As the pink petals rained down on them, Dan's hands became intertwined with Phil's. The sun was beginning to set, and the park was slowly growing emptier. The silence that filled the air was not one of discomfort, but instead reminded them they were together.
The silence was broken when the pollen in the air caused Dan to stifle a small sneeze. Phil giggled at the high-pitched noise.
"Oh shut up," Dan laughed at him as he itched his nose with the edge of his jacket.
"I think it's cute," Phil stated as his lips found their way to his boyfriends.
And with that, the silence returned as Phil leaned his head on Dan's shoulder.
The love Dan felt for Phil was timeless, but the black box in his pocket suddenly felt heavy as he was in the perfect location to declare his feelings. Time was running out as the two lovers neared the end of the pathway. His hands went into his pocket, checking to make sure it was truly there, and not just his mind playing tricks on him. Dan's fingers wrapped around the velvet box as he stopped in his tracks along the dirt trail.
Phil noticed his pause, and turned to face his boyfriend.
"Dan?"
"Phil-" it was now or never. The light was dimming. The blossoms were spinning. The distractions were leaving. Everything was perfect.
It's now or never...
He released his boyfriend's hand to reach into his pocket as he went down on one knee. Phil remained motionless, but his eyes widened as he saw Dan pull out that little black box.
"Phil, there are a thousand words I could use to tell you why I love you, but to me, one stands out above all the rest- loyalty," Dan paused to take a deep breath, "when I had nobody, you were still there. Through every bad decision and stupid choice I made, you were always there. Through the good and the bad, you were always by my side, and I know you will always be there for me when I fall down, just as I am there for you."
There were noticeable tears streaming from edges of Dan's eyes, and Phil's hands had moved to cover his mouth in shock.
"Forever is the longest period of time we can fathom, but forever is not nearly long enough when I'm with you. Yet still I stand, vowing to spend my entire life by your side. Phil Lester will you marry me?"
"Of course I will!" Phil shrieked, the words barely leaving his mouth before he engulfed Dan in a hug. His smile was big and bright, and filled with pure joy. Dan slid the ring on Phil's finger before pulling him into a deep, passionate kiss. Through all the excitement, the ring most likely ended up on the wrong finger, but it didn't matter to them.
They were together and that's all that mattered.
As the cherry blossoms fell to the ground beneath their feet, and the stars burned brightly above their heads, the two were happy to spend their forevers together.
