Chapter 49 - Emily Ramirez

Nekta and Dabi went out in broad daylight in their disguises. They both look like tourist in a trip in Hokkaido for the day so no one really pays attention to them.

After three days, Nekta heard from Dabi that he found someone of the name Emily Ramirez in Hokkaido and this immediately got the girl's attention. She's hopeful that her family must still be alive, with her sister being confirmed to still be out there. Although, this info that Dabi acquired is yet to be confirmed.

The two of them have been investigating and searching for Emily ever since Dabi officially joined the League. No one else knows about this except Shigaraki and Kurogiri. Those time they have to excuse themselves to talk, the conversation is always about Emily. However, Dabi didn't knew about her true identity until the reveal a few days ago.

"So, you made me search the whole country for your mother. Nice going, princess," Dabi smirked under his mask and Nekta rolled her eyes at him.

"And you're dumb enough to do it," she retorted earning an amused chuckle from the male. She looked at him to see him giving her a smug look, "What are you looking at?"

"Oh nothing. Just, when I joined the league, I didn't expect you to be someone who have a good relationship with your family," Dabi bluntly said and Nekta froze at his words. She then regained her composure and cleared her throat before raising an eyebrow at the older villain.

"Well do you have a good relationship with them? Let me guess. No," Nekta countered and she clearly didn't expect Dabi to just coolly look at her and not glare or snap.

"You're right. But I'm not telling you any of that...yet," he smirked and Nekta growled. She facepalmed and thought to herself that she's surrounded by idiots.

"So, how did you find her? Emily, I mean," she finally asked. She's been itching to ask that question since their ride here and she finally managed to do it. Dabi sinks his hands into his coat's pocket and continues to lead Nekta to their destination.

"I already have a lead a few weeks before, but decided to investigate thoroughly. I've learned that this Emily is a widow and has a flower shop business. She arrived here in Hokkaido 9 years ago from your home city. She didn't have any children and lives together with another woman named, Makoto Ishijima. No one really know anything about her before that," he relayed to her and she looks down. The male villain looks at her to see her reaction but only saw her usual vague expression.

Sometimes, it's almost like she's incapable of harboring any other emotions.

"This have to be my mother," she said, loud enough for Dabi to hear. She kept her eyes forward, making sure to keep walking beside Dabi. She always had hope inside of her that her family is still alive despite the incident almost 10 years ago. At least, it'll be in a couple of days.

After that, life literally changed for all of them. Reality has never been chaotic after one impulsive act of a parent who wanted their children saved.

---

They arrived in front of a house with a couple of plants and flowers situated in the balcony. The house is made of oak wood and stands alone in the middle of a wide field of flowers.

"Are you sure this is it?" Nekta asked, staring at the house and Dabi nodded, "We can't just barge in like usual, can we?"

"Want to try, princess?" He smirked, earning an eye roll from the teenager. They stopped when a woman with blue hair and pointy ears like a dogs in late 20s exited the house. She is holding a water can pours the liquid on the purple carnelians, "That's Makoto Ishijima."

"You didn't told me she has a mutation type of quirk," Nekta glared as Dabi just sheepishly shrugs. Sometimes, she have no trust in her colleagues. Especially this ultra snarky, ultra mysterious Frankenstein man.

"Whatever."

She started walking towards the house and the woman stopped in her task when she seemingly sensed the two coming. Her ears perked up like a dog's and her nose twitches as if smelling something other than her flowers. She followed her instincts and looked at their direction. Her eyes widened but suppressed a smile. When they are nearing the porch, the woman decided to entertain her guests.

"Welcome. How may I help you?" She asked politely, putting the watering can down and making her way towards them.

"By any means, are you perhaps Makoto Ishijima?" Nekta inquired and the woman nodded, placing her hand on her chest.

"I am, indeed, as you say. What can I do for you, young lady?" She asked with honey in her voice like a mother and Nekta took something from her pocket and showed it to Makoto. The woman's eyes bears no expression to what the photo shows. It's a photo of a grey haired woman with bright green eyes and perfectly tan skin. She resembles Nekta's own face.

"Do you know this woman?" The teen asked and Makoto turned back to Nekta.

"Who are you to her, may I ask?"

"I'm...someone's who's been searching for her for a long time," she said and Makoto's eyes shifted towards Dabi and somehow glares before softening when she glanced back to Nekta.

"You're probably Nekta, aren't you?" She asked and Nekta refrained from showing any emotions.

"So you must know her!"

"I don't deny anything," she said, her previous sweet and polite demeanor melted away, replaced with a serious one, "Come. We'll talk inside. Bring your male friend also. It will be a mess if the police sees him."

With that statement, it is clear that she knows of their current status as villains. Nekta decided to follow her instincts and do as Makoto told them. They walked over to the balcony and followed Makoto into the house. Inside is as fresh as the outside. There is a fireplace inside the living room and a cozy living room set.

There are couple of doors that looks to be the bedrooms and bathroom and a doorway towards the kitchen. Makoto went to the kitchen and told them to sit and make themselves at home.

They did and Dabi slumped on the couch, arms spreading on the header. Nekta sat across him and clutches her fidgeting hands together. She don't know why she's feeling so nervous all of the sudden. She never felt nervousness for a very long time and now, she's starting to?

This can't be true. For such a long time, questions about her family's whereabouts has been lost and she's been stubborn enough to search for it. And here she is, almost 10 years later about to get her answers to her questions.

"Sorry for waiting. Emily cannot entertain you for now. She's in the city for some groceries and I'm left here. Don't worry, she'll be back really soon. Help yourselves with some refreshments," Makoto said and set down a tray with onigiri and orange juice, two glasses and a plate of cookies.

"So she is alive," Nekta said, earning a nod from Makoto.

"Emily told me that you'll come someday, but not sure when. She's been saying that over and over again for many of years and never lose hope. She really have faith in your abilities, Nekta," Makoto told her and Nekta's eyebrows furrowed. Dabi noticed it and pulled his arms away from the headboard of the couch and took an onigiri from the tray.

"So Makoto. I heard you've never married. Still planning?" He casually asked as if they'very known each other for years. The woman gave him a side smirk, seemingly enjoying his snarkiness.

"No interesting suitors to woo me. Interested on applying?" She played along and a smirk is evident on the male's mouth.

"Nah. I'm busy hiding so commitment is the last thing in my mind," he casually told her and Makoto laughed. Her ears twitched as if hearing something they don't.

"Someone's coming," she informed them and Nekta looked at her with nervous eyes. Dabi is surprised to see this but decided to keep quiet.

"Is it Emily?"

"No," her nose twitched as she sniffs the air, "It smells different."

"How...?"

"Wait here," Makoto stood up and went to the door. Soon, they heard footsteps on the wooden floor of the porch and Makoto got ready to open the door.

Nekta decided to use her quirk yo sense the possible channeling point she can find and recognizes two, not including Makoto.

"Wait! Makoto!" the dog woman opened the door and tackled the person behind it. As she do so, curses and swears were heard from the victim and multiple explosion happened.

"Get off me, you w*nch! Or I'm going to kill you!"

"Makoto! Stop. He's...with us, apparently," Nekta glared and Makoto stood up and stopped growling at the person. Dabi looked at Nekta and smirked, seeing her pissed off look.

"Why's he not with you earlier?" Makoto asked and a red rope appeared around Nekta's hand and tugged it, making the person stumble like a dog.

"What the heck, B*tch!" Bakugo screamed and Nekta dragged him inside and punched him in the gut as a punishment.

"Because he is not suppose to be here," she growled and Makoto nodded, understanding that they are familiar with each other.

---

Half an hour have passed since Bakugo arrived and Makoto had already told them enough to pass the awkwardness. She's a good hostess for a get together, if Nekta would say.

Soon, there was a knock on the door.

"Makoto. Could you please help me here?" Nekta's eyes widened at the voice as Makoto smiles at her.

"Be there, Emily," she stood up and went to the door. She opened it and Nekta restrained herself from peeking at the door as she clutches her hands together.

Makoto stood by the door, enabling Nekta from seeing the person in front of her. They converse by the door as Makoto take the grocery on the floorboards.

Bakugo, who is sitting beside the teenage girl, noticed her anxiousness and stared at her. He knows Nekta as a girl who is never swayed so seeing her this anxious makes him want to doubt his eyes.

"Hey, Nekta. Get a hold of yourself together," she looked up at him with a surprised expression. Never once had he called her by her name so this was quite bewildering for her.

For a moment, she could feel blood rush up to her cheeks. She ignored it and looked down, hoping her bangs could hide her cheeks from him.

"Oh Emily! There is someone inside looking for you!" There a pause in the atmosphere. Nekta braced herself and slowly changed her hair and eyes back to normal, hoping that Emily could recognize her immediately.

"Take these in the kitchen, please?" The other voice said as Nekta just continue to look at her hands. The fidgetting doesn't want to stop and she suddenly felt cold.

"Alright."

"Thank you."

It seems like the temperature drops drastically for Nekta and she felt sweat dripping from her face.

"You alright?" Her eyes snapped open, not even noticing she closed it and saw Bakugo and Dabi in front of her as they stare at her. She felt something warm on her hands and looking down she saw a hand on top of her cold hands.

It's not burnt and feels a little sweaty. It's Bakugo's. The coldness left her body and the simple gesture of the blond teen warms her cheeks.

"I'm fine. I'm fine," she told them and pulled her hand away from Bakugo. She continues to look down but unbeknownst to her, the two males glares at each other.

"Nekta?" Nekta took a deep breath and look up so come face to face with a woman of an age around early 40s. Her hair is long and gray, tied in a low ponytail and draped on her shoulder. Her eyes are green and dull. Like age had driven the brightness in them. Her skin is tan like Nekta and all these features gave her a sense of familiarity.

The woman took her hands and pulled her up. She smiled and opened her arms towards her as tears brims their eyes.

"It's nice to see you again, honey," she gently said and Nekta inhaled. She let her tears fall and jumped into the woman's arms, sobbing into her chest.

"I missed you, mom! I missed you so much!"

Nekta cries as she hugs her mother, Emily and she hugs her back, crying as well. Dabi and Bakugo just stared at the two in silence, letting them have their moment and having a small smile on their faces after seeing that Nekta finally reunites with her mother after a long 10-year search.

Makoto stood by the entrance to the kitchen, smiling widely at the scene before her. In her point of view, she finally felt relieved to see Emily hug and be with her daughter again. 10 years have passed since they met and she opened up about being a reality fugitive. 10 years have passed since she decided the poor woman and after seeing her wish fulfilled after those years really give her a warm feeling in the chest.

"Look at you!" Emily said, pulling away and caressing her daughter's face as wiping the tears away, "Y-You've grown! Such a beautiful woman you've become, ___!"

"Mom," Nekta's at lost at words. She don't know what to say to keep their moment lasting like this. And if she tells her that what she might've expected of her daughter are all false hope, that'll completely make them feel sad.

Emily sensed her hesitation and pulled her back into a gentle hug.

"I'm sorry for what I've did. I knew you had it hard these past years. I wasn't even there when you needed me. I'm sorry. Because of me, you have to be a villain. You have to do all the dirty works."

For a very long time, she felt regret. Regret of what she did for Villainy. Because of those, her mother blames herself.

"No! Mom! It's not your fault. Don't...don't blame yourself," she pulled away and took a step back away from Emily, "It is my choice to be a villain. It was never your doing. Yes, I was adopted by All-For-One, but he never forced me to be a villain. Not even once."

"Oh, honey," Emily put her hand on the side of Nekta's face and made her look at her. Emily gently kisses her forehead and pulled away, smiling, "I'm just happy you made it out alive and safe."

"So did Sisly! But she's with the heroes at the moment. And she doesn't seem to remember me," Nekta said, sadness trailing her voice. Bakugo and Dabi saw Nekta, for the first time, to show mild emotion and it actually made them feel a little better. At least, the always so strict, impulsive and emotionless Syren can actually express emotions too.

"It's because...I also took her memories when I changed reality," Emily sighed and gently pushed Nekta to sit down. She then decided to acknowledge her two companies in the room, "And I assume they're your friends?"

Nekta looked at the two males and they waited for what Nekta will have to say.

"I think of them more as acquaintances," Emily slightly frowned at this. Nekta noticed and decided to rephrase her sentence, giving out more truth, "They're more of a family, really."

This made the two look at her with bewilderment.

"Well, nice to meet you and thank you for taking care of my daughter," Emily said and Dabi slightly nodded and Bakugo smugly smirked. Nekta's eyes widened at his reaction and acted before he could utter something embarrassing.

"I'm her bo--ACK!"

"So mom!" Nekta cat him off and Emily suspiciously look at her blushing daughter. Then she gave her a teasing comment.

"Oh don't be shy, dear. What was he saying?"

"Mom! Come back to the League with us!" Nekta blurted out, ignoring her teasing. Emily just gave her a heart-hearted smile.

"Nekta, I can't," she softly said then looked at Makoto who seem to know what to do. They watch as she take something from one of the bedrooms. Coming out, she is now holding papers.

"You might've told them about my quirk and I know by now that they want me to be acquainted with you, villains. However, I can't use my quirk anymore."

"What? Why?"

"Your mother used her quirk to the limit the time she saved you. However that was not enough to save all of you," Makoto said and Nekta's eyebrows furrowed.

"What? You mean, mom! You lost your quirk?" Emily nodded.

"Even though I used up my limit, I cannot save your father. I only manage to get you and your sister away," she said and raised her hand to her chest, "I found out when I tried changing the dandelions into roses but failed. I asked the doctors and they told me I don't have a quirk."

"There's two possible reason why you can't use your quirk," Bakugo speak up, making them look at him, "It's either you used up your quirk or you also changed the reality of you having a quirk."

Emily smiled sadly and looked at Nekta who have her eyebrows still furrowed.

"So that means, you can't really change it? You can't make Sisly remember me again?" She almost yelled and Emily painfully nodded.

"I don't fully understand my Quirk's full potential and now that I don't have it anymore, I can't find out, myself."

At that time, Bakugo and Dabi understood Nekta even more. How desperately she wanted to change things and how desperately she wants to eradicate AllMight even more.
