Chapter Thirty Seven

¬Luella
We left Della behind to look after the home while we continue on our journey, our destination still not having been uttered by Thought.
I trust that he is going to take me far away from our reality, somewhere we can relax and not think about what my powers mean, and what enemies they have lured in. And most importantly, it will give us time to explore the reality of what it means to be mates, since our relationship has been strange since we first met.
"I thought there could be something else we could do on our way to where I want to take us," Thought says suddenly, breaking me away from where I was staring outside the passing scenery. Right now we are passing through a dense mountain-like biome with snow packed against the side of the road, magic keeping it from covering the asphalt.
"What might that be?"
"I have word about someone who may need your help," he tells me uneasily, as if anticipating an explosive reaction. I eye him carefully. Recently I've felt like I haven't been able to help anyone, like these powers are a curse people either want to run from, or want to claim for themselves. "Someone I'm sure you would be willing to help."
Looking back out the window at the flurry of snow we pass by, I wonder who I know that I would be willing to help. In reality, I don't know many people, and don't idolize anyone at all. My sister and my mate are all I have.
"Really? Who?"
"Millicent. The Moon Goddess," he says, glancing at me from the corner of his silver eyes, gauging my reaction. I can't help but flinch, not expecting that to be what came from his mouth.
"Is she not enslaved by the Moon?"
I've never truly given myself over to the idea of the Moon Goddess, and all the stories that surround her. From what I learnt in school, she is trapped by the Moon to keep the entity company. In order to please her a lot of people pray to her, or sing to her to get benefits. However, many people never see them unless they are Alpha's, or high up in power.
"I was told through my brother that she no longer is, for now, at least," Thought says uneasily. Of course Time would know as much as possible about other immortals business. "When I contacted her mate, he said he could do with some help, especially when hearing about your abilities."
It suddenly dawns on me why someone as power as the Moon Goddess could possibly need my help. "You want me to read the Moon Goddesses mind?"
"If you would be willing, of course," he says quickly. Slouching back in my seat, I consider that for a long moment. Getting into Millicent's mind? Only a few weeks ago I would have laughed at the idea of ever coming close to an immortal like that, let alone getting into their head.
"But she is more powerful compared to other pure-bloods. It might not work."
"Apparently she doesn't have any powers," Though says with a shrug, as if he doesn't quite believe that. Honestly, neither do I. "If you are worried, then you do not need to."
I sigh, knowing that this is the right thing to do, "I'll do it."

It took us a few hours to reach Sinful's estate, after finding out this snowy biome belongs to him.
I'm not surprised when we climb up a treacherous hill to the top, finding a magnificent estate on the top with a breathtaking view of endless mountain tops and a glittering starry sky. Here I was thinking Thought had one of the most beautiful manors in the immortal realm, when clearly I had never laid eyes on Sinfuls home.
Thought approach the main door, which towers over us magnificently, with our hands entwined, as if we can protect ourselves from what is behind that door. Everyone knows about Sinful, and what he is capable of. He could lure us in here and kill us if he wanted to.
No, you are powerful too. You can hold your own against Immortals.
Shivering against the chilled air, we wait for the door to open, to reveal whatever darkness lays beyond. I know enough about the Moon Goddess's mate to fear him. His power is frightening, because it can change one's emotions, making them make a decision they have no control over, and even worse, you don't realise that you shouldn't be making that decision. We could walk in here and leave having done something we cannot remember.
The moment the door starts to open, Thought is talking. "What do you need help with?"
Sinful stands at the door, looking exactly how I remember him to look. He has dark, thick hair with eyes that are the strangest lavender colour I've seen. They drink in the sight of me, ignoring Thought. He's likely trying to figure me out, wondering how I have the ability to get into his head.
"No even going to greet me?" he questions, brilliant white teeth flashing as he smiles at us both, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest, his rolled up button up shirt showing off his strong build.
"You know how I feel about you, Sinful," Thought mutters tirelessly, looking over Sinful's shoulder and into his home. "We are here for Millicent."
Sinful drags his gaze to me, smiling softly. He has such a charming, attractive look to him, which has nothing to do with his powers. He is the Sin, Lust, giving him the ability to seduce anyone with just a thought alone. I'm not sure if I could have handled being mated to him, so I'm not sure how Millicent does it.
"Hello Sinful. I hope you are well," I say quickly, forcing a smile onto my face despite my unease. There is no point angering Sinful right now. We are here to do a favour for Millicent, not to get on anyones bad side.
Sinful smiles, stepping back to let us into his home.
As soon as I step inside, I see Millicent, the Moon Goddess. She stands back, looking meek and nervous. She is stunningly beautiful though, with long black hair that falls to her hips, touched with gentle waves. Her eyes are a piercing green, which stare at me warily. I can't blame her for finding me strange, considering what my power is.
"We are grateful for your help, Luella," she says softly. Her voice is so gentle and whimsical, enchanting in a way that makes my skin shiver. Glancing at Sinful, it's obvious he is infatuated with her. He watches her with careful precision, not a single movement going unnoticed. It's sweet, in a way, but it also makes it very evident that they haven't romantically accepted that they are mates.
"Wow...You really are here," I breathe. I would have never thought I would be standing before the Moon Goddess in my lifetime.
She brushes her hands down the front of her skirt."Yes, so it seems."
I know what that means. Don't ask me why I'm here, or how I got here.
"We should get started as soon as possible," Sinful says quickly, motioning for us all to follow him. We all do so, Millicent walking in front of me. She has a lithe, willowy figure as if she hasn't had to walk around or even hold herself up for years. Even the way she walks is magical, like he is floating.
"What do you need me to do?" I ask.
"Millicent has lost her powers, yet adopted mine. We would like to know why this is, or maybe how we could stop it," Sinful explains. Maybe if you look inside her head you will be able to figure out whats wrong."
"There's no guarantee that this will work," I remind them both uneasily, as we walk into some kind of sitting area. Sinful and Millicent sit opposite Thought and I on the couch, a coffee table separating us.
Sinful sighs. "I have my doubts."
"We have to give it a chance," Thought says promptly, likely cutting him off from saying anything else. Of course they doubt I'm being truthful about my abilities. A simple girl with such a powerful ability is almost unheard of.
But yet here I am, helping them regardless.
Millicent nods her head for me to continue, so I sit back on the couch, concentrating on my task. It doesn't take me long to get inside her head, which is a surprise considering how powerful she truly is. This is getting easy, I realise, which is a terrifying thought.
Once I'm inside her head, I start sifting through her memories, trying to figure out where this issue may be arising from. I'm not an expert, but clearly they have tried other ways to understand this before coming to me. I might just be a last resort.
As I sort through her memories, I try not to concentrate too hard on her personal information, especially regarding Sinful and their relationship. Instead, I focus on her powers, and what they may be related to, until I stumble upon something that doesn't quite make sense.
Following the memory back, I ignore the dull pain gathering between my own eyes, trying to make sense of everything.
It then hits me what I'm seeing. And it's terrifying.
