Chapter 21
Arlene's POV
"Why isn't Bobby home?" I asked as I came downstairs.
We had just left the hospital. I had to come back later that day for the kidney transplant. I went to Bobby's room when we got home because he wasn't with Charles, Charlotte, and Candice when I came back into the waiting room to leave. He wasn't in his room, or any other room I checked.
"He, um—," Charlotte paused and glanced at Charles.
"Wanted it to be a surprise." Charles finished for her and they both smiled.
"Just tell me what it is. I'll act surprised either way." I begged.
"We already told him we wouldn't tell.Sorry, dear." Charlotte said.
"Oh," I replied and went to my room.
I let myself fall on my bed. I was tired. I laid there with my eyes shut for at least five minutes then opened them. My eyes landed on the picture of Bobby and I together on my dresser. I walked over to my dresser and picked the framed picture up and looked at it.
In the picture, we were sitting on a picnic table in the yard. Bobby had his legs crossed and was looking at me, grinning, and I was laughing. I remember that day like it was yesterday.
"So, today there was this man at work and he was looking for the milk. He had two kids with him; a boy and a girl. They looked like twins and they were about four or five." Bobby told me.
"Where is this going?" I asked, smiling.
"Just listen. So, The two kids were running around chasing each other. The man grabbed the milk and paid for it, then he opened it and started drinking it right out of the carton." I was already laughing my head off by the time he got finished saying that part. "The boy saw him drinking it. The boy's like, 'Hey, daddy's drinking out of the milk container thingy!' then the girl goes, 'Spank him!' so the boy slaps the man's leg and then the they both started running around him chasing each other. He tried to move so they wouldn't be running around him, but when he did the little girl ran into him. He fell and dropped the milk all over him and the two kids. The girl said, 'Oops! Sorry, daddy!' and I died laughing." he started grinning because I was laughing so hard.
That was one of the best days of my life.
I picked up the other picture I had on my dresser of Bobby and I.
We were at the beach. I was wearing a white dress, and he was wearing a white long sleeved shirt with buttons that went up the top. The wind was blowing when we took the picture so our clothes and hair were blowing and the sun was shining in the background. It was my favorite picture of us.
I don't know why I was acting so weird about these pictures, I just felt like something bad was happening to Bobby. It got me thinking about us, and what I would do without him.
I posted the picture of us at the beach together on Instagram and it automatically posted to Facebook because of the way I had my settings fixed on Instagram. I put in the caption,
"We're you're definition of relationship goals 💕 Love you, Bobby! 😘"
And tagged Bobby. My notifications started blowing up.

I was really appreciating my youth group friends at that moment. I kept getting so many likes it was crazy. A bunch of Bobby's friends started commenting too.

I would've blocked Bobby's friends, but I knew they were kidding because they all go to our youth group and they're all really Godly guys. I was hoping I wouldn't be getting any weird comments from them because of that picture I posted. They were all the time calling me weird nicknames and acting like they had known me for years. I felt like I really fit in with Bobby's youth group, and I was glad I started going. The youth pastor wasn't even that far from our ages. He was twenty six, but he was very knowledgeable of the Bible.
I locked my phone and I laid down on my bed. My phone lit up which meant I had a notification. It was from Bobby. He liked on the picture of us and commented.
bobbydavis Love you too, Arlene. Thanks for being an awesome girlfriend. 😉
I read his comment and smiled.
ac.allen Thanks for being my boyfriend and my best friend. 💕
So now I knew he was okay. I didn't want to text him and make him think I'm a clingy freak so I just waited for him to text me first. My wait ended up lasting for half an hour, until I finally gave up and decided he wasn't going to text me. I laid down on my bed and tried to take a quick nap until I had to go back to the hospital.
After what seemed like a few minutes, Charlotte came into my room and started shaking me. I rubbed my eyes and sat up.
"Comb your hair and get whatever you want to bring. It's time to leave so you can get that transplant done." Charlotte said. I sighed. "Scared?" she asked and sat down on my bed.
"Very. I've never had to have surgery done before. I've never even broken a bone before." I replied.
"Arlene, you don't have to worry about a thing, because God's already working it out. Just be calm and trust Him. I know what I'm talking about, I've been through many things, and every single time, God has made a way out for me."
"I know, but I'm still scared."
"I can't stop you from being scared. All I can do is remind you that there is a God who calmed Daniel's fears when he was thrown into a lion's den. We all love you, and we're all praying for you." Charlotte got up and straightened her clothes out. "Now, get ready. We don't want you to be late."
