A Winter's Ball
~Y/n's POV time skip~
I looked at myself in the mirror. I was wearing a blue dress and my mothers necklace.
A/n That is the dress
That's when I heard a knock at the door.
"Come in!" I called. The door opened to reveal Thomas in a black, velvet suit.
"Wow," he said walking towards me, "you are beautiful, you look like a princess." I felt my cheeks heat up. He grabbed my arm and said, "they are waiting for us downstairs." We walked down the stairs to see all of the 324 people Thomas and I, well mostly Thomas had invited. Everyone was looking at me.
"Just hold your head up Y/n, I know you don't like people staring," he said. We walked down the stairs, as soon as we reached the bottom step, the band resumed playing and everything went back to how it was before.
"Y/n!" A voice called. I turned around to see Alexander and Eliza.
"Alex!" I exclaimed, running over to him and pulling him into a hug, "How are you?"
"I'm good, how are you?" He asked.
"I'm good! Eliza how are you, I haven't seen you in forever!" I exclaimed, pulling Eliza in for a hug.
"I'm great!" She said. Then I saw my father appear from the crowd.
"Y/n, you look very nice this evening," he said with a smile. That was I think the first time I had seen my father smile in years.
"Thank you dad," I said, hugging him as well.
"Y/n there is someone very special I would like you to meet, follow me," Thomas said as he grabbed my hand. He lead me through the crowd to the other side of the room. There stood a man who looked very similar to Thomas, except his hair was pulled into a tight bun.
"Thomas! Mon ami!" The man yelled. He ran up to Thomas and gave him a tight hug.
"Lafayette it is good to see you again! Allow me to introduce my girlfriend Y/n Washington," Thomas said. Lafayette kissed my hand, I saw Thomas roll his eyes and chuckle.
"It is so nice to finally meet you Madam Washington, Thomas has written me so much about you. My name is Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, but you can call me Lafayette," he said. I smiled.
"I feel like we have met before," I said.
"Ah yes, I do believe we met when your father was general, but Alex mostly looked after you. I babysat you once and it was a disaster," Lafayette laughed.
"Disaster is a bit of an understatement," a voice said from behind us. We turned around to see Alexander, who quickly ran into Lafayette's muscular arms, "when George and I got back there was piss everywhere and Y/n had a broken arm. Also why didn't you tell me you were coming? I have missed you so much!" Alex almost looked like he was crying, Lafayette pulled him closer into his arms. It almost looked romantic.
"Je suis désolé mon ami, je voulais que ce soit une surprise. J'espère que vous n'êtes pas fâché (I'm sorry mon ami, I wanted it to be a surprise. I hope you are not to upset)," Lafayette said.
"C'est bon Lafayette, je ne pourrais jamais rester en colère contre toi plus de 12 heures maintenant, n'est-ce pas? (It's ok Lafayette, I could never stay mad at you for more than 12 hours now could I?)" Alexander said with a laugh. Then my father walked up and held out his hand.
"Lafayette, it is good to see you again," he said.
"It is good to see you to George, I have missed you very much," he said.
"I have to Lafayette," my dad said. Then a slow romantic song began to play.
"Y/n, may I have the honor of this dance?" Thomas asked, holding out his hand.
"Of course," I said.

A/n this is the song, I know this song didn't exist at the time, but it's a damn good song and this is the song they are dancing to
Thomas and I began to dance, the dance floor clearing so everyone could watch us. Thomas had one on my waist, while to other clutching one of my hands. This was so romantic, it felt like it was just us and no one else.
"Y/n you are so beautiful, this does feel like a dream," Thomas said. As the song slowly ended, Thomas let go of me and immediately fell to one knee and pulled out a ring from his pocket. The crowd gasped. I saw my father and Alex smile proudly as Lafayette and Eliza shared a glance that seemed to mean "holy shit."
"Y/n Washington. I have loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you when you were an adult, I did not love you when you were a child cause that's weird," Thomas began. The crowd laughed. "Kitten, you mean so much to me and I can't see my life with you not in it. Every time I see you my heart skips a beat and I think of how lucky I am to be blessed to have you in my life. Y/n Washington, will you make me the happiest man alive and marry me?" I felt my eyes filling with tears.
"Yes Tommy, of course!" I managed to say in between tears. Thomas slipped the ring on my finger and then got back on his feet and pulled me into a tight kiss.
"I love you so much Y/n, you don't even know," Thomas said as tears streamed down his face.
"Thomas, you have no clue how much I love you," I said, kissing him again.
That is when we heard a gunshot, followed by a scream.
