Chapter: 十五

A/N:

Tissues ready? Okay! Continue!

Zi Xuan stopped in his tracks, looking deep into Yu Hao's eyes, hunting for a trace of that joking glimmer he always carried around, but finding nothing. Yu Hao was being completely serious, and it scared him slightly.

Zi Xuan moved them over, to the side of the street. "Are you proposing to me?"

"Huh? No... I mean... ye- I guess?" Yu Hao replied. "I'm just saying what my mom was thinking. I was hoping you would agree." He let go of Zi Xuan's hands, moving over, rubbing the back of his neck. "I guess not. It's okay, though. I told her that was moving too fast anyway. I told her you wouldn't accept it." He smiled, but it was obviously fake. "Let's just go back to the hotel."

Zi Xuan's eyes widened, watching Yu Hao walk away. He reached out, grabbing Yu Hao by his shirt and pulling him back in. "I'm not rejecting you... but I'm questioning you. What about college? We both still have to get past that. We... we don't even know if we're gonna be in the same school... and four years is a long time to be apart."

Yu Hao's face grew cold in an instant. "You aren't rejecting me, you're just gonna break up with me?" He seethed the words through clenched teeth, holding back tears. "I'm not a fucking idiot, Zi Xuan! I'm not asking you to marry me. I'm seventeen, I know what everyone tells seventeen year olds in their high school romance. They tell you it won't last forever, that you'll never get married to them, that you don't love each other, you're just 'experimenting' or you're just horny, or whatever!" He felt Zi Xuan's grip loosen, and he pushed him away.

Zi Xuan turned from loving boyfriend to icy cold volleyball coach in a second. He almost tuned out Yu Hao's words, but forced himself to listen. "Why do you act like you don't care? I love you so much and I've never once fucking heard you say it back." He looked down at the sidewalk, feeling the tears running down his fiery cheeks. "All you care about is volleyball!"

They stood on the sidewalk for a few seconds, both looking more hurt than the other, until Yu Hao retreated, running as far away as he could, skipping the elevator in the hotel and climbing up the stairs.

Opening his room, not even looking at Jia Jun, he went inside the bathroom and locked the door. Yu Hao then sat on the floor and cried his heart out.

He thought about when he had meant Zi Xuan, how happy he had been. How happy they were together, or maybe it was had been. He felt so... so... so used. And it wasn't the first time he had suffered that kind of hurt.

Why can't someone genuine just love me, he thought, over and over wishing that he wouldn't be hurt anymore.

Eventually, after about fifteen minutes of this, Jia Jun came to inspect his broken heart.

"Hey, uh, Yu Hao, you good?" He asked, trying to sound as real as possible, even though he loathed Yu Hao for stealing Zi Xuan's heart.

"No." The broken-sounding voice came from behind the bathroom doors. "And I'll never be okay again."

Jia Jun's brow furrowed in hidden, hearing the big guy say those words made him feel... weird. "What do you mean? Did something happen with Zi Xuan?" He pursed his lips, half hoping he would touch a nerve, half hoping Yu Hao could just talk it out.

"Yeah it did. We broke up, I was taking things too fast." He said, sniffling. "I just... I guess I thought he was the one. I've gone above and beyond for him... I thought he would be willing to do that for me." Yu Hao put his face in his knees. "I'm stupid."

"You aren't... you aren't stupid." Jia Jun chocked out, even though he hated Yu Hao, he knew the team depended on him, and if their lead spiker was crying in the bathroom there was no way they would make it past this competition. "Look, it's not your fault, okay? We all fuck up. I'm certain Zi Xuan will forgive you soon enough. You guys are a golden couple anyway."

A cry was heard from inside the bathroom. "Were! We were a golden couple!" He yelled, making Jia Jun roll his eyes.

"Was. Were. Are. Whatever. I'm sure you'll make up soon enough and then you'll re-become the best couple ever. For tonight, you have to focus on winning this game, not Zi Xuan, not anyone." Jia Jun sighed softly. "Okay?"

He almost fell when the door opened and Yu Hao smiled brokenly at him. He nodded, walking over to where his bag was and putting his volleyball clothes in it. "Okay. I'll try my best to win this."

Jia Jun put his hand on Yu Hao's shoulder. "For the team."

"For the team."
