Chapter 8
"Firestar? Come to you? Two evil two good? Mothsight, your so special!" Stoneblaze echoed, shocked.
"Yes, now shush!" She hissed as she saw Rainclaw turn around to look at them with interest.
Stoneblaze fell silent, his eyes wide with surprise and faint excitement.
"Just don't tell anyone!" She ordered quickly. Then she added teasingly, "not even Leafheart!" She began to pick up the pace.
Stoneblaze caught up to her.
"I do not like Leafheart!" He argued defiantly. "You like Stormcloud!"
Mothsight looked away.
"I knew it!" He meowed triumphantly.
"Quiet!" A hiss sounded from in front and Stoneblaze rolled his eyes.
"You like Leafheart, admit it!" Mothsight whispered jokingly before padding up right behind the patrol.
Stoneblaze gushed. It was true, he did kind of like Leafheart. But he wouldn't admit it!
Mothsight rounded a tree before dropping into a crouch suddenly.
"What?" Rainclaw halted and turned to stare at her questioningly.
She flicked her tail, trying to tell them to get down.
Rainclaw spat with disgust at an order from a young warrior but dropped down anyway, stalking up beside her. Then he sniffed, and his eyes widened.
"Is that a rogue?" He shook his head and peeped over the bush they were behind.
"Perhaps... actually, I think your right! And I smell someone else too..." Mousetail lifted his jaw into the air.
Mothsight froze. "Ravenwing, and three rogues! No, four.. wait, more!" Her fur bristled with suspicion.
"She is right," Stoneblaze whispered, lowering his head.
Rainclaw dared to lift his head over the edge. He quickly shrank back in surprise.
"What's there?" Mothsight whispered nervously.
Rainclaw stared at her with worry and betrayal.
"It's Ravenwing. And she is chatting with loads of rogues; so many, I can't count! But I recognise Gorseshade."
Mothsight crouched, stiff. She had heard Gorseshade was a dangerous, exiled ThunderClan cat. He had murdered the RiverClan deputy, Pikeshine, and also poisoned two kits in death berries. He even turned on his Clan in a battle!
"How did Ravenwing get to them?" She asked, still puzzled, and Rainclaw glared at her.
"You think I know?" He retorted. "All I know is Ravenwing is plotting something with rogues, and that.. Gorseshade!"
"We need to tell Petalstar immediately!" Mousetail insisted. "Doesn't matter what they are doing. If we attack now we are outnumbered!"
"Okay, let's go, quickly. We must warn the Clan."
Mothsight looked over the edge.
Then her paws were rooted to the ground.
"S-she is beginning to run. She is leading them to camp!"
.~~.
The patrol raced to camp, not caring if someone saw them.
Mothsight was at the rear, even though she was quite fast. She wanted to make sure everyone was keeping up.
She heard a gasp behind her and recognised Ravenwing. She ran even faster, knowing Ravenwing was quick. But she had to lead the slower rogues.
"Your plan! The advantage of surprise is gone! They know!" Mothsight guessed that was Gorseshade's annoyed hiss, and heard a quicker thudding of paw-steps as the chasers tried to catch up.
Fortunately, they failed. There were slow rogues they needed in their attack, and they couldn't lose them. Ravenwing howled in defeat and tried to run even faster.
Mothsight quickened her pace, almost flying across the grass as she dodged her trees, panting heavily as she ran.
"You fox-heart!" She heard a snarl behind her and Ravenwing suddenly leaped, knocking Mothsight to the ground as she struggled to breathe.
"I knew you were bad, but not this bad!" She whimpered, her throat pushed into the ground as she couldn't breathe.
Ravenwing slid her claws out, as her rogues carried on chasing after the patrol.
Mothsight swallowed hard. She couldn't die!
"Any last words?" A hiss sounded from above.
"I hope you are ran over by a monster!" Mothsight rasped, beginning to feel weak.
Ravenwing tightened her grip, trying to get a better position, but her paw was misplaced and landed on the ground beside Mothsight.
Mothsight wasted no chance. She rolled over, using all her strength, and bit down hard on Ravenwing's tail, knowing she had a deep scar there.
Ravenwing howled in pain and swung herself around to claw at Mothsight, sending a swift, sharp blow at her cheek.
Mothsight hissed painfully, but carried on delivering her blows.
"You will regret being born!"
Ravenwing suddenly let go and slid away like a snake, to leave Mothsight panting and bleeding. She need to get to camp.
Weaker and tired, she carried on running to camp, her breathing becoming weaker and quicker.
Out of breath, her paws suddenly gave way underneath, and she collapsed onto the floor, only just breathing.
