Chapter 10
In the evening light, the two cats sat, hoping for ideas, hoping for a new chance, hoping StarClan was with them.
"Is this a sign?" The black she cat muttered to herself quietly.
"What?" Petalstar asked.
"Nothing," she quickly answered, hoping Petalstar hadn't heard. She didn't know about the prophecy Mothsight knew.
"Why don't we go to the gathering tomorrow night and see if any of the Clans have found them?" Mothsigth suggested.
"Maybe."
Mothsight sighed. "Well, I'm going to go look then,"
Petalstar nodded in silent dismissal, and Mothsight stood and shook her fur out.
"Get some rest, Petalstar. I'll go catch some prey too." Mothsight insisted, and with that, Petalstar yawned and curled o to sleep, accepting defeat.
Moonlight began to reflect on the puddles as Mothsight padded on the old Twoleg path.
She made her way to the edge of ThunderClan territory.
If she was in her Clans position, she would settle at High Hill. A steep, tall hill with flowers sprouting out from every angle. Not many cats could get up, so no one would even try to follow her. She'd be safe up there, with tall trees beside and above her, shielding her from large birds.
Digging her claws into grass, she began to work her way upwards. She had scented a faint scent of ThunderClan every now and then, but couldn't detect who it was.
Nearly there, she told herself, beginning to see the top of trees next to her.
She gritted her teeth as she hauled herself over onto the small, flat field, also known as the top of High Hill.
"Mothsight?" A surprised meow sounded from a bush two tail lengths ahead. Mothsight relaxed in relief. She had found someone!
"Who?" A nervous call echoed from further behind the bush. Mothsight prickled.
"It's Mothsight," the voice reassured, and the cat padded out of the bushes. It was Stoneblaze.
"Stoneblaze!" Mothsigh purred, padding forward to nuzzle her brother.
"The others are here. We are only missing Petalstar and Cinderwing, and we were missing you, of course!" He explained, licking his sisters ears in welcome.
"I know where Petalstar is. But Cinderwing? I do not know." She told him anxiously. "Do you think they took her? They took me!"
Stoneblaze's eyes clouded. "I think they killed her. I remember seeing her fighting Gorseshade."
Eyes widening, Mothsight blinked in grief. "There is no way she would have won!" She muttered, looking away sadly.
"Hey, don't worry. At least we know where Petalstar is, and we do have Softpaw. She says that Cinderwing was planning her naming ceremony in a few days, and that was two days ago. She is treating everyone right now," he added comfortingly.
Mothsight heaved a sigh of relief. "Is Poppypaw here?" She had been so busy fighting battles and going on patrols, she had almost forgotten about her apprentice.
Stoneblaze nodded and flicked his tail, signalling for Mothsight to follow as they slid through the bushes and into a little clearing. ThunderClan turned their eyes with interest to stare at Mothsight.
"Mothsight!" Mistyshine purred uncontrollably, heading forward to greet her kit.
"Mothsight?" Poppypaw peeped behind a bush from the corner of the clearing. Then she raced towards her mentor, green eyes shining.
"Hey! Sorry I wasn't there for you. But I know where they are!"
"Where?" Tigerstorm demanded immediately.
"Yes, where?" Ashclaw called, walking forwards swiftly, his paws making no sound as they hit the floor softly.
"In the barn." Mothsight replied, her eyes scanning the cats. No Cinderwing and no Petalstar.
"And where's Petalstar?"
"She is near the camp, close to the Twoleg place. I'm going to go get her now."
"No," Ashclaw protested. "Rainclaw and Whitefur, you go get her. Help her up the hill. Mothsight, you need to rest. Softpaw will see to you."
Mothsight nodded her thanks and settled down near the entrance, curling up to sleep.
.~~.
"Softleaf! Softleaf! Softleaf!" The Clan chanted their new medicine cat.
"We will return to our camp now. I'm guessing that Ravenwing and the rogues didn't intend on invading our camp, just attacking to murder cats. They are staying in the barn, Ashclaw went to check in the morning. The camp is clear. ThunderClan will return home!" Petalstar announced excitedly.
Sunshine beamed brightly onto the cats, with not much cover of trees helping to block out the sun. The cats gathered together and made their way down the hill, back to camp. Back to where they belonged.
"What can you smell?" Mothsight tested Poppypaw as they neared the Thunderpath . She lifted her nose up to the air and sniffed, before recoiling back at a sharp tang.
"A musty tang, really sharp." She wrinkled her nose.
Mothsight purred in amusement. They were at the rear, and she was trying to make the most of the journey back to camp.
"That's the Thunderpath. And if you look through that gap between the branches of that tree," she pointed with her nose at the Thunderpath beyond the trees and bushes, "you can see monsters going by. Stay clear of them though," she warned as they quickened their pace to reach the others.
"We are nearly there!" Petalstar reassured her warriors as they passed Snake Stones. ThunderClan camp should be only a few tree lengths away.
Mothsight twitched her ears, hearing a bird calling an alarm which sent the fluttering sight of many birds up into the sky and away.
"I love ThunderClan," Stormcloud purred, slowing to fall next to Mothsight. Poppypaw nodded a farewell to her mentor and raced towards her mother excitedly.
"Same," Mothsight sighed happily. "I wonder what will happen at the gathering."
