Part IX
Gabe stared at Dean, but he wasn't very much better than Sam. His sight was nearly going through Dean, somehow Dean was right, he didn't know how it was losing a daughter, he never had been a father, he hadn't started a family. When he focused his sight again on his brother, he could see how broken he really was. The shoulders were settled down, his back a little bit flexed, he suddenly looked so incredibly tired like someone was taking his whole vitality at once. In front of Sam and Gabe a broken man was sitting, a broken Dean Winchester.
The arms on his knees, crouched down in a corner and the head burrowed into his arms. Never in his life he had felt so miserable, he cried and cried, he didn't care what Gabe and Sam thought of him, he simply wanted to let it go. The burning pains in his chest, the blaze which ran wavy through his blood vessels and only left a burning dragging pain.
Sam had stood up, a single moment he thought to sit next to his brother, but then he saw Gabriel nodding encouragingly. He walked up to Dean, his hand laid on the door handle and pulled it down. With little, but quick steps Sam disappeared in the twilight. The archangel looked after the man. "This I actually haven't expected", Gabe mumbled and sat down next to Dean on the ground. The older Winchester still stared to the open door his last family member had gone through. "Sammy!" Dean's voice was soft and brittle.
"Sammy!" Dean looked after his brother, simply going through the door. The first time Sam turned away from him. "You've killed her, she was innocent", saying these words he had gone at that time, simply abandoning him in that bleakly motel and disappeared. Dean hadn't heard from him for 3 months, he simply disappeared not wanting to do anything with his brother anymore.
Dean had met him months later again at a chase, Sam had been cool and disallowed and had hardly spoken to him, but Dean took him to the side and looked into his eyes. "I know you're thinking she was innocent but she was a monster, Sam. I wanted to protect the people, one day she would have started to kill, one day the urge would be to strong. You heard her saying that it feels like being a drowning man in drinkwater", Sam looked into the moos green eyes attending him his whole life and shook his head. "You lied to me, Dean, you said, you had done what had to be done, but it wasn't nessesary, otherwise why you should have let her son going away? He was a werewolf like she was, but you let him go. Recognize it, you wanted to kill her, you wanted to kill her because she told you the truth about Cass." Dean stopped. "No." His voice broke. "But I can't do anything to a child, Sammy, I'm a hunter and not a heartless monster." He turned away and Sam laughed. "Ah ok, a hunter, you're a revenger, Dean. We're all revengers and murderer, it happened worser things to us and so we sanctify the hunt to other things. But we can choose what we hunt!" Sam turned to his brother again and tipped his chest. "You had the choice of trusting her but you decided against. You decided to kill her, because she said to you Cass wouldn't love you! Accept it, Dean, Castiel isn't up to such feelings, he is an angel and no human. He's like a walking ice block!" "No, that's not true. It doesn't matter to me, why I should care about?!", Dean shouted louder and the passerby turned to the brothers. "Because you love him, Dean!" "That's not true." Perhaps the worst and biggest lie, Dean ever spoke out. "You're a pretender, Dean. Perhaps you can lie to me, but don't lie to yourself." Sam had sat down in the Impala and had waited for Dean. "This one case and I'll disappear again", he said when Dean sat next to him and started the engine. A lump in his throat he started the car and drove off.
After they had finished the case and had buried the dead body of the Rawhead to cover the tracks, they sat in the Impala again and Dean stopped in the middle of the empty road. "What are you doing?", Sam asked and looked at Dean. "We have to talk, now! In the last months I often thought about what could happen to you and I had nothing to make sure that you're alright. You didn't answer the phone, you ignored my SMS and calls. I didn't know what happened and that made me insane", Dean said. "I always looked for cases in the newspapers which you could be on, but I didn't find you on any. You always were somewhere else. Let's go hunting together again, we are brothers." Dean looked at his brother and Sam snorted. "I don't trust you anymore, Dean." His heart contracted. "You lied to me and you killed a friend of mine. If you want to hunt together, ok, I won't say something against but we aren't brothers, brothers don't lie to each other, they trust each other. I don't trust you. No more. "So if you want to be brothers,......", he shook his head and kept silent. Something broke in Dean's chest, but Dean mumbled and Sam nodded. Dean started the car and drove on. "The next case is in Maryland", Sam said cool and without saying a word Dean drove to the indicated direction.
"Dean?", Gabe asked and shaked Dean slightly at his shoulder. "Sam?" Gabriel shook his head. "He is in the bar, down the street", he said. "He sent a SMS", he said and sighed. "You should talk to him. I know, it must feel very bad, but Sam isn't worthy of that. Some things weren't fair, he also lost Cass and Lillian." Gabriel pulled Dean on his feet and pushed him to the bathroom. "Hold your head under cold water and talk to your brother. If you need me, you know what to do. A SMS is enough." Er grinned for short, his old naughty grin and Dean looked at him thankfully. "Where do you want to go?" A more frowning expression came to Gabriel's face. "Somebody killed my brother, what do you think, what I want to do...?" Nodding and gaving an other push in direction of the bathroom Gabriel disappeared and Dean set off to his brother.
