Chapter 7: Molida Island
(2690 words)
(y/n)'s POV
Leaving the control room after Link had fallen asleep. We had dropped anchor in the ocean since it was late. We couldn't pull into the harbor this late at night. The locals would be pretty pissed off for being woken up by a steam ship. At least i would. I stepped out onto the deck as Linebeck was leaning onto the bow of the ship, his leg on the prow.
Standing next to him I looked at the stars with him. "You've seen a lot of treasure right? What treasure was the most beautiful?" I asked as he leaned over to me. "The most beautiful treasure I've ever seen? Probably the Regal Ring. it's something that I've always found astonishing. Although, I've never managed to find one." he said as he looked at me.
Nodding gently I looked at the stars again. Maybe I could find one and give it to him, to thank him for letting us use his ship. Leaning on the rail I felt eyes on me. Turning to look behind me I saw Linebeck looking at me. Tilting my head he hummed gently.
"What?" I asked as he sighed gently. "Do you dance?" he asked. Turning to face him I looked at him for a moment. "Did you just ask me, if i dance?" I asked.
Shuffling on his feet he looked at the floor and tilted his head. "Forget it, it's dumb." he said as he went to walk by me. Standing in front of him, I put my hands on his chest. "Dance with me" I said. He looked down at me and smiled slowly. Putting a hand on my waist and another in my free hand, we started to dance slowly. I wasn't the greatest, but it was easier with Linebeck.
He pulled me closer to him, letting my head rest on his shoulder. Wrapping my arms around his shoulders, his hands rested on my hips. Leaning his head on mine. We danced in circles around the deck. Moving to the rythim of the waves that crashed against the ship. I had gotten lost in the moment with him. Something I rarely did with anyone else. I felt him move his head, causing me to look up at him.
Looking at his green eyes in the low lightening, I sunk deeper into the moment. My heart, beating a little harder. Looking at his lips I felt myself wanting them. Wanting them against my lips, against my body. Bitting my lip a little i looked at him to see him start to lean down a little.
Gasping as our feet hit a puddle and we fell onto the deck. Groaning a little as i sat up, I looked around a little. I watched Linebeck sit up and rub his head. I had landed on him. He looked up at me for a moment before we both started to turn red. Scrambling to our feet we said whatever came to mind.
"Goodnight!"
"Yes, well. Goodnight!" he said.
Nodding as i looked back at him, to see him awkwardly picking up a mop and starting to get rid of the puddle. I jumped when I saw Ciela in my face. "What were you doing with Linebeck?" she asked.
Waving my hand as i walked around the fairy I shook my head. "Nothing, don't worry about it"
"It didn't look like nothing from here, do you like him?"
Turning to look at her I made a motion for her to cut it out. "Stop it!"
She crossed her arms and smirked. "Don't give me that look. There's nothing going on with us!"
"Liar. I saw the way you look at each other, how you two almost kissed while you were dancing. Then how embarrassed the both of you got when you landed on him. Or how he had a dream about you."
"What? He had a dream about me?"
She nodded. "He kept mumbling your name"
"When was that?"
"When you were asleep for that day in a half." Hearing that I couldn't help but smile. Knowing someone was worried about you and then hearing they had a dream about you, does sound pretty nice. Looking at the floor I shook my head, "I think I'm going to go to bed," I said. She nodded and went back over to Link. Laying down I laid there and thought for a moment, before falling asleep.
~That Morning~
Feeling something jumping on my bed, I felt tiny hands on my shoulders. Moving a little bit as I wanted to sleep more, I turned a little. That was before I felt someone shaking me.
"(y/n)! Wake up! We're here!"
Opening my eyes, I saw the boy clad in green. Sitting up a little and humming gently, I rubbed my eyes. Looking down to the boy that was on my lap, I smiled a little.
"We're on Molida Island, Linebeck tried to chase the Ghost Ship when we saw it but, it didn't work." Nodding, I stood up and put the boy down.
"I'll be up in a minute" I said the boy nodded and went up the stairs. Getting up, I got ready to wander the isle. Walking out of the stairs and onto the deck, I looked around to see Cieal interrogating Linebeck. He looked nervous, only to dismiss her as soon as he saw me. Looking at him he waved his hand around.
"Don't be ridiculous! Why would I like a kid like her?"
Feeling a sting in my chest, I watched as he walked by me. Going below deck. I looked at Ciela and Link. She flew over to me and crossed her arms. "What was that about?"
"I tried to get Linebeck to say that he likes you, it backfired comepletely." she said and I nodded a little. Glancing to the Control Room I followed Link and Ciela onto the island. Walking around the small harbor entrance, I found a slate. Kneeling to read it I tilted my head as Link talked to a little girl in red.
Way farerer's words 1: I tried sailing through the foggy passage in the north sea. Tried and failed. I made my way through the fog to the north sea, where I first spied an island! What a place, ravaged by winds! How could I name it anything but the Isle of Gust.
Walking into a nearby house with Link, we found a man in a wife beater. Walking over to talk to him, he said that his father would always talk about the fog and seeing the Isle of Gust. Evidently there's a specific route that we have to use in order to not get lost. Looking at Link he stared at the man. Behind the house there's a cave that we might find something in.
Turning to leave we made our way to the door. Leaving and turning the corner a lady in a red violet dress spoke to us.
"You mustn't go in there. Dangerous monsters have been seen in there lately! Now be good kids, don't go anywhere near it."
"Your son told us to go in there in look for some information."
"Hmm? Well if my son said it was all right. Then go on in, but be careful. Don't do anything too dangerous!"
Letting us go, we went into the cave. Running around the corner and up a small thing of stairs, we hopped over some gaps before landing at an area. Going towards a door, a large fish man jumped from the water. Grabbing the boomerang I hit him in the back with it and stunned him. Link ran around the back of him and slashed away.
Once he was defeated we picked up a rupee and the door opened. Running through it we ran around the cave a bit before I grabbed a bomb flower and threw it at a crack in the wall. Going to the chest, I found a shovel in it. Picking it up I turned around and looked at the table. Walking over I sat down and started to read.
I'm writing this while in a private space, I call my hideaway. Whenever I'm here, I find myself utterly at peace. And it will stay that way only as I know that no one would interrupt me. Now, I do have one more hideaway. But no one will ever find it. It's under the spot that the lines from my tablets intersect. It's brilliant if I do say so myself.
Laying the map out on the desk, I looked at it. Marking the two stones I had found earlier onto it. Rolling it up I made my way back to Link, who I found blowing up a small barricade. Turning to look at me he smiled gently. "We have to find the rest of the Wayfarer's Tablets. We already have two of them"
He nodded and we ran up the stairs and out onto the northern side of the island. Looking to the right there was another tablet. Walking over I marked it on the map before I stooped to read it.
"But the Isle of Gust was one of my many islands beyond that foggy passage. I will see them all! It's my life's dream! It's the only way to live!"
Standing I hummed gently before I made my way to the east side of the island. Seeing the tablet Link ran over to read it. I looked over his shoulder as I read it as well. What a discovery! On the Isle of Gust, a temple reached into the sky itself! But a temple to what? For whom? My curiosity must be satisfied.
Drawing the lines between the 4 stones, we ran to the spot that it intersected. Using the shovel we found a hole. Dropping into it, we looked around. Finding another chest I let Link open it as i looked at the picture. Drawing the path on the map, I stood up and smiled gently. Tapping the pencil on the desk. Standing I looked at Link.
"Let's get back to the ship. We need to set sail to the Isle of Gust." I said. Getting back into town I sighed as I let Link run off for the harbor. I looked over to see him talking with Linebeck. Link went onto the ship and I saw Linebeck look at me. He turned to follow Link onto the ship and i sighed gently.
Getting into the shop, I saw a couple of potions and a guitar. Raising a brow I looked at it before i bought it. My money and Link's money were separate, so I could spend mine on what I wanted. Leaving the store, I went back to the harbor. Linebeck and Link were getting ready to set sail and I walked below deck. Setting the guitar on my bed I sat down gently.
Didn't like me huh? Then what was the dream? What was his nervousness? What the fuck was with the dancing?! At this point I felt like he was messing with me. That I didn't mean anything to him. Why did I feel this way? Why did it matter to me so damn much? I would be leaving for my own world after this journey so it didn't matter. He would never see me again. I would never see him.
Laying down on the bed I sighed deeply. It was going to be a long trip. Standing I decided to sit on the deck with my new guitar. Walking past Link who was going in for a nap and Linebeck that was in the Control Room as he was getting the ship ready to go. I sat on the deck with the guitar on my lap. It wasn't long until we set sail for the northwestern sea.
It got dark quickly. Listening to the gentle waves of the ocean on the ship, I sighed gently. Plucking the strings on the guitar, I hummed gently. Knowing the Control Room door was closed. Playing the guitar gently I hummed before I started to sing.
Captain, Salute!
He's strong, he's bold.
He's on a quest for gold
The best captain around, or so I'm told!
But all I see: A coward shaking knees
Is this the man who conquered mighty seas?
But for some reason I put my faith in this guy.
He might just save my life today!
I don't know if he tells the truth or a lie.
I still trust him either way!
A man of greed
Yes, gold is all he needs
An ordinary sailor.
Yes, indeed!
Not smart, not bright!
Would rather run than fight!
Or hides a real hero deep inside?
'Cause for some reason I put my faith in this guy
He might just save my life today
I don't know if he tells a truth or a lie
I still trust him either way!
Stopping as I was finished I sighed and let my head rest on the rail I was leaning against. I don't know why I played Linebeck's theme. Especially since he's in the control room. But if the door is closed he probably didn't hear me. Not over the ocean at least.
Linebeck's POV
I was working in the back of the Control Room and going over the route we had to take. Hearing something my ears perked up. I had left the door to the control room, slightly ajar so I could hear for any baddies, showing up.
He's strong, he's bold. He's on a quest for gold. The best captain around or, so I'm told
Raising a brow as I turned around, I saw (y/n) sitting on the deck with a guitar. Playing a song that fit me, perfectly? That was odd. I've never heard that song before, but it sounded so... familiar. Moving quietly to the door, I pulled it open a little, hearing her better.
Not smart, not bright! Would rather run that fight! Or hides a real hero, deep inside?
Sliding down the wall I was leaning on I let my head hit the wood. I'm too much of a coward to fight anything. That's why I stay here on the ship. (y/n) leaves with Link everyday, and she doesn't have anything but her wit. Looking at my hands as I sighed gently. What kind of a man was I? I couldn't defend myself in a battle, let alone save others I cared about.
Could I? Would I be willing to give my life to protect the one I love? Before I could answer mind went right back to her. The one on the deck, singing about me. Feeling myself smile involuntarily I rubbed my face as I tried to get it to stop.
She over heard me talking to Ciela about her. Link wouldn't tell a soul, mostly because he's mute. But he can keep secrets. I had said that i didn't like her to Ciela when I saw her but honestly, it's the complete opposite. I don't know why, but I want to be around her all the time. I feel different when she's close to me.
I'm sure she hates me now, because I had to lie instead of facing my feelings for her. Running a hand in my hair, I stood and looked back out the window. She was sitting there with the guitar on her. She looked like she was upset. Only it was too dark for me to see her completely. Watching her like that, made my heart burn.
She got up and I quickly made myself look busy. Blankly staring at the maps that were behind me. She walked through the control room and right down the stairs to the lower part of the ship. Sighing deeply I put the map down and leaned on the table. I could feel my heart throbbing. All i wanted to do was hold her, and make sure that she was all right. But I couldn't. She probably hated me, and everything we've done together in the past few days, would be washed away in the sea of time.
