A New Life
A chance at a new life
That would totally ruin the old one,
This wasn't asked for
But she couldn't throw it away.
For a while she hated herself,
But for what reason?
This wasn't her choice;
She had raised her voice.
Screams like whispers,
The pain of captivity.
A beautiful nightingale
Trapped in a cage.
Obviously this is what she wanted
Because raised voices weren't loud enough.
And tears weren't sign enough.
So she must live with the consequences.
Whispers behind her back,
Saying she wasn't ready.
Like this was her choice,
And she just didn't know better.
She was tired of it
The judgement,
The scolding,
The opinions.
A whore, a slut,
This is what she deserved.
When she slept around,
This result was inevitable.
She resented them for making fun,
Hating that this happened to her,
Angry that she couldn't prevent this,
That she couldn't fight hard enough.
But when she tried to stop it,
She didn't have the strength to do so.
And so the new life came,
Just as it was foretold.
And as she held the future in her arms,
The possibilities,
The fruit of her labors,
She realized how fragile it was.
The hope was so tiny,
She feared if she held it wrong,
That it would break.
She clung onto it for life.
Her old way of life,
It was hopelessly out of reach.
The new life cradled in her arms,
She wouldn't ever let her child go.
