Those who remain

Eden Smith was never supposed to be in Atlanta, surrounded by strangers. She should have been at home safe with her mom and dad, except she wasn't. They weren't there, most probably dead leaving her alone and having to rely on herself and those around her for safety. But why would people she didn't know risk their lives for her?

She was never good at making friends, not ever. Not even when she was younger, it wasn't that no one tried to befriend her, she just preferred her own company. Or the company of her parents. Her dad said she was to sheltered, that her mom kept her wrapped in bubble wrap so nothing could harm her. She remembered nights hearing her parents argue, when they thought she was out of earshot, about who she was a loner, not in those exact words but they danced around it. She could imagine her dad's face, laughing at the fact it took the world to end for her to make a friend.

It was her dad who told her to sign up for a club, in hopes she would mingle with the others members and finally make a precious friend. So she put her name down for the first one she saw, debate, she argued with her dad at home over the dinner table about world events, it couldn't have been that different. It was through debate she ended up in Atlanta with her team for the championship, piled on a coach with excited teens filled with strong opinions. Her idea of hell.

It was on the second day when the day began to rise, spreading their "illness" to those around them. With no way of getting home her and her team were forced to beg for rides home from other scared families trying to evacuate, after their teacher never returned from trying to find out just what was going on.

It was through this where she met Lori, Shane and Carl, with protest with Shane. Eden wasn't sure why her squeezing in the back of their packed car was such a problem, she only had one backpack to her name and wasn't very talkative anyway, not that Carl got that. He kept rambling to her, she wasn't sure if it was the fact someone similar in age to him was with him or from fear of not knowing what was happening. Either way she stared ahead at the traffic in front of her and nodded once in a while, she was scared and why wouldn't be she was surrounded by strangers at the end of the world. She wanted her dad and her mom's protective bubble wrap back.

The new found group never did manage to evacuate, instead they ended up in a rock quarry with even more people. All just as scared as the next, apart from the Dixon brothers if you asked them. Life had become weird, about surviving day by day. However so far no real danger had appeared to them, until Rick Grimes came back from the dead.
