Day 2
— Day Two
I wake up with a start, once again. I hastily pick up my water bottle from my nightstand and take a long sip. Just another dream, Y/N.
I sit up, yearning for an energy drink. I throw myself out of bed to get up and water my parsnips. Tiny leaves bloom from the soil, barely noticeable. Plants grow faster than I thought they do...
After I finish tending to the farm, I rush inside to change into something nicer.
I find a pair of red shorts, white dress shirt, and tan cardigan that I throw together. I make sure to brush out my hair and style it, as well as spray flowery perfume.
I haven't gotten dressed up for a girl in a while... er, I just want to be like her.
I begin to head over to Pelican town, by my mailbox catches my eye.
"Just returned from a fishing trip. Meet me at the docks — Willy." Fishing? Veronica hated fishing... I wonder what Haley thinks about it?
Another letter hides in the mailbox however, and I pull of the seal.
"My sister does weird things with her plants. I thought if I sent you some rose seeds, you could send me some when they're done growing. They're pretty, just like me. — Haley"
A bag of rose seeds was attached to the letter. I quickly scramble to plant them next to the rest of my crops, setting up the trellis as fast as I can.
I barely avoid getting dirt on my outfit, but I'm excited to see this grow. I'll have to make sure to trim all the thorns before I give them to Haley.
I make my way into Pelican Town, intent on exploring today. I at least have to see the beach.
I look at my phone, it's eight AM... watering my crops took that long? Eugh.
I wander around the town for a bit, when I catch a man tossing a gridball outside (presumably) his house.
I walk up, intent on asking where the beach is.
His eye catches mine, and he waves. "Hey, you're the new girl, huh?"
"Um. Y-yeah. My name is Y/N. I was wondering—"
"My name is Alex. I think we're gonna get along great." He interrupts me without a second thought, ticking me off.
"Uh, do you know where the beach is? I wanted to check it out."
"The beach? Just down south from here. It's a great place to hangout and soak up some rays." He nods. He's... really sure of himself.
"Y-yeah. Just wanted to look around town more."
"Well, see you around, farm girl." He waves, and goes back to practicing with his gridball.
I turn around swiftly, hoping he won't see my clenched jaw and twitching eye. Douche.
I storm my way down to the beach, trying to get my mood back up.
... the beach was alright. That's all I really have to say about it. But, Haley likes it, so I'll probably spend most of my time here.
Out of curiosity, I make my way down the docks, trying not to be paranoid about the creaking of old wood with each step. I catch an older man in an even older looking hat, smoking on the edge of the docks next to a fishing shack.
"Ah.. ahoy there lass. Nice to see young folk moving in town." He exhales a small cloud of smoke. "Got something for you. Recently upgraded my rod, and figured you could have the old one. It'd be nice to spread the art o' fishing' to the next generation." He picks up a rod leaning on the side of the hut, and hands it to me.
"I-I'll try it sometime. My name is Y/N. Um, you didn't.. mention yours?"
"Oh. Willy, lass. If you ever need bait or tackle, you should come down to my shop. I'm open on weekdays." He snuffs out his cigarette and picks up his own rod, casting it in the water.
'Art o' fishin''? I'll have to try it. I wonder if Haley likes any fish....
"Ay! Y/N!" Abigail yells at me as I'm walking in town square. She runs up to me with a smile on her face. "Hello to you, my adopted introvert."
"Adopted... introvert?" I tilt my head.
"Ah, well, Sophia wormed her way into my heart when we were younger and Sam has claim over Seb, so I wanted an introvert of my own."
"I-I don't know those people."
"You should come to our Dungeons and Dragons group tomorrow! Every Wednesday, around noon, my friends and I get together for D&D."
"I.. haven't played before."
"Eh? It's like... a tabletop RPG, with friends. I'll help you make a character and everything! Just sit through one session and tell me how you feel. Please?" She flutters her eyelashes, and I can't help but say yes.
I sigh. "Alright, alright. I-I can go. Who are your friends, exactly?"
"Sebastian, Sam, and Sophia." She smiles.
"I, um, still don't know any of them."
"Ah. Who have you met in town so far, then?" Abigail asks.
"Uhm. Haley, you, your mother, Alex, Willy, and Haley."
"You... you said Haley twice?"
"I like Haley."
"H-Haley? She.. can be a little rude. And self-centered. You should be careful around her, I know we've just met, but don't get your heart hurt."
"What? I wouldn't date a girl! Never ever." I cross my arms in an 'X' shape. Even if Haley is really pretty.
She looks me up and down in suspicion. "... Alright. Don't forget, tomorrow around noon! I'll come drag you over if you forget."
I nod, and slowly inch myself away.
"Adios, Y/N! Have fun on your farm." She waves, and continues up the path to the mountains. "Oh! We're meeting at Seb's house! Or Robin's—slash—carpenter's house." She turns around and yells down from atop the stairs.
I laugh lightly, and wave bye to her. I've never tried D&D before, it might be fun.
I continue back to my farm, only to find Haley at the bus stop with a bunch of shopping bags. She sighs. "Ah.. I wish Alex was here to help me carry all of this. I did have a good shopping spree, though. Gotta keep up on all the latest trends."
I rush over as soon as I hear her complain about the amount of bags. "Hi, Haley!"
"Oh. Hey. Nice make-up. Wait, are you even wearing any?"
SHIT. I forgot to do my make-up! Veronica would have ignored me the whole day if I did that. "Ah, I forgot, sorry."
She raises her eyebrow. "Why are you apologizing? Anyways, I went on a shopping spree. Have to keep up on all the trends."
"D-do you need help with your bags? I don't mind helping you." I smile.
"Please do!" She picks up a few bags, but leaves a little over half for me. I quickly pick them all up.
"I can carry a few more, if you need."
"I don't need that much help. I'm not a defenseless girl." She rolls her eyes.
"Oh! Y-yeah, of course, I just didn't want you to get calluses on your hands or anything."
She thinks for a second. "That is a potential worry, but I have a good skincare routine, so I should be fine."
I help her bring all the bags down to her house, setting them inside her living room. Her sister must do most of the decorating, because it's more mellow than I thought it'd be.
She lets out a sigh of relief as she puts the bags down. "Er... thank you, Y/N. For your help."
"It's no problem! Anything you need, just ask me! I'll always help you." I smile.
"Alex normally helps me, but, if he's busy, I'll ask you." She says, already unpacking her clothes from her bags. "Um, you can leave now."
"Oh! Yeah. Bye, Haley." I leave the house silently.
When I walk out the door, I'm surprised to see a man with a super saiyan haircut trying to do kick-flips.
I watch for a moment, as he repeatedly tries and fails to do a kick flip. I don't remember them being that difficult...
He eventually falls on the ground, and looks up at me from the floor. "So... how's the weather up there?"
"W-warm?" I tilt my head.
He stands up and brushes down his jeans. "Sorry about that, I'm Sam. Good to meet you, man— er, girl."
"Um, what's up with your hair? A-are you cosplaying Goku? Or Vegeta?"
He groans. "You're the third person whose said that, I swear.. it's supposed to be a rocker haircut, y'know! Like, old school."
"O-oh, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to be mean or anything—"
"Nah, it's alright, bud! It's all in good fun, right?" He laughs.
I breathe a sigh of relief. "Thank goodness. U-um, are you Abigail's friend?"
"Abby? Why're you asking 'bout her?"
"S-she invited me to her friends D&D game, and, um, I don't know anyone besides her." I look away shyly.
He gasps in recognition. "Oh, you're Y/N, aren't you? Abby said she adopted an introvert!"
I feel my face heat up. "Um... yeah, I, um, yeah."
"Abigail's been looking for a girl friend for a long time, she would keep coming to me with her girl problems... that I don't understand."
"Isn't... that what friends do?" I tilt my head.
He shrugs. "I don't want to give Abby bad advice. Or make her feel misunderstood. She gets that enough from her dad."
"I-is he that bad? I haven't met him.."
"Pierre? Nah, he just doesn't understand how Abby wants to live her life. He wants her— ah, I shouldn't tell you that, Abby should,"
I nod. "How a-are your kick flips going?"
"I swear I managed to do one before! I haven't been able to do it again!"
"Could I try?" I ask.
"Oh, go ahead. But be warned, it's really difficult and you can get yourself hurt—"
I then proceeded to do a kick flip my first try.
"H-HOW— how did you do that?! You absolutely madman!" Sam stands in surprise before laughing.
"I had a friend who liked guys who could skate. So I learned to impress her." I shrugged, and handed him back his skateboard.
"Oh. Are you... like?" He holds his hand up like he's showing me his nails.
"Eh? Like.. what?"
"Fruity? Lesbian?"
"N-NO!" I blush furiously. "I am not attracted to girls nor will I ever be, thank you. I am a completely normal heterosexual girl."
He laughs again. "So, Abby said you're joining us in D&D?"
"Y-yeah. I'm pretty sure if I don't go she'll find me in the middle of the night and take me to a crypt..."
"Did she even show you how to make a character?"
"Er, no. She must 'be forgotten."
"Here, gimme your number. I'll send you a website that will help you make a character."
I shyly hand him my phone as he types my number in— his contact name set to... 'Cool Dude 😎'.
"Um, thank you. I'll figure out a character to play today."
"No problem! Ooh, I'm hungry. See you later!" He picks up his skateboard and heads into his house, next to Haley's.
That was an abrupt end to a conversation... I'll head home for the day. I'm tired out, too many people.
I drag myself home and start working on my character for D&D. So many options.. this makes me want to play a lot..
Haley gets up from bed, heading to her vanity to fix her make-up. She wipes down her face and fixes her strewn hair.
Alex gets up and stretches. "Thanks, Haley, that was just what I needed."
"No problem. Just don't finish so quick next time." Haley jokes.
"Hey!" Alex snaps, before collecting himself. "Sorry, Haley."
Haley frowns. "It's alright. I get it, I've been trying to tone down my attitude around you, sorry."
Alex nods, and picks up his varsity jacket from the floor.
"Hey, what do you make of Y/N?" Haley asks while brushing out her hair.
"Y/N? The hot farmer chick?"
"Yeah. What do you think about her?"
"I mean, she's pretty. She was asking about the beach earlier today. What, you jealous?"
Haley laughs. "No, I just... it's weird. I feel... weirdly drawn to her. I don't really understand it."
Alex pauses. "I.. I do, too. That's weird."
"Yeah. Really weird." She agrees.
They both sit in silence for a moment, before both shrugging it off.
