With the sun beginning to rise, Mothsight made her way back to camp uneasily.
Should she tell Petalstar? Then she snorted. She had to! How else would she explain that she was pushed into the pond when the ice was getting thinner?
Her fur drenched, she squeezed through the thorn tunnel, shivering as she stood at the entrance of the clearing.
Cats who were gathered, eating, talking, sharing tongues, whatever, turned to stare at her in terror.
She padded towards Petalstar's den to see Ravenwing inside, talking to Petalstar about something. Her eyes glistened with sorrow, and Mothsight bit her tongue with disgust.
How fake, she thought bitterly.
Petalstar turned to Mothsight as she walked closer. Her eyes widened and Mothsight saw Ravenwing staring at her anxiously. She looked like she had just seen a StarClan cat.
Mothsight stared at Petalstar, who quickly dismissed Ravenwing and beckoned Mothsight to come in.
"What in the name of StarClan happened?" She gasped, glancing at Mothsight's soaked, black fur.
"Ravenwing offered me to hunt with her. We went to the old pond. She pushed me onto the ice and I slid to the middle. The ice cracked and I fell in and nearly drowned. I hit my head on the sharp edge of the ice. I managed to get out," she explained without pausing, and Petalstar stared at her blankly.
"So it was Ravenwing?" She whispered.
Mothsight nodded, suddenly wondering if the leader would believe her.
"I have to do something about this. I knew you never liked each other, but this has gone too far." She muttered before leaving the den. Mothsight followed, leaping down from the branch to reach the already-assembled crowd of cats.
Petalstar didn't have to even call a meeting. She looked down at her cats, checking everyone was there.
"Cats of ThunderClan. You are probably thinking why Mothsight is here, soaking, after Ravenwing reported to me she had drowned," she glared down at Ravenwing who stood in the centre of the crowd, head down, stiff.
"What?" Some cats yowled and they took off with disbelief.
"Apprentice duties again!" A cat called.
"Punish her!" Another demanded.
"Exile her," a snarl silenced the crowd and they all turned to Mistyshine, Mothsight's mother, standing there. Her eyes glowed with hatred for Ravenwing.
Petalstar dipped her head. "I understand your need of revenge, Mistyshine, but Ravenwing hasn't done anything that bad."
"That bad?" Mistyshine repeated, glaring up at the leader. "She nearly killed my kit after moons of hating her!" She hissed defiantly.
Petalstar hesitated. "I will punish her for now, but if she does anything bad like that again, then she is exiled." She declared.
"Ravenwing, you are now to be treated like an apprentice again. You can not go out alone, at least with two warriors. You must perform all the duties yourself. No help," she finished.
"Clan dismissed."
She leaped down from the rock and headed towards Ravenwing, sharing a quick word with her.
Ravenwing bowed her head and muttered something before stalking away, right past Mothsight.
"This isn't over," she hissed.
.~~.
Morning sunshine shone through the roof of the warriors' den and Mothsight turned to face away from the heat and light.
"Mothsight," a quiet hiss woke her from her sleep, and she yawned sleepily, lifting her head.
"Yeah?" She replied, struggling to open her eyes.
"It's me, Stoneblaze," the hiss sounded again and she opened her eyes to see her brother.
"What is it," she groaned.
"We need to go on a dawn patrol."
The word dawn hit her hard. She was supposed to be meeting Silverleaf!
She shot out of her nest and leaped over the warriors sleeping bodies to get out of the den.
"Mothsight, wait!" Stoneblaze called after his sister, who was racing away.
Mothsight ignored the calls and charged towards where she usually met Silverleaf.
"Why are you running?" Stoneblaze panted as he stood beside her, confused and anxious.
Mothsight shook her head, breaths coming in quick.
A silver she cat sat a few tail lengths away, her ears twitching impatiently.
The black she cat hesitated. Should she tell her brother? Then she shook her head to clear the though and padded forward.
"Sorry I'm late, Silverleaf."
She turned in surprise, and relaxed when it was Mothsight. But then she bristled at the sight of Stoneblaze.
"Who is that?" She spat, her hackles rising as she rose to her feet unsteadily.
"My brother," Mothsight meowed. "Stoneblaze, I'll explain later. Please go," she whispered, and she was glad when she saw her bother pad away, still puzzled.
"Why?" Silverleaf mumbled, glaring at Mothsight.
"He woke me up for a dawn patrol, and I remembered I was supposed to meet you," she explained.
"Should we meet at dusk then?" Silverleaf decided, understanding. "That way, we could get a better sleep and be more alert."
"Sure," Mothsight sighed in relief. "I'll meet you here at dusk then, I need to go on patrol. Bye!" She began to charge away, through the trees to camp. She reached the patrol who's still off immediately.
"You have some explaining to do," Stoneblaze muttered as they padded away from camp.
Mothsigth nodded and silence fell upon the patrol.
