Chapter 2
It was just after sunhigh when the patrol returned to camp. The sun faintly shone but didn't warm anyone up. Snow had began to fall, and Mothsight's paws tingled with excitement as she saw the white little things.
Mothsight was dancing around in the snow which was becoming thicker by the second when she spotted the patrol coming back.
She raced over to hear their words, her tail tip flicking hopefully as she looked up at Petalstar, who was sitting on her branch, looking down with interest.
"Very well, I shall set a patrol straight away." She answered, pleased.
Mothsight bounced up and down, not even trying to contain her excitement.
Petalstar didn't even have to call a meeting, every cat in the camp was already sitting in the snow, waiting for her to speak.
"Rainclaw says it is not frozen. But she spotted some RiverClan warriors hunting there, which sows their river is most likely sickening." Petalstar reported, and the Clan howled their approval and excitement.
Cinderwing, the medicine cat, stood up uncertainly. "It isn't fair to attack them, personally. They could all die of hunger. Where would they hunt?" She challenged uneasily.
Mothsight heard a murmur of disagreement pass through the crowd.
"But we are doing it for our Clan!" Mothsight heard Sootshine call, an edge to her voice.
Cinderwing dipped her head respectfully. "It is your choice, Petalstar, but I'm just pointing out they would slowly disappear." She meowed darkly, easily accepting defeat against her whole, hungry Clan.
A mutter of uncertainty passed over the assembled cats, and Mothsight twitched her ear uneasily.
Cinderwing had unsettled her thoughts, and she didn't know whether it was right to attack a Clan for their only hunting source they have.
"We have the forest, they don't?" She squeaked and silence took over.
"Then we will fight to share the pond." Petalstar decided after a few heartbeats, and the Clan began muttering among themselves.
"If they agree, then there will be no fight. If they disagree, then we will fight to keep it." Petalstar reasoned, and the Clan began to mumble, considering the deal.
"I agree! We are giving them a choice, and it is not our fault if they refuse the deal!" Amberfur yowled to support her leader, and others began to copy her.
"They are lucky we are giving them two options." Willowheart purred.
"Sun Pond!" A few cats howled, and Mothsight joined in.
"Okay. The cats who are going on the patrol to ask will be Adderstripe, Amberfur and Mistycloud. There will also be two fighting patrols who will be ready in the trees if RiverClan refuse. Adderstripe will howl if they say no, and the patrols will come help fight for it. " Petalstar ordered.
"If they are struggling, send a cat to camp for a back up patrol. They will be ready. If RiverClan say yes, then all patrols return to camp unhurt. But RiverClan might try and trick us, so patrols will be with more cats, and no cat can go out of camp alone." Petalstar finished, and the Clan fizzed with excitement.
"I would like Mothsight, Poppypaw, Stoneblaze, Foxpaw, Ashclaw and Willowheart to be on one fighting patrol, and on the other will be Spottedshine, Leafheart, Stormcloud, Mistyshine and Oakfur. When the cats leave, I will prepare a back up patrol in case." Petalstar announced.
Mothsight yelped a little with excitement, then licked her chest fur in embarrassment. She was behaving like a kit!
Poppypaw ran up to her, her eyes shining birthed than a star. "We are going to attack!" She breathed energetically. "I can't believe it!"
Mothdight purred in return. "Remember everything I have taught you. " She warned her apprentice who nodded before darting off to her brother, Foxpaw, who was standing stiff with excitement.
Sun Pond will soon be theirs!
