Building Hope
Building Hope
How far do you need to run
Before the suffering is done?
How much is enough
Before everything
Becomes too tough
And hopeless?
Here, happiness has no name
Hope is imaginary
And cold images can be the blame
For what's in the heart
There must be a way
To break the greed
And contempt,
To let dreams take flight
And build walls of endurance
I'll build a city
Where your stone turns
To gold and glass,
Where your tears
Pave the roads to victory
Between sweet flowery
Daffodils and sunflowers
Harness your pain,
Bring forth a sense
Of trust
And belong.
I'm building a place
Where hope is grafitti,
Happiness has a face
And roads lead
Away from fear.
I'm building a city
For only
You and me.
