Chapter 1
A wooden door bursts open. "Ahhhh!" A raven haired boy stretches his arms high above his head, yawning so hard that he is forced to shut his eyes. He blinks sleepily before shaking it off with excitement. "So..." He stands proudly with his arms on his waist before a half-occupied bedroom. "Who's lucky enough to get the privilege of being my dorm mate?"
Pink hair pops up from behind the already employed twin bed, where the person had been working at a small desk on his computer. The person glared at the source of the intrusion through thick glasses. The newcomer flinched.
Shaking it off, he walks over to his new living buddy and offers his hand. "Yuichiro Hyakuya! I hope we can get along!" He laughs cheekily.
"Likewise." The man stands up, his towering height a bit intimidating. He slaps Yuichiro's hand away. "I'm Shiho Kimizuki. Now, if you don't mind, I was trying to get some classwork done before Monday."
Yuichiro freezes with distaste. He sighs frustratedly, turning around to leave. He waves his hand around as he goes. "Yeah, whatever, buddy. I'll come back later. Hopefully, you'll be more willing to get along by then."
Shiho jumps out of his seat angrily. "Why, you-!" The wooden door slams shut before he can finish.
Yuichiro lets out another deep sigh. "Well, isn't my roommate just pleasant?" He mumbles angrily as he walks down the hall. Just then, only a couple of doors down from his room and on the opposite side of the hall, a smaller boy pops out in front of Yuichiro. Recognizing that he is new, the brunette stops abruptly. A smile spreads across his face, his lime green eyes lighting up. "I'm Yoichi! It's a pleasure to meet you!" He sticks out his hand kindly.
Yuichiro shakes it gratefully. "The name's Yuichiro, but you can just call me Yuu!"
Yoichi nods at the invitation. "Which room is yours?" Yuichiro points down the hall, grunting at the thought of his unfavorable sleeping buddy. Yoichi perks up in surprise. "Oh, with Kimizuki-senpai!"
"Yeah, that guy." Yuu exhales dramatically. "And why would you bother addressing that four eyes as 'senpai'? He's done nothing to deserve the title."
"Well, uh..." Yoichi tugs at a loose strand of hair, looking off to the side. He laughs awkwardly. "Did no one really tell you? Kimizuki-senpai is in charge of our living area."
Yuu snickers, looking away a bit embarrassedly. "Not like he's deserving."
Yoichi chuckles nervously. "Well, he's nice if you get to know him."
Yuu mumbles exasperatedly, "I'll have plenty of time for that."
Yoichi looks around as if to find some sort of excuse to escape the conversation, which seems to be steadily growing in awkwardness. He looks down at the computer bag in his hand. "Ah, uh! I've got to get working on my essay! I'll be in the library if you need me for anything!" With that, he dashes off and disappears around the corner of the living hall.
Yuichiro waves him off nonchalantly. A thought then hits him. I could have asked him for a tour of the place. Yuu searches his body for his belongings and hopefully a map before realizing that he dumped his bags in his dorm before stomping out, and no way is he going back there. All he has is his phone, wallet, and his dorm key, all resting in his left pocket. Yuu groans. "Well, may as well find my way around the campus myself."
After a couple of hours of exploring and a quick stop for dinner, Yuichiro makes it back to his room, exhausted. He pulls his dorm key out of his pocket and unlocks the door hastily before putting the key back in his pocket. Shiho isn't there, to Yuichiro's relief. He still hopes for the sake of his sanity that they will get along eventually, but throwing sleepiness into the mix of their heated arguing isn't the best idea. It's around nine o'clock, and for a day full of traveling and exploring, that feels really late. Yuichiro will have to unpack tomorrow.
For now, Yuichiro opens the one of his two suitcases and pulls out his toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo and soap, a towel, and a change of pajamas. He showers and gets ready for bed uneventfully. Luckily, the washroom down the hall is pretty sanitary and the shower stalls are fairly private. Yuu gathers his belongings and heads back towards his room wearing a tee shirt and baggy basketball shorts. He sees Shiho standing by their shared door and twisting his key around in it. He looks up at Yuu, preparing to say something possibly nasty.
Not feeling up for it, Yuu prevents it by saying as few words as possible. "I'm going to bed." Shiho finishes opening the door and walks in, Yuichiro following close behind. He locks the door up before plopping his stuff back into his suitcase and grabs a blanket. Yuichiro promptly collapses in his bed. Properly making it is going to have to be another thing for tomorrow. Good thing he does not have classes yet.
Yuichiro wakes up at about six o'clock in the morning, not at all used to the time that the sun rises in this new area. When he sits up in bed, he realizes that Shiho is still asleep and that both his phone and blanket had fallen to the ground. Yuichiro must have kicked them both off in his sleep. He reaches down for his phone, clicking the top button to take a peek at the time. He blinks a few times to check that he had registered the time correctly before letting his phone slip to the ground once more.
Well, since the light is out and he hadn't really taken the time to do so yesterday, Yuichiro explores the tiny room. Two desks are in the back. A dresser is in between. The two beds, the frames a bit mismatched, are in front of the desks. The white wall of the dorm extends into the room in front of the beds, leaving a small area to walk through, creating a tiny open area in front of the door.
There really is not that much to look at in the room, and Yuichiro would really hate to wake the slumbering beast beside him by trying to unpack or anything of the sort. He decides to make a quick stop to the bathroom and drink out of the sink or something. Water bottles were not something that Yuichiro thought to pack. He travels down the hall, the lights always on no matter what time it is, before reaching the men's washroom.
When Yuu walks in, it seems almost completely unoccupied. Nothing is really in use. The only sign of life that Yuichiro can hear is the quiet and slow dripping of the shower, probably only just shut off. Someone is still inside the stall, perhaps throwing their clothes on. Yuichiro walks over to a sink, twisting a blue nob and bending down to drink from the tap. As he lifts his head up and turns off the water, Yuichiro hears the soft padding of footsteps.
Yuichiro looks towards the sound. His mouth nearly drops at the sight. Before him is another college student who looks to be only one year older than Yuichiro. He's wearing slightly tight fitting grey jeans and a white tee shirt with darker spots from stray water. A small white towel is wrapped around the student's pale neck. His neck-length blond locks are curled slightly from the weight of the shower water and the person's ears are just barely poking out. He looks at Yuichiro with crystal blue eyes that are both piercing and blank at the same time for only a split second before their gazes are torn apart and the stranger walks away.
Yuichiro stands frozen as the other exits the bathroom, for some reason finding it too awkward to walk out with him. Yuichiro replays the scene in his head over and over again until he feels like it is a safe time to leave, and leave he does. He goes back to his room, letting his feet carry him there because in his mind, he can't think of a better place to go. Yuichiro walks in quietly, not wanting to wake his ever-slumbering roomie. He kicks off his shoes and slinks into his bed, forcing himself to fall back asleep.
"Wake up, idiot!" Yuichiro wakes up to having a pillow slapped against his face multiple times. Still half-asleep, Yuichiro reflexively turns over, getting a face full of his own pillow in the process, making it hard to breath. He mumbles unenthusiastically. "C'mon, if you don't get up now, you'll miss breakfast!" Yuichiro groans in response. "Fine, whatever. Not like I'll care if you starve."
Yuichiro turns back around and shoves Shiho's merciless pillow off of himself and gets up and out of his bed. "Alright, alright. Let me just throw some clothes on."
"Okay, but be quick." Shiho, already in his clothes for the day, turns around while crossing his arms to let Yuichiro get changed. Yuichiro digs up a pair of clothes from his yet unpacked suitcase and grabs his phone from off the floor, clicking the on button to see that it is already ten o'clock. Shiho is right; the breakfast buffet won't be open for much longer. Yuichiro quickly slips into a tee shirt and loose fitting jeans and swiftly brushes his matted black hair.
Yuichiro huffs, grabbing his room key and phone and sliding them into his front pocket. "Let's go!"
"Finally." The two exit the room, walking briskly to the stairwell and out to the campus's cafeteria.
Yoichi, who Yuichiro recognizes from last night, a short lilac-haired girl, and a blond girl with pigtails are standing at the entrance of the eatery. Yuichiro looks back and forth between people in confusion. Shiho groans. The girl with lilac hair smirks. "Looks like you're just a little too late."
"What?" Yuichiro is stunned, confused because he doesn't want to accept the fact that he is probably the cause for making himself late.
Shiho turns to face him, his face red with anger. "Good going, nitwit!"
Yoichi laughs nervously as the scene plays out. "Well, um, you guys could always stop by the coffee place that's only a block or so away! It's not that big of a deal!"
Shiho growls. "Fine. Yuichiro, I'll drive us over there, and you can go in and order our food."
The lilac haired girl speaks up. "You're still coming to Sunday Game Night tonight, right?"
Shiho grumps. "Yeah, whatever."
The girl twirls her finger in Yuichiro's direction with a small smirk. "And feel free to bring him along." Yuichiro perks up in surprise at the stranger's invitation. "I'm Shinoa Hiragi, by the way. That over there is Mitsuba." Mitsuba huffs at the unkind sounding introduction.
Shiho grabs Yuichiro by the wrist and yanks him towards the direction of the car that they had driven to the school cafeteria. "Okay, sure. We'll be on our way now."
"Bye-bye!" Shinoa waves them off with a grumpy looking Mitsuba by her side.
