The Sweet Sting of Infection

As soon as that was established the trio had set off for the mountain. Darryl's wounds had stopped bleeding due to Vincent's excessive wrapping. They had been climbing for a little bit now and it was just starting to get shiver worthy cold.

"H-How much further?" Zak asked rubbing his arms as you see in movies characters do when it's pretty cold.

"I don't know," Vincent replied sounding somewhat irritable. "We get there when we get there!" They climbed up one more ledge before hearing this soft thud into the snow. Darryl had fallen into the snow and was now struggling to get up. In an instant both boys were at his side. Zak was helping him get up and Vincent ran off suddenly to find a place to rest. Zak sat there cuddling with the shivering, half-conscious Darryl for many moments before Vincent came back into sight.

"Is there anything nearby?" Zak almost shouted at him as the blizzard grew stronger.

"Yes!" Vincent sounded ecstatic and helped Zak stand Darryl back on his feet and carefully half carry him to the place Vincent found. It was a very small ledge that was clean and had no snow beneath it. It was shallow and uncomfortable to stay in, but it would be good enough for them to not freeze to death. As soon as they made it to there Vincent hurried off trying to find the mansion in blind panic. Zak sat with Darryl placing his hand on the man's forehead.

"Your burning up," Zak spoke half to himself sniffling as he rubbed his left hand gingerly. It had gone pale blue in the weather and he now winced in pain as his hand throbbed harder. Darryl definitely had an infection and was probably facing the worst of it. Pain was written all over his face even though he was fast asleep. Zak pulled his friend into his chest trying to warm him up. His body received a quick sharp amount of goose bumps as he first felt Darryl's body temperature. Corpse cold. He shivered but then tried to tune out any other sounds as he placed his good hand on Darryl's neck keeping check on his pulse and breathing. It was maybe 20 minutes before the French man shivered into view. Zak barely noticed him until he was sat right next to him.

"M-Mansion?" Zak muttered weekly. He was trying his hardest to stay conscious for Vincent's sake.

"Noth-Nothing," Vincent whispered. He rubbed his hands together attempting warmth once again but failed. His face had become a sickly pale blue colour. Barely noticeable but still there. He was shivering wildly. None of them would make it through the night. Infection, frostbite, and hypothermia all crossed with exhaustion equals death. Quite the tragedy. Zak muttered something inaudible for both Vincent and he before sadly giving in to the sweet release of rest. Vincent forced himself to get up and move closer to the group. He already had realised earlier he had found himself hypothermia. He took off his acquired wool jacket from a small shop in the city and draped it over his suffering friends. He shivered as he practically slid to the floor. As he battled his own will to join his friends in the calm silence of sleep, he noticed something in the distance. A person? A predator? A zombie? Who knows? Vincent wanted to check it out but failed at his test in standing class. The thing approached where the trio were dying and took a closer look. Vincent could now rule out one of the options. It wasn't an animal due to the human posture.

"hwy uare qoiuy ghouys oakyi?" the person wondered closer crouching to Vincent's eye level. It now poked at Vincent and he sniffled shaking. The person now took of its bag and pulled out a big blanket. He then proceeded to wrap Vincent in it. The person now picked up both Darryl and Zak placing both gently on his shoulders. "Cean qoiuy csteande?" the person looked at Vincent who was blinking slowly at them. The person sighed and grabbed Vincent gently by his shirt and awkwardly attempted to carry/drag him through the snow. It was getting a little too cold for Vincent's brain and he blacked out in an instant.
