Chapter 11
"Camelia? Are you okay?" asked her mother, carrying groceries. The blind girl stopped laughing and looked at her mom.
"Oh, yes." And her mom saw the kitchen mess created by the burglars.
"What happened here! Did a tornado rush in?!!" screamed the woman.
"Oh... About that... How can I explain it..." said Camelia, hesitant. I wished her good luck for her explanation.
"And the window!" continued her mother as she inspected the kitchen.
"Mom, I want you to listen very carefully." Mrs. Osborn stopped wandering and looked at Camelia, who took a deep breath.
"I invited a friend over, and when we were playing a game, burglars came in the kitchen by the window. So he drove them out of the house, but the thieves made a mess before they left." Well that was almost believable, and also kinda true. Good job Camelia.
"Burglars? Oh dear! Are you all right?!" She went to hug Camelia. "Poor you... It must have been so terrifying..."
"Don't worry mom, really, I'm fine!" The blind girl pushed her mother back.
"Thank goodness for that." She sighed. "Well, I guess I will have to clean up this mess before we can have dinner...."
"Why are you even here, mom? Don't you have work?" asked Camelia. That was true. And I am pretty sure work ends like at supper time.
"No, not today, I don't have any shifts, by some kind of miracle. So I went to do the groceries. Oh! Also, I got new pills for you. They say there's a great chance these will work." She dug a hand in one of her bags and took out a little bottle, and put it in Camelia's hands.
"By the way Camelia," said her mother before the blind girl and I left the kitchen. "Have you thought about who you would like as help for school?"
"Yes," she replied. "It is the same friend who came this morning." What!? Me?! I never agreed to this!
"I see..." her mom replied with an amused expression. "Is he your boyfriend?"
Her... boyfriend? Yeah, I was a boy and her friend... Then I remembered that this expression was used to describe someone's lover. Oh. That, I wasn't.
"Mom! It's not like that!" said Camelia, annoyed and blushing. She was cute, all blushing and freaking out at the idea that her mom thought she loved someone.
I followed Camelia to her room, where I manifested my disagreement.
"I don't want to accompany you to school all week!" I protested.
"Stop lying. I know you are longing to know more about humans, their feelings and their relations."
I was speechless. She was right. Inside me, I wanted to go there to understand humans.
How did a human girl know some much about me in so little time?!
