ANNA'S JOURNEY
Slamming down my bag on the seat, I slumped down on it, letting my limbs loose.
As train started moving, I got up to get my bottle. Suddenly I found something peeking out from the gap between two seats..
It was a old, worn out journal.
I searched for the name of the writer.
And on one corner was scribbled, 'ANNA TODD'
With the intention of returning it to it's rightful owner, I opened the book and saw neat writing filled pages inside.
The first page attracted me.
I felt bad for her.
And then the next entry...
Now that was definitely cute. She was falling for her doctor.
The next few entries were all about him, how he walks, greets and talks, and about her days in hospital.
My eyes got glued to one particular page.
I almost smiled seeing her childlike fantasies.
Flipping through the pages finally I found her relief on getting discharged and something more interesting than that.
I just hoped that they would be happy. But then the entries were all romantic so I skipped over them, when suddenly the entries stopped abruptly, though half of the diary was still left.
My heart skipped a beat. I hadn't expected this. I so wanted to know what destiny had in store.
Would she forgive him? Would they separate after such a passionate love?
But how could I know?
I searched through the pages for her bio and found an address in Birmingham.
I searched Google for the exact place and made up my crazy mind to track her down.
I got down from the train in Birmingham, hired a taxi and directed the driver towards the address.
With my heart thumping, I knocked on the door, straightening my hair and skirt, trying my best not to freak out.
A lady in her late forties, with brown eyes and greying black hairs opened the door, staring enquiringly at me.
"Umm, does Ms Anna Todd live here?" I fidgeted with my fingers.
"I'm Anna, but I don't..."
"It's okay," I interrupted, holding out the journal "I came to return this."
"Oh girl! You shouldn't have. Please do come in," she smiled.
I followed her into her tastefully decorated living room.
"I'm going to get coffee," she said.
"Wait," I said, directly diving into the question, "If you don't mind my being too nosey, is he still with you? Like your name is Anna Todd."
"No, no," she protested, "It was by chance that our names matched. I married James Laurier."
"Oh okay, so did you two actually break up? Did you two fight over that silly thing? A compromise would have definitely worked," I asked.
"We made a compromise. I was supposed to go once my Visa would be prepared. I was ready to leave behind everything, in spite of what I had thought earlier," her eyes were glassy.
"Then?"
"That plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean. Even his body was not retrieved," she smiled grimly.
I froze.
500 words completed.
