Chapter 2: A Change of Attire

"Here are some clothes," Laurance handed me a pile of clothes he gathered from his wardrobe. I stared at him awkwardly, not moving. "Hey, can you talk?"

"Yes, I can speak," my voice monotone.

"Okay," Laurance dragged out the word. "Well, there's a bathroom just across the hall you can change in, Garroth."

"Thank you, kind sir," I nodded.

"Dude, you're weird," Laurance shook his head, opening his room door. He pointed across the hall, at a room. "Go over there, and get changed. Then, I can show you the guest room."

"Many thanks. Oh, I must ask, where will I be able to speak to the Lord of this village?"

Laurance looked like he was about to burst out laughing, though I was unsure why. I was asking an honest question. He shook his head again, stepping out of his room.

"Sure thing, ya weirdo," Laurance opened up the bathroom door. "Go on, Prince Garroth."

I balled my fists, storming into the bathroom. I stopped right before entering, turning to glare at this Laurance fellow.

"Don't you dare call me a prince. I refuse to be referred to, in that regard," I breathed in, regaining my composure. Why did I get so worked up, after being called a Prince? I am so confused... "Many thanks, Laurance. I appreciate the hospitality."

"Whatever, ya creep. Just get changed," Laurance walked off, leaving me alone.

I stood there for a moment, still slightly confused. After a moment, I went into the room. And before my mind could be harmed by any weird objects that may be present, I decided to throw on the clothes that hath been given to me, by Laurance.

Before changing, I stared at my reflection. My blonde locks stuck out, and my cyan-coloured eyes were tired and dull- from lack of sleep. I looked anything but presentable.

Removing the rest of the armour, and setting my sword on a counter, I managed to slip on the outfit that hath been given to me. It relatively fit, but was definitely not a form of attire you'd ever catch me wearing, if I were back home.

Home...

Phoenix Drop...

Maybe if I keep talking about irrelevant inquiries, my memory will jolt back to me.

Perhaps...

It's the only option I have left.

~~~
"Yo, Garroth! You're looking much better now," Dante greeted me. "Would you like a little bit more to eat."
"If that is alright, I would indeed appreciate it," I replied. "Thank you, for your graciousness. Honestly, I'm not sure if I would've been able to last, if it weren't for you."
"Hey, it's no problem, man," Dante hit my shoulder, which was such a confusing action. "I'm always up for helping people who need it. Feel free to treat yourself to anything you see."
"Not that I mind or anything, but why are you being so helpful to a complete stranger? I know why we do it, our village is always up for helping people...but why are you like this to me?"
"Because Dante thinks your hot," a voice chimed in, from behind me.
It sounded like Laurance. Damn, I didn't even sense his presence. Perhaps he is a rogue, or a sly knight. Actually, I don't know anybody here's classes. Perhaps I shall ask them later.
"L-Laurance!" Dante jumped, his dark blues widening. I turned around, facing the brunette "What the Hell is that supposed to mean?!"
Laurance shrugged, walking to our side. "Dante, what other reason would you have, to bring a, pretty freaking hot, guy to our house- if you weren't attracted to him, in some form?"
Did Laurance just call me...'hot'?!
"Because I'm trying to be a nice person?!" Dante argued, crossing his arms. Suddenly, a small smirk appeared on his face. "Hey, I didn't know you swung that way, Laurance."
Laurance shrugged again, hopping on the couch. He pulled out an apple from...somewhere. Honestly, it looked like it just came out of nowhere. I stood there in confusion, unsure at what had started this immature banter between the two.
"What? Can a man not comment on another man's attractiveness, without automatically being labelled as gay?"
"No, he can't," Dante remarked.
What the Hell are these two talking about?
"Have you talked to Travis, about Mr. Dreamboat staying with us?"
My name is Garroth.
"Yes, I have," Dante replied, sighing.
They got over their argument rather fast. I expected swords to be drawn, and a complete bloodbath to be taken place. How peculiar the villagers of Mystreet are.
Mystreet...I have never heard of such a village. From what I can recall through my memory loss, it hasn't been accounted for in any history books or maps.
How did I get here..?
"Laurance, can you do me a favour?"
"Yeah, what is it?" Laurance had grabbed some rectangular device, pressing the buttons on it. It seemed to be having no effect on anything, and just appeared to be a useless toy.
"Take Garroth out on the town. Buy him something nice to wear, and a bit of food."
My eyes widened at the kind offer. Maybe I was wrong to judge Dante so harshly, at first glance. He was extremely kind, for a stranger.
"No, please. That isn't necessary. I do not ask of you, to spend gold on me. It is too much," I denied his offer.
"I insist, Garroth. It's fine, don't worry about it," Dante reassured me, glancing at Laurance.
Laurance stood up, slightly glaring. "Is this your way of trying to prove to Vylad, that you're a good person?!"
Vylad...
That name is extremely familar. Gah! Why can't I remember?!
"Pfft, no!" Dante stuck his tongue out, in Laurance's general direction.
Loud banging sounds echoed throughout the room, before a sudden halt. We all turned to face the perpetrator- who was the white-haired fellow... Who I can't remember the name of, for the life of me. I think it begins with a 'T'...
"Hey, Dante, Laurance, Scary Dude, what's going on down here? A party I wasn't invited to?" The odd man said, taking a seat on the couch.
"Travis! Laurance thinks that the guy I brought home is hot!" Dante whined, running to...Travis' side.
Well, now I remember his name. He's just very forgettable, apparently.
"Laurance, you think Scary Dude is hot? I mean, I understand where you're coming from...but still," Travis rose an eyebrow at Laurance, before looking me up and down.
"Pardon me, but I have a name," I interrupted their conversation.
"See, dude! Your voice is terrifying. You sound like something straight out of an anime!"
"An...ime?" I rose an eyebrow. All of these unfamiliar words are taunting me.
Travis gasped, holding a hand over his heart. I stared at him in confusion.
"You poor, poor, innocent child. You have not been blessed with the gift from Irene, that is anime," Travis stood up, walking in front of me.
He grabbed my hand, bringing it to his heart. He wiped away a fake tear. I pulled my hand away from him, glaring slightly. What is this guy's problem?
"Travis, leave Garroth alone," Dante intervened, pushing us apart. "You're gonna make Laurance jealous."
"Dude!" Laurance balled his fists, storming over to us. "Why did you turn this against me?!"
"Laurance, take Garroth out- please. I'll allow you to use my money, so you won't have to spend a dime," Dante smiled, looking in between us.
"Whatever! Just give me the damn cash!"
What a weird group of people...
~~~

"So, Garroth, what do you want to eat?" Laurance asked, walking by my side.

However, I was much too in shock to pay him any mind. I was mesmerized by these vessels that littered the area.

"Hello~ Earth to Garroth~" A hand waved in front of my face.

"Hm?" I shook my head, turning to face the brunette. He narrowed his baby blues at me, dropping his hand.

"Weirdo, what do you like to eat?"

"Uh..," I pondered for a moment. "What goods do your nearest merchants have available?"

"Okay, weirdo, listen up," Laurance grabbed my shoulders, looking me dead in the eyes. "We aren't living in some medieval, or fantasy, era. This is real life. Snap out of it."

"Eh...pardon?"

"Gah! You're hopeless!" Laurance threw his hands into the air, dramatically sighing. "Whatever, what do you want? Some pizza, or something?"

"Pizza..? I have not heard of such a delight. Is it a common supply among this region?" I brought a finger to my chin, staring off in a general direction.

"You. Are. Hopeless."

Laurance shook his head, dragging his hands down his face. After a moment of silence, he began walking again. I followed after him.

"So, Laurance, tell me about yourself," I put on a forced smile, catching up to his side.

"Huh?" Laurance looked at me, stopping in his tracks once again. "What do you mean?"

"I would like to learn more about you, and the other two as well," I stopped, turning to face him once more. "I'll also tell you, what I remember about myself."

"What you remember about yourself?"

"I am suffering from memory loss. I have no recollection of events prior, to your friend Dante finding me."

"So...you are suffering from amnesia?"

Amnesia..?

"Eh...sure," I nervously laughed. "But, uh...I'd like to know more about you."

"Uh...I guess so. Whatever," Laurance started making his way towards a giant building, and I followed again. "So, you know my name. I'm Laurance- not gonna give you a last name, because you are still a stranger. I live with my roommates, Dante and Travis, on a street with a bunch of my other friends. And, that's about all I'm going to tell you...because I hate you."

Hate me?

"Pardon? Why do you hate me? You don't even know me."

"Because, you are some kind of weird nerd. Not funny, when you're trying to be serious...and you come along. With your whole 'fantasy' act. Dante, Travis, and I are being kind enough to let you stay with us, so you should take that into consideration. But anyways," Laurance gave me a brief glance, "tell me about yourself, weirdo."

"My name is Garroth," I growled. "I...can't remember much more than that. I remember...I had a family, from my home village of O'Khasis. But, I can't remember their names. I remember... moving to the village of Phoenix Drop, and becoming the Head Guard. Then...I can't remember anything from there."

Laurance sighed once again, tugging at his hair. I cocked my head, at the sight before me.

"I give up with you, Weirdo. Let's just go buy some groceries, and find you some clothes- that way I can see you out of my sight. I can't believe Dante is letting you stay with us..."

What did I say?

~~~
"Just pick out an outfit. I am not going to deal with the situation we had in the grocery store," Laurance glared at me, his hands on his hips.
"I have no idea why, you and Sir Dante, request of me, to change out of my armour set. I find it a ridiculous rule, that your Lord hath set," I rested my case, crossing my arms.
Laurance groaned, hitting his face with the palm of his hand. What a strange gesture. He took in a deep breath, giving me a smile. Huh?
"Just pick out something, please. The sooner you pick clothes, the sooner you can give me back mine, and then...I can avoid the Hell out of you. Because, you are obnoxious, and annoying," Laurance calmly stated. He pointed in an off direction, holding his bizarre smile. "Over there, is men's clothing. Find something your size, and over there..," he pointed in another direction, in which I took note of, "...is the changing room. Change in there, then come find me at the entrance. Okay?"
"Okay..," I rubbed my arm, taking in the directions he had given me.
"Good. Now, go on," Laurance began to walk back towards the front gates...or entrance, I guess. "And, for the love of Irene, don't cause any trouble. Please. I'm begging you."
"Alright..."
Laurance sighed a sigh of relief, continuing his walk. I began my own walk, towards the first direction he told me to go in. I stared in awe, at the large quantity of attire that hath been put out.
People were searching through these shelves and racks, that held the clothing. I prodded at some piles, unsure what to do in this situation. Where was the merchant?
"Excuse me, Sir...do you need any help..?" A soft voice asked.
I turned around, to be faced with a short girl. She had dark black hair, with a giant violet bow. She looked up at me, a bright smile on her tan-coloured face. Her eyes were sparkling, hazel colour. She looked oddly familiar.
The girl was accompanied by a rather tall man, who also had dark hair. His eyes were a dark gray colour, and his skin was a slightly darker tone. He didn't seem familiar at all.
"Yes, M'Lady, I actually do need help," I admitted. "Uh...may I ask who you are?"
"My name's Aphmau! This here is my boyfriend Aaron," the girl named Aphmau, gestured to the extremely tall man- who greeted me with a wave. "So, wat'cha need help with?"
"Nice to meet you, Aphmau. I am Sir Garroth. I was sent here, to find a change of clothing, by...the people who are generously housing me. They go by Dante; Travis; and...Laurance," I groaned slightly at the mention of Laurance's name. He was a nuisance. "And they hath requested of me, to change my attire."
"Wait, wait, wait...Dante, Travis, and Laurance are letting you stay with them?!" Aphmau stared at me wide-eyed. I nodded, and Aphmau smiled even brighter. "I didn't know that! Are those Laurance's clothes, you're in? Oh, c'mon, Aaron and I will help you find you find a new outfit. Right, Aaron?"
The man, who goes by Aaron, nodded. Aphmau grabbed my hand, dragging me down a hallway-esque area. She let me go, wandering off. Aaron stood next to me, giving me a genuine, warm smile.
"So, Garroth, was it? Sorry about Aphmau. She can get a bit...excited at times," he let out a hardy laugh, hitting my shoulder.
"I-I can see that..," I bit my lip, holding my head. The annoying headache had returned.
Why is that girl so familiar? She's even more recognizable, than the others! Dante, and that Katelyn girl, looked familiar. Travis, Aaron, and that...Laurance, aren't as recognizable. But...
"Garroth~" Aphmau sang, skipping down, towards me. Wow, what a perky girl. She held a small pile of wearables in her hands. "I found something that would look amazing on you~! Here, try this on."
Aphmau basically shoved the clothes into my arms. Aaron stood beside her, shaking his head lightly. I silently thanked them, going to where this 'changing room' was pointed out to me, by Laurance.
The Mystreet villagers are such peculiar people...
