Christmas

The tree is up
Baubles dangling by wire
With flickering lights
Dancing across the streamers.
Wrapping laying about from opening presents and
Children having big smiles across their faces.

Carols play in the background
As family laugh and drink eggnog
While the tantalizing smell of food
Dances from the kitchen,
Up to my nose.

Yet,
Where is the candle that burns deep inside?

The decorations and carols
Bring little effort to portray Christmas.
The lights are tired and the food is stale...
The laughter sounds forced
While the flickering tree
Looks like a cactus,

This year, it doesn't feel like Christmas
It just...
Feels like an ordinary day
