Chapter Ten

~Luella
Trailing behind Revel, I warily look around me.
When I first came here, I didn't take much notice of the interior of this magnificent estate. Either that, or this uncomfortable feeling I'm drenched in is because he decided to revamp his home. Everything around me is different to what I remember. White reflective floors, dark walls. Everything is simple in its design, mirrors everywhere. My throat goes dry at the sight of it.
Revel leads me down a hallway and into a dining hall. It's beautiful, a complete representation of utter grandeur. I'm not sure who is putting on a show here, and who they are planning on impressing, but it's surely worked. The long table running down the centre of the room is laden with well presented silverware.
I'm so busy starting at the vases of blooming flowers in the centre of dinner table, I don't notice the figure that walks into the room.
The sound of Revel clearing his throat gets my attention.
Glancing up, I meet the eyes of Thought. I forget how intimidating a pureblood immortal can be, as I find myself drowning within his gaze, and the silvery veil of mist that shrouds his irises. He's adorned in a simple black jacket with royal blue stitching and buttons, a dark satin shirt underneath. His rolled up sleeves reveal tattoos, similar to Revel's, although darker, and if my eyes don't deceive me, I can see a faint hint of purple colour.
"You came," he says. He doesn't look surprised. He's probably sifting through my head right now, deciding what perfectly to say to manipulate me even more. It makes me feel vulnerable, but as he once told me, when I speak my mind as soon as the thought comes to my head, he can't keep up with me.
I smile tightly at Revel, who pulls out a chair for me to sit at near the end. "Looks like it."
"I'm glad you set this little dinner up, Thought. I think we have a few bridges to build between us, don't we?" Revel says brightly, his tone in completely contrast to the tense mood within this room. Thought follows suit, and finally we are all sitting down in close proximity to each other. Revel on my right, and Thought directly opposite me.
I'm sitting here right now out of desperation and confusion. I haven't yet revealed what these two immortals want to do with me. The more I think about it, the more I'm unnerved. What is this is an entire elaborate trap to kidnap me to test their powers out on.
"No harm in getting to know each other a little better," Thought replies, that breezy voice floating within the space between us. He doesn't take his eyes off me for a second - only to blink. It feels for a moment, like Revel isn't in the room with us.
"I'm not sure how I'm supposed to be involved with any of this," I admit, hoping I could cut to the chase. No point beating around the bush.
"Bad luck, right?" Revel says, before assessing our expressions. "Okay, maybe not."
They are hiding something. Clearly. Both of them are in on it, at least. They have me here to distract me, while something more devious goes on behind my back. Just confiding this information with myself puts me at risk, however, I realise now that I need to get out of here, no matter what. I'm just not sure how I'm meant to go about that.
"Are you going to go through my head?" I ask. It's a lot less of a question, and more of demand. I'm making commands to a powerful immortal beyond me. He could crush me with a single thought in his head. At this moment, he could force me to pick up the knife in front of me, and stab it into my eye.
Thought shrugs his shoulders in a way that hardly suits a man of his level. "You don't need to be concerned with that. I have no interest in delving through your mind."
"All I want is some answers. That's it," I say, taking a more passive route. I know Thought is lying to me.
I can't prove it, though.
"You're here, because all of this complication and constant stress is enough for you. You told me yourself you want out, right Luella?" Revel says, keeping his tone perky, eyeing me with intent beyond what his worlds suggest. I know what I'm here to do, which suddenly, I have no interest in. I would much rather live and get out of here, with my hallucinations or not.
I love to make bad decisions, don't I.
"I mean, answers would be nice for a start. Then maybe we can talk about getting rid of these dreams," I supply, trying not to make my positions obvious, if Thought happens to be telling the truth, and isn't violating my privacy at this very moment.
"I thought I explained everything to you," he says, that tone suggesting he doesn't anymore of this conversation brought up. If this isn't what they expected to be talked about, then what did they? Did Thought truly think I'm here because I want to build a friendly relationship with him? He knows what I'm going through, and has infinite power within that realm, and yet he won't put a stop to it.
There's no way something else isn't going on...
"Well it didn't work. Why me? I just don't get it," I say, practically pleading at this point. All I want is this to end, and if he can't make that happen, I'll have to find another way.
"Maybe it has something to do with-"
All of a sudden, the doorbell rings. It makes Revel jump, clearly not expecting anyone else to come in here and screw with this plan. I haven't even started telling him I want nothing to do with him yet. Still, I sit here, watching him get up from his seat, going to answer the door himself. What happened to that pretty blue eyed girl I saw before?
"I didn't think you were expecting anyone else," Revel mutters beneath his break once Thought leaves the room for a moment. I eye him, desperately begging for more information, but receiving more.
Thought suddenly appears at the doorway, adjusting his jacket, eyes cast down at the floor. Guilt...if immortals can feel that.
Then, a small figure follows him in. My eyes widen, as I hone in on those familiar green eyes, coming to the realisation that I'm staring at my own sister. "Della? What are you doing here?"
Revel rubs the back of his neck. "This is an interesting turn of events."
Thought looks beyond uncomfortable. For a fully composed man, it's an unnerving sight. The presence of my sister in the room has sudden hypnotised him, turning him into a brooding, solemn man. Usually Della has the opposite effect, always being the brightest light in the room.
"We are...together," Thought says, glancing up at me. There's a frown etched into his forehead, not even looking for a second at his so called girlfriend. Can immortals even have girlfriends?
"Huh?" Revel states.
"Since when?" I demand.
Della shifts on her feet, clasping her hands together. "I didn't know how best to tell you, sis."
"I'm sorry. I'm confused," I say, digging my hands through my head. A million questions stream through my mind, but not one can stick. Why am I here? Why is Thought dating my sister? Why does her very presence make him look like he's going to be sick? Why is Revel involved in this? The lack of answers is making me sick.
Thought sits back down again, and Della joins him, an uncomfortable smile on her face. "As I was saying, it might have something to do with the fact that I'm dating your sister."
"Hope you're not mad," Della seems meekly.
Something seems off. This isn't Della, but yet it is. The way she smiles suggests there are thoughts within her mind that are making her anxious, but in a social situation, she doesn't want anyone to realise. I've seen it many times before. I just want to reach out and comfort her, but I'm struck by a moment of anger.
"You're telling me you explained away all of my mental issues when you knew Thought might have something to do with it?" I question. The feeling of betrayal hits me hard in the ribs.
She cocks her head, looking confused. "I'm confused."
Glancing briefly toward Thought, I notice him quirk an eyebrow up at Della, who blinks once, then turns back to me dressed in a sympathetic expression. "Oh right. I'm sorry, I didn't think about the connection."
I can hardly believe what I'm hearing. "I thought you cared about me. I'm your sister."
Della looks at Thought, a silent demand for help. He stands up, but on his own fruition, not even looking once at my sister. I'm suddenly standing too, grabbing my coat, hoping to find a way out. I'm too consumed by this poisonous livid feeling that has plagued me.
"Could you sit down and listen, Luella-"
Thoughts soft persistent tone is tempting, but regardless, I push away from the table. "Never talk to me again. Stop these dreams, these hallucinations, and leave me the hell alone. I want nothing to do with you."
Thought looks pained, as I whirl around. Despite my words, I get the feeling that this isn't over.
No one can escape Thought. Especially not me.
