Chapter 16 ~ Serious Talks

The next day, Harry barged into my room and said, "We need to get out of here."

"But we just got here," I replied. "Why do you want to leave now?"

"Because we have to find the other Horcruxes," he told me. "How can we do that if we're sitting on our arses all day?"

"Well, we don't really know where the other Horcruxes are at, Harry," I pointed out. "Besides, when you said we, you were including Ron and Hermione, right?"

"Well, the last time me and you tried to leave, Ron stopped us because he knew that we couldn't find the Horcruxes alone. So yes, I was including Ron and Hermione."

"Good. I need a girl-to-girl talk with Hermione every now and then," I said.

Harry chuckled as I made room for him on the bed. He sat down across from me and gave me a worried look.

"What?" I questioned, giving him a confused look.

"How are you?" he asked. "I heard you crying in Hermione's room yesterday. I just wanted to make sure that you were okay."

"I'm fine, Harry," I told him. "It was kind of emotional. You know, being able to actually talk to Draco face-to-face for the first time in months. But then I had to leave him, like he had to leave me the night Dumbledore died. It was hard. I already miss him."

Harry placed his hand on mine and squeezed it tightly. "I know how you feel. I miss Ginny. I wonder where she's at and hope that she's okay. I think about her all the time and think about what things will be like between us after the war is over."

"Don't you find it weird that your current girlfriend is my ex-girlfriend?" I asked him.

"Well, we're not currently a couple."

"But you were snogging her the day of the wedding."

"So?"

I rolled my eyes. "Forget it. Anyway, don't you find it weird that I snogged her first?"

He laughed. "Well, I have to admit that it was kind of weird at first, but I got over it."

I smiled. "That's good. I don't know how I would feel if you had dated Draco before me."

"Oh, please don't put those thoughts in my head!" Harry groaned.

While I was laughing, Ron and Hermione came in.

"Hey, guys," Ron said to us.

"Hi," we said back.

"So, we need a plan, right?" Hermione asked.

"Right. Anyone have any ideas?" Harry asked.

"Well, I've been thinking about it, and I think we should talk to Griphook," Hermione said. "I mean, what if Bellatrix was hiding something else in her vault other than the sword? Maybe she has something else in there."

"Like what?" Harry asked.

"Oh, I don't know...maybe a Horcrux?" I suggested in a sarcastic tone, rolling my eyes at him. "Maybe You-Know-Who gave her one of the Horcruxes so she could hide it."

"But why Bellatrix?" Ron asked.

"Well, she's one of You-Know-Who's most loyal followers, and she had the sword in her vault at one point because she was asking me how I got it from there," Hermione pointed out. "Max is right. I think we should talk to Griphook. He might be able to get us inside her vault."

"He might?" Ron repeated, sounding worried.

"He will," Harry assured him, nodding his head. "Come on. Let's go talk to him."

The four of us went downstairs and found Bill Weasley in the kitchen with Fleur and Luna.

"We need to speak with the goblin," I told him.

Bill led us back upstairs and inside the room Griphook was staying in. After we walked in the room, Bill left us alone with Griphook, shutting the door behind him.

"How are you?" Harry asked Griphook.

"Alive," he stated, not turning around to face us.

I scratched the back of my head, feeling a bit awkward. "You, uh...you probably don't remember--"

"That I showed you and your brother to your vault the first time you two came to Gringotts?" he finished for me. "You two are famous, Harry and Maxine Potter, even amongst goblins."

"What a shock," I said sarcastically, walking across the room and looking out the window.

"You buried the elf?" he asked.

I nodded my head. "Yeah, we did."

"You two brought me here," he said.

"Yes," Harry spoke up.

"You two are...very unusual," he told us.

"Well, we're not exactly normal, especially Harry over here..."

"Shut up, Max."

"I'm just saying..."

"How did you two come by this sword?" Griphook asked us, pointing at the sword that was leaning against the wall beside me.

"It's complicated," Harry and I said at the same time.

"Why did Bellatrix Lestrange think it should be in her vault at Gringotts?" Harry questioned.

"It's complicated," Griphook replied, mocking us.

"Well, the sword presented itself to us in a moment of need," I answered. "We didn't steal it."

He stared at me for a moment, then spoke up again. "There is a sword in Madam Lestrange's vault that is identical to this one, but it is a fake. It was placed there this past summer."

"And she never suspected it was a fake?" Harry asked.

"The replica is very convincing," the goblin explained. "Only a goblin would recognize that this is the true Sword of Gryffindor."

"Who's the acquaintance?" Hermione asked him, referring to the person who placed the fake sword in Bellatrix's vault.

"A Hogwarts professor. As I understand it, he's now headmaster."

"Snape?" Ron inquired. "He put a fake sword in Bellatrix's vault?"

"Wait, why would Snape, of all people, put a fake sword in Bellatrix's vault?" I asked. "I thought him and Bellatrix were on the same side."

"There are more than a few curious things in the vaults at Gringotts," the goblin said to the four of us.

"And in Madam Lestrange's vault as well?" I piped up, raising my eyebrows.

He stared at me. "Perhaps."

"We need to get into one of the vaults at Gringotts," Harry blurted out, walking up beside me.

"That is impossible," Griphook said.

"Alone, yes. But with you, no," I said.

"Why should I help you two?" he asked us.

"We have gold. Lots of it," Harry said.

"We do?" I asked in a whisper.

"I have no interest in gold," he told us.

"Then what?" I asked.

He stared at the two of us for a brief moment, then pointed at the sword behind us. "That."

I groaned. "You've got to be kidding me," I mumbled under my breath.

*******

"I can't believe you gave the sword to him," I hissed at Harry as we left Griphook's room and waited for Fleur to come out of Ollivander's room.

"Well, I had to do it," Harry whispered back.

"Are you thinking that there's a Horcrux in Bellatrix's vault?" Hermione asked.

"Well, she was terrified when she thought we'd been in there. She kept asking what else we'd taken. There has to be a Horcrux in there. Let's find it, kill it, and then we'll be one step closer to killing him," Harry said.

"What happens when we find it?" Ron spoke up. "How are we supposed to destroy it now that you've given the sword to Griphook?"

"Yeah, how are we supposed to destroy it now that you've given the sword to Griphook?" I repeated.

"I'm still working on that part," he said.

Suddenly, the door opened behind us. "He's weak," Fleur told us.

We nodded our heads and went inside the room. Ollivander was sitting in a chair, looking up at the door.

"Yes?" he said.

"Mr. Ollivander, we need to ask you a few questions," Harry said.

"Anything, you two, anything," he replied.

Harry went up to him. "Would you mind identifying this wand?" he asked, handing a wand to him and sitting down on his bed, followed by me sitting beside him. "We need to know if it's safe to use."

He studied the wand carefully. "Walnut. Dragon heartstring. Twelve and three-quarter inches. Unyielding. This belonged to Bellatrix Lestrange." He gave the wand back to Harry. "Treat it carefully," he added.

"What about this one?" Harry asked, handing him another wand.

He did the same with the second wand, studying it and feeling it. "Hawthorn. Unicorn hair. Ten inches. Reasonably pliant. This was the wand of Draco Malfoy."

My heart skipped a beat when he said his name. "Was?" I repeated. "Is it not his wand anymore?"

"Well, perhaps not, if you won it from him," Ollivander answered. "I sense its allegiance has changed." He handed the wand back to Harry.

Harry placed it down beside him on the bed and looked back at Ollivander. "You talk to wands as if they have feelings. As if they can think."

"The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter," he whispered, smiling at him. "That much has always been clear to those who have studied wandlore like me."

"So what do you know about the Deathly Hallows?" I asked.

Ollivander's smile faded. "It is rumored that there are three: The Elder Wand, the Cloak of Invisibility, and the Resurrection Stone. Together, they make one Master of Death. But few truly believe that such objects exist."

"Do you believe they exist, sir?" I questioned.

"Well, I see no reason to put stock into an old wives' tale," he answered, chuckling a little.

"You're lying," I said. His smile went away again. "You know one of them exists. You told him about the Elder Wand and where he could go looking for it."

Ollivander looked down at us. "He tortured me. Besides, I only conveyed rumors. There's no telling whether he will find it or not."

I looked at Harry, then back at Ollivander. "He has found it, sir," I said, making him look up at me.

"We'll let you rest," Harry said, standing up and heading for the door.

I followed him. Ron opened the door and was about to leave when Ollivander said something else, making us turn around.

"He's after you two," he told us. "If it's true, what you say, and he has the Elder Wand, I'm afraid you two don't really stand a chance."

"Well, I suppose Max and I will have to kill him before he gets the chance to do it himself," Harry said.

With that, the four of us walked out of his bedroom.

I thought about something when Ollivander was identifying the wands, specifically Draco's wand. He said that the wand had changed its allegiance. All of a sudden, I gasped at what I just realized.

"What is it, Max?" Harry asked me.

"We need to talk," I replied in a whisper. "It's important."

I led him inside his bedroom, which was the first bedroom that I saw when I realized something about Draco's wand. I closed the door behind me, then turned to face my brother.

"Okay, what did you want to talk about?" he asked me.

"I just thought of something. If the owner of the Elder Wand is defeated, then the wand changes allegiance to the other person."

Harry thought about it, but shot me a confused look. "When you say 'defeated--'"

"I mean disarming," I said. "The night Dumbledore died, before Snape and the other Death Eaters showed up, Draco disarmed Dumbledore."

"So the Elder Wand belongs to him now!" Harry exclaimed.

"Well, it did belong to him. Not anymore," I said.

"What do you mean?"

"Didn't you hear Ollivander? The wand changed allegiance," I explained to him.

"I thought Draco's wand changed allegiance," Harry said.

"But his wand wasn't the only one that belonged to him, Harry. The Elder Wand belonged to him, too. But it doesn't now because we snatched his wand from him back at Malfoy Manor. But when one wand changes allegiance, and the owner has more than one wand, then all of the wands change allegiance."

"So that means his wand and the Elder Wand doesn't belong to him anymore," he said. I nodded my head. "Brilliant."

"No, it's not brilliant!" I raised my voice. "This is why I'm the smart twin because you can't seem to realize what I'm trying to say here!"

"Well, what are you trying to say?" he asked, raising his voice as well.

"Back at Malfoy Manor, Draco was 'defeated.' His wand and the Elder Wand changed allegiance. We snatched his wand from him at the same time."

Harry finally realized what I was trying to say. "We 'defeated' Draco. So that means--"

"The wand belongs to one of us," I finished for him. "The question is, who does it belong to?"

A/N: Hiiii!

So I wrote this in a practice room in the band room while I was with my friends. We were supposed to write a play for Creative Writing, but I was writing this, lol. XD

Anyways, who do you think the wand belongs to? Let me know! :D I'll try to update more this weekend. Hopefully I won't have any homework this weekend, but I do have stuff to do tonight and Saturday.

Comment, vote, :D
