Chapter 3
The sun was hidden through the branches of the trees, but soon the patrols padded out into sunlight, escaping the dark, cold depths of the forest, which they called home.
The cats purred as they finally got a little warmth, before separating into their own patrols, and hiding where they began to wait.
Adderstripe, Amberfur and Mistyshine made their way towards Sun Pond, soon trespassing onto RiverClan land, but their pelts stays flat as they calmly sat, waiting for a patrol just at the edge of Sun Pond.
Mothsight shuffled a little, impatience taking over.
"Do they still even both to patrol their borders?" She hissed quietly to Stoneblaze, who shrugged and peered over the bush they were behind.
"Maybe something happened?" Mothsight's apprentice, Poppypaw, insisted, coming over to crouch on the other side of Mothsight.
"I doubt it would take this long. Unless someone was poisoned and died," Mothsight suggested darkly, her muscles beginning to ache. How could she fight if her muscles ached?!
"Quiet!" Ashclaw growled over to them, who was sitting opposite them next to Willowheart.
Foxpaw stood to see over the edge of the bush, and Stoneblaze nudged him down quickly before Ashclaw could see.
After what seemed forever, Mothsight spotted a patrol racing towards Adderstripe and the others. Her fur bristled when she noticed their hostility. She doubted they'd take the deal.
"What are you doing in RiverClan territory?" The tom who lead the patrol hissed, his back arched. Two she cats stood behind him, glaring at the intruders.
Adderstripe dipped his head slowly. "Greetings, Finheart, we have come to discuss some news about Sun Pond," he meowed smoothly, flicking his tail tip in satisfaction at the uncomfortable RiverClan cats.
Mothsight noticed how thin they were worriedly. It would be an easy win for ThunderClan.
"What about it," Finheart growled fiercely, though his eyes flared with worry.
"We have come to announce that we would like to share Sun Pond with you, meaning both of our Clans are welcome here," Adderstripe offered. "Or we can fight to keep it."
Finheart reared back a little with surprise and disgust. "Sun Pond? Yours? Or even worse, sharing it? You can't even fish!" He hissed, unsheathing his claws, and the cats behind him copied.
Adderstripe dipped his head again. "We can learn. We are giving you a choice." He meowed coldly.
Finheart hesitated. "Minnowheart, go to camp and tell Cloudstar," he ordered, and a brown she cat behind him nodded swiftly and shot away in the direction of camp.
"We shall wait for her to return. Until then, we stay here," Finheart commanded, and all the cats sat down.
Mothsight flicked her tail, nervous as the tension.
It took a few moments before she spotted Minnowheart returning, a large white she cat behind her. Mothsight guessed that was Cloudstar and gulped. The RiverClan leader looked furious.
Finheart turned to his leader and dipped his head respectfully.
"These cats want to share Sun Pond with us. If we say no, they will fight for it." He reported, and Cloudstar glanced at her enemies coldly.
"Why should we share our only huntin- I mean, why should we share one of our hunting places?" She stumbled quietly on her words. "You can't even swim!" She added with disgust.
"We can learn." Adderstripe repeated what he had said to Finheart.
Cloudstar hesitated. Then she shook her head.
"Then RiverClan will fight for it." She decided. "When?"
"Now!" Adderstripe yowled as cats shot out of every direction to join the battle. He had took advantage of Cloudstar's shock.
Mothsight charged towards the fight, no longer trying to hide.
She leaped onto Finheart with hesitating. She instantly regretted tackling a senior warrior.
He clawed at Mothsight, and she squeaked angrily and taking advantage of her size, she shot between his legs and bit down hard on his tail. Her favourite attack.
He yelped in pain and surprise, before ripping his tail roughly from her mouth. Then he turned and tried to pounce on her, but failed miserably.
Mothsight rolled out of the way and saw an old wound placed on the tom's leg.
She hissed, excited she had found a weak spot, before reaching in at tearing the wound open with her teeth, before clawing at it.
Finheart howled in pain and quickly raced away.
Mothsight panted, suddenly feeling bad. He must have felt so much pain!
But she quickly wheeled around, forgetting the tom. She noticed there were more RiverClan cats now, Minnowheart had probably came back to her camp and got more.
She hissed, disappointed. Then she charged for a sleek silver she cat and leaped onto her back successfully, satisfied at the squeal of surprise.
She looked just a few days younger than Mothsight, though she was rather tall for her age.
She hissed and rolled over, but Mothsight quickly leaped into the air and came back down onto her belly, and clawed at it.
She yelped in pain and dived upwards using her strength to bowl Mothsight over.
She shrieked in surprise as the silver she cat took over, clawing at Mothsight, who quickly slid between her paws before turning and nipping at her leg.
She hissed in pain, before rearing and turning around to face Mothsight.
"This battle should not have taken place!" She growled before retreating into the bushes.
Mothsight stared after her in surprise at her words. They sent a shiver down her spine.
What did they mean?
