Sonnet for the Past
Should I recall the way that we first met?
The way that we continued on talking
When we started waking in a cold sweat;
Our fates were made to be interlocking.
You were my friend in the darkest of times.
When in your presence life seemed brighter, too.
And although you could read between the lines,
My hopes for us ended up falling through.
But you didn't care; you left me behind,
Like I was just a useless afterthought.
I no longer get any peace of mind,
Now that I'm not with you I feel distraught.
Yet why do I still continue to care,
When I know that you will never be there?
