Chapter 5

Through the night, Mothsight kept wriggling about, uncomfortable.

It was ever so cold in the exposed den, she hoped they would be able to help seal it up later. She'd have to tell Petalstar about it.

She shivered, and decided to get up.

It was dawn, and she could see Rainclaw with his eyes opened, fur brushed out and shivering from the cold.

She nodded a greeting before padding out of the den into the snow.

Her paws made little marks in the snow but Mothsight wasn't really bothered. Snow didn't fascinate her as much as it did to others. She just found it cold and annoying.

She sighed and walked over to the fresh kill pile.

Her tail flicked in surprise and horror.

There was a sparrow and two salmons, but the sparrow was completely frozen!

She tried to pick it up but it just slipped out of her jaws.

Annoyed and cold, she pawed it out of the pile to get a better grip.

Cinderwing padded up to meet her nervously.

"Hey, Cinderwing," Mothsight breathed after failing in picking the bird up.

"Hi!" She looked Mothsight in the eyes, "is the sparrow completely frozen?"

"Uh, yes?" Mothsight answered, looking back at the sparrow to check. Completely frozen.

The medicine cat's eyes clouded with worry. "It's an omen," she whispered.

Mothsight stood stiff with shock. What was the omen about?

"I-I'll have a think about it," Cinderwing stuttered before moving away to get a fish for herself.

"Is there anyone with green cough yet?" Mothsight questioned, concerned.

Cinderwing shook her head. "Not that I'm aware of. Sometimes warriors get coughs, but they don't admit it," she muttered as she stalked away, stumbling a little as she thought about the omen.

Mothsight stared after her, before glancing at the sparrow that lay at her paws.

She looked around her to see if anyone was watching.

No one. The camp was clear.

She sighed and sat down, her tail wrapped around her paws that were tucked in to keep her warm.

"You need to stop the war." A voice echoed in Mothsight's ears and she froze.

She whipped her head around to see a star-lit cat standing before her.

It was a handsome ginger tom, who's tail swayed gracefully in the wind.

"W-who are you?" Mothsight gasped in shock. She guessed it was a StarClan cat, and wondered if she was dreaming, or even possibly dead.

The tom dipped his head. "I am Firestar." He announced and Mothsight stood still with surprise.

She had heard about the mighty leader who had lead ThunderClan moons and moons ago, even before Gorsetail, the oldest elder in the Clans, was born.

"Firestar?" Mothsight repeated. "Am I dead? Why are you talking to me and not Cinderwing?"

"Cinderwing can not persuade the Clans to stop the war. She is a medicine cat, I know, but StarClan has chosen you and another cat to stop the war." Firestar explained, beginning to fade away.

"Who is the other cat?" Mothsight asked quickly.

Firestar began to fade more, just a faint silhouette against the snow.

"Who will help me?" Mothsight begged.

"Seek in your enemies who rule the rivers." Firestar whispered as he disappeared.

Mothsight still heard Firestar's voice, which sent a shiver down her spine.

"Unnecessary blood will be spilled if you don't find the other cat. You need to stop the war, your our only chance," his voice boomed in Mothsight's ears, but it was not these words that scared her the most.

"But there will be a rising two who will stop you, with the power of the dark forest. Mothsight, your our only hope. Find the other cat and help the Clans," he warned.

Mothsight gulped as the voice stopped.

She was the chosen one, and she had to find another cat to help her stop the war with the Clans, while two other cats were trying to stop them?

.~~.

Mothsight padded along the edge of the forest, thinking about what Firestar had said.

She had excused herself to go hunting along the RiverClan border. Firestar had said to seek her enemies who ruled the rivers. She guessed it was RiverClan.

"What are you doing so close to the border?" A hiss made her jump, and whirled around to face a the sleek, silver she cat who she had fought in the battle.

Her eyes widened as she recognised Mothsight. An uneasy look creeped into her eyes.

"What are you doing here," she repeated coldly.

Mothsight suddenly knew this was the cat that would help her.

She quickly checked no one was there.

"So?" She asked, getting more furious by the moment. "Why are you here?"

Mothsight dipped her head. "I need to speak to you."

"You are right now! Go on, fish-brain!" She hissed. "Your wasting my time."

"You didn't want the battle to happen, right?" She asked slowly, thinking about her words so she didn't make a mistake.

"Of course I didn't! There was no reason," she growled.

"I saw a StarClan cat, Firestar, the great ThunderClan leader. He told me to look for someone to help me stop the war. He said to seek through my enemies who rule the rivers. Then I was here, thinking about it and then bumped into you."

The cat's eyes widened. "He came to me too," she whispered, as if she could hardly believe it.

"But I didn't think it would be you!" She snorted afterwards, and Mothsight glared at her in annoyance.

"Well, we have to stop the Clans. But how?" She asked thoughtfully, forgetting she was speaking to a rival.

"Silverleaf! Hurry up!" A call came from the bushes.

The silver she cat, now Mothsight knew she was called Silverleaf, quickly glanced at Mothsight.

"Here, tomorrow at dawn." She ordered without waiting for a response. She spun around and raced through the bushes.
