to see who was there. "OH C'MON!" Kevin shouted in agony as Peter pulled them hard backward a few feet away from their supply. They grunted and groaned as they hit the ground and turned over to get back up. Peter flipped into the air and landed between them and the crates.
"I'm sure the police will take it the way it is" Peter finished his quip.
"AGAIN WITH YOU!" Kevin shouted to the web-slinger whilst laying on the ground.
"Yup, me again. Wait... remind me where I've seen you" Peter said curiously.
"Maybe you should ask your cat-lady friend! That way I can find her and end all nine of her lives for what she did to me" Kevin raged as he struggled to stand up. At this, Peter was finally able to make a connection.
"Oh right, at the park with the pizza" Peter said, "you were J-Mac's friend." He looked up and down the stumpy young adult, seeing what had become of him. He couldn't believe this was the same person that had been helping J-Mac and Tombstone. He didn't know why he looked so messed up, maybe the cat-lady he was referring to, Felicia, had really done some work on him to make him want her dead. It was as if his head was thicker, and quite bluntly, flatter. And based on the scarring that Peter observed on his head and face, it looked like some strange and experimental surgery was probably needed to make him functional.
Suddenly, Kevin's partner pulled himself up and stood up next to the young crook. Peter shifted his attention to him and asked, "Who's your new friend?"
The large bearded man sighed aggressively. "Just the guy telling you to go play hero somewhere else, or you're gonna regret it." He reached into the font left pocket of his shirt and pulled out a small glass tablet or flask of some kind. The glass was a bit foggy from the cloudy substance that was contained within it. He took both his hands and gripped the ends of the glass and broke it in half, releasing the substance. A chard of glass graced his skin, making a small cut and he lowered his nose to heavily sniff the cloudy drug. He inhaled the drug until his chest couldn't expand any further.
He growled and shrieked at the sensation building inside him and charged at the young wall-crawler. He staggered along at first, but it seemed like he was becoming more focused and versatile in his movement. He started to gain speed, too rapidly for Peter to react appropriately. The man swiftly lunged his fist to send Spider-Man flying back toward the car, hitting the back doors.
The man continued to charge and pinned him against the car. He prepares to deliver a brutal blow to the head, but Peter is able to free his right arm from the thug's grip. Peter webs him in the face, allowing him some room to escape by hopping over his opponent. He lands facing the webbed brute, ready to web the rest of him to the car by kicking him into it. However, a large flat force drove into his back, sending him into the already fumbling brute he had meant to disable.
"What the hell... was that?" Peter anguished as he pushed himself off the large brute laying web-faced on the ground.
"Just an improvement from that crazy surgery" Peter heard Kevin say as he turned over to see face him. Kevin was standing over him, knocking his knuckles on the rim of his head. A soft clanging sound was heard when ever his hand made contact, as if there was something metal in his head.
"Are you sure you're not secretly a prototype Terminator?" Peter asked humorously. Kevin smirked a bit, finding the idea of him being compared to a Terminator was a bit amusing. He reached both hands down to grab the young hero, but Peter pushed them out the way. He got to his feet and the two began to duke it out. Peter slinging webs to disable him momentary and bouncing around to dodge every punch or head-butt Kevin tried to deliver.
Meanwhile, the larger man had managed to pull the webbing off his face and started to load the crates of drugs into the back of the van as quickly as he could. Once he was finished, he hurried to the driver's seat and started the engine.
"Hey! Wait for me!" Kevin shouted to his partner. "You're on your own, kid" was the reply he received as the front door slammed. The van was put in drive and the engine revved as the vehicle moved forward.
Oh no you don't, Peter thought as he webbed the back bumper of the car and pulled with all his might. It was soon a tug of war between human-spider and a large van of 200 horsepower, and surprisingly, it was pretty even. So even, that Kevin took the opportunity to race up to the passenger door and hop inside. The tires slipped and marked up the old asphalt alleyway, making a screeching sound that was sure to catch someone's attention. And it would have, if only a self-obsessed brown-skinned boy hadn't thrown a loud, rambunctious party. Speaking of which...
A vain, boisterous voice came from the top of the Flash's house. Peter, still trying to keep the van from leaving, turned his head toward the voice. He saw a shirtless Flash with a brown glass bottle in his hand calling down to his party guests from the roof, "Who WAnTs to sEE ME Jump!" The crowd cheers at his stupid, alcohol-induced idea, and Peter blood runs cold. He looks to where Flash could land and assumes that the pool is the intended landing zone. But based on how wasted he looked just standing on the roof, he knew he could easily stumble and fall in the wrong way. And if that didn't happen, he wasn't in any condition to judge the right way to jump.
Damnit, Flash!
Peter lets go of his web and runs into the yard. The van's screeching dies down as the tires are finally able to jolt the vehicle forward and in a hurry. "Activate Reconnaissance Drone" Peter shouted out loud, and his little robotic spider drone came to life. "Ned, take control of Droney and follow that van. We can't lose it."
"On it" Ned answered over the com and soon enough sent the drone zooming after the van.
Flash jumped from his spot on the roof, and the whole crowd cheered in a mixture of reactions. Some "aweing", some "oohing", and some shrieking in horror that they might witness something terribly painful. Peter shoved people out of the way as fast as he could until he came to the far end of the pool. He leaped hard and fired a web from each of his wrists. They attached to the side of the house and Peter pulled on them to increase his speed to get to Flash.
As Flash fell, Peter could see that his expression had changed from prideful and fun to complete fear and regret. He flailed is arms and legs as he descended, and his body torqued to where his head would be to the first to make impact.
Closing in fast, Peter made a quick move to shoot a web to swing from the house. He swung down and caught Flash under his belly, only inches away from hitting the ground and killing him. They continued swinging onto the porch, flying toward the wall for an impact. Peter used their momentum to do a walking flip off the wall, only to end with them landing safely on the wood floor of the covered porch.
The party-going teens all cheered at the heroic actions of their local web-slinger, and immediately pulled out their phones in the hopes of capturing the moment. Peter rose Flash to an upright position, only for him to lean in an unbalanced way. When his thinking and functions cleared for the moment, he finally made out the image of Spider-man standing in front of him and remembering what had just happened.
"Whoa, Spider-Man!!" he suddenly burst into excitement, "It's you! You're Spider-Man! You just saved me, at my party! Spider-Man's at my party!"
Peter rolled his eyes, though Flash couldn't see it due to the mask, but his influenced enthusiasm would have done that anyway. "Yeah, sure dude. I'm at your party and it's been fun saving our tail, but I've gotta get going." He started to turn as he prepared to go after the van.
"Wait!" Flash said, grabbing his shoulder, "you mind taking a selfie with me?"
"Maybe next time, gotta fly" was what Peter said to him before thwipping a web and launching himself into the air. "Don't drink and drive!" he shouted to the crowd below as he left, everyone watching him. And as he left, a bit of silence came over the yard, as if the energy had left with the red and blue hero.
"YO, SPIDER-MAN CAME TO MY PARTY! HOW COOL IS THAT!?!" Flash cheered out, and the whole mass of people shouted in excitement, giving the party the energy it needed to continue.
"Ugh, he's never gonna let anyone forget this" Peter groaned to himself.

A/N- Finally, a new chapter for you guys. Sorry, I made you wait so long, but I needed to get a few things done. I hope you will understand. I'm just glad I was able to get this chapter out, and I hope you all enjoyed it.
Do you guys remember Kevin at all from the first book? Well, I'm continuing his story, and he's now a lackey for another person with vision and power. And based on the title of the chapter, I hope you can guess what character I've made him. His partner will also be a big villain going forward.
I've also had a change in focus on certain characters so I'm changing the the story cover to fit the right characters. Here's the updated cover and it will be the usual starting next week.
Again, I hope everyone enjoyed the chapter. Leave a vote if you did, and don't forget to express your thoughts in the comments.
New chapter in two weeks, back to the usual updating schedule. Until next time, BYE!!!
