Intro
To anyone who reads my other fanfics, yes, I use balconies a lot, but that is mainly because I wish I had a balcony of my own. dont judge me.
MANY YEARS BEFORE......
It was the good days of Erebor, before the evil dragon Smaug came and destroyed it.
Princess Snowlily was standing on the balcony off her room when her brother came to stand beside her.
"Good morning Snowlily. Why are you up so early?" Thorin asked.
"Good morning Thorin. I didn't sleep at all." she replied softly.
"Well why not?"
"I don't know."
"Ok."
They stood there, his hand on hers, watching the sunrise.
Eventually, they headed to breakfast where their father, grandfather, and sister were.
"Where were you two?" Dis asked.
"Snowlily, why are you so pale?" Thrain asked.
"We were on her balcony to watch the sunrise, and she didn't sleep at all last night." Thorin replied.
"I believe the second question was directed to your sister, not you Thorin. You are not going to be able to talk for her all the time. I've let it go for a month, and it stops now!" Thror demanded.
"She can't talk or she would!" Thorin exclaimed.
"She talks fine to you!"
"Let me rephrase that. She can't say anything to either of you, because you don't believe her! I mean, for pete's sake father, you said you'd die before anyone hurt her or Dis, yet you won't believe Snowlily that she was raped! She was up all night throwing up because she's pregnant from it, and you don't care!" Thorin shouted, causing Snowlily to hide behind him.
"Thorin, please don't get angry over me. Please don't. I hate it. "Snowlily whispered.
"It's not true! If she was pregnant, she would show by now!" Thrain shouted
"It's only been a month! Give her the respect she deserves and you don't!" Thorin retorted angrily.
Thrain stood and slammed his hands on the table.
"I will not be spoken to like that by anyone, especially my own son!"
They all stopped as they heard the door, and Thorin realized that Snowlily's grip on his arm was gone.
That's when Dis lost her temper. She didn't like seeing her little sister crying, and she was when she ran out.
"If mother was alive, you would be treating Snowlily just like you treat me! You would believe her! The only reason you hate her is because she looks so much like mother did! Give her the respect you would give mother, because Thorin is right! You don't deserve the respect! Not if you can't treat your own daughter right! You need to bring your pride down a couple hundred notches, and actually care about her!" Dis shouted, standing and throwing her chair against the wall.
Thror, Thrain, and Thorin were silent and in shock. Dis never lost her temper before.
Thorin walked out to find Snowlily.
Meanwhile, as this fight was taking a turn for the worse, Snowlily was running through town
Thorin's friend Dwalin thought this was strange to see Snowlily without Thorin. She was always attached to him. Dwalin decided to investigate.
He saw her go into the local inn, so he followed.
He knew that Thorin was good friends with the innkeeper, so Snowlily would not be charged, and she would get special treatment.
Dwalin found her at the table in the very back, with a look of pure terror on her face as some dwarf Dwalin didn't recognize was talking to her.
He heard some of the conversation.
"Your family still doesn't know the truth, do they? About what I've done to you? That I've tried to kill you? That I abused you?" the dwarf asked.
Dwalin stepped in.
"Excuse me, but if she doesn't want you around her, I suggest you scram, or you'll have me and Thorin to answer to." he said.
The guy turned around, saw Dwalin's size and sword, and ran back to his table.
Dwalin saw tears streaming down her cheeks, and went to see if she was ok.
"Are you ok Snowlily?"
She shook her head.
"No, aren't you Thorin's friend?"
"Yes, I'm Dwalin. Would you like me to go find him?"
"No, but thank you for offering. He knows where I'm at."
"Ok. What happened?"
"Fights about me like usual, that's all."
"What about you? There is nothing wrong with you!"
"Well, that dwarf who you scared off raped me, and I'm pregnant from in, but my father and grandfather don't believe me. They got in a fight with Thorin over me, so now I'm here. Without Thorin. So people find it ok to bother me."
"Oh, ok. That's not good."
She shrugged.
"I'm used to it."
Thorin came in at that precise moment, and Dwalin left. Thorin saw the look of shock on her face.
"What's up?" he asked her.
"I just had a full conversation with someone other than you."
"Dwalin has a tendency to get people to talk."
"Obviously. I won't even talk to my own father."
"Speaking of father, he is planning a huge party for your coming of age birthday tomorrow. He's making it bigger than normal to make everything up to you."
The next day, Thrain was running around like a chicken with his head cut off.
He had Dis take Snowlily to get them both new dresses.
That evening, both girls were in Snowlily's room.
Dis was helping Snowlily.
Snowlily's dress was a deep blue, just like her eyes.
Currently, Dis was braiding her hair.
After she was done, she got herself ready, and they headed down to the party with Thorin, who had been waiting outside the door.
"Father invited everyone from Dale and Erebor to come, and any elves that could make it from Mirkwood." Dis said.
"So, in other words, there will be a lot of people." Snowlily replied.
"Yep." Thorin confirmed.
"Fun." Snowlily mumbled.
"You'll be fine." Thorin told her, squeezing her hand reassuringly.
"If you say so."
"I do. Dwalin will even be there if that means anything."
"Why would it mean anything?"
"Well, Dwalin never came to any of my parties, and he is my friend."
"Oh."
By that time, they were at the party, and everyone was saying happy birthday to her.
She just waved or nodded in acknowledgement.
What she wasn't expecting was, while she was sitting on the balcony, hoping Thorin would come over, Thrain wrapped his arms around her, but she thought it was Thorin.
She turned, and jumped.
"Oh! Daddy! I thought you were Thorin!" she exclaimed.
"Nope, Thorin is over there talking to Dwalin." Thrain said.
"Okey-dokey."
"Happy birthday, honey."
"Thank you daddy."
He kissed the top of her head, and walked away to talk to Thror.
All the guys started asking her to dance, and she just shook her head. They didn't question it, though.
She was giggling over the fact her father went through so much trouble for her coming of age.
Dwalin and Thorin were actually talking about it.
"What is wrong with her?" Dwalin asked because she was giggling.
"I don't know. I think she's high." Thorin replied.
"Why won't she dance with anyone?"
"I don't know! Why don't you ask her that?!"
"Fine! I will!"
Dwalin walked over to the balcony she was on.
"Would you like to dance?" he asked.
"No thank you, Dwalin. I'm sorry."
"Why not?"
"Well, I don't know how."
"Then I'll show you."
"Well... What if I want to stay here?"
"Too bad. Come on."
He grabbed her hand, and dragged her to the middle of the dance floor.
She looked to Thorin for help, but he was literally bent double laughing.
So she turned to her dad. He was laughing too.
Then she turned to her grandfather, who smiled, but did nothing.
She pouted, and Dwalin laughed.
He took one of her hands in his, and put his other hand on her waist.
He showed her how to dance, and they danced for a while. Long enough for her to get tired enough to lay her head on his chest.
When they finally stopped, there was only an hour of the party left, and she went back to her balcony.
Dwalin went back to talk to Thorin.
"She didn't want to dance cuz she didn't know uow, but she does now... What's so funny?" Dealin asked.
"You are so stubborn!" Thorin laughed.
"Well, I have no idea why I did that!"
"Oh my god Dwalin."
"You know what, good bye."
Dwalin walked over to the balcony, and sat by Snowlily.
"You haven't come to ask me to dance again, have you?" she questioned.
"No, Thorin is just being weird."
"When isn't Thorin being weird?"
"Good point."
"I'm getting tired, so I think I'm going to leave."
"I'll walk you to your room. "
"Oh no, that won't be necessary."
"Please, I insist."
They walked out, and as they walked to her room, she could tell he was staring at her.
They got to her door, and she turned to thank him, but found out he was extremely close.
"G-good night, Dwalin." she said softly. She went to go into her room, but he got a hold of her arm, spun her back around, and kissed her slowly and passionately.
"Good night Snowlily." he mumbled, his lips still against hers.
The next day, Snowlily was in the park when Dwalin came to talk to her.
"Um, can I ask you something I haven't been able to until yesterday? " he questioned.
"Sure." Snowlily replied. She turned to him, and before she completely turned, she began to say, "What would that b- Oh my god!"
She had turned around to see Dwalin on one knee.
"Snowlily, will you marry me?" he asked quietly.
"I-I don't think I'm ready to marry anyone, but I do feel the same way." she managed to stutter.
"That is perfectly ok. " he replied, kissing her.
"Although, since I came of age yesterday and not today, why didn't you propose last night?"
"Um, 4 reasons, actually, and their order of importance. 1 Thrain. 2 Thorin. 3 Thror. 4 I forgot the ring. Actually, I lost it."
She began to giggle, which made him smile, because her laugh was contagious.
Then suddenly, everything took a turn for the worse.
The dragon Smaug came, and destroyed Erebor and Dale.
Dwalin and Snowlily had no idea what was going on, until Snowlily was blasted back and knocked out with several burns.
Dwalin carried her to where he knew Thorin would be, and with Thorin, were Thrain and Thror.
After Dwalin gave Snowlily to Thorin to carry, that day was the last day Snowlily saw and spoke to Dwalin for many years.
Sorry it took so long.
