Chapter 17
"Api!" Ais yelled. She dodged guards' shots by sliding on an ice rink that she'd created, freezing them with her arrows as she went. She could hear explosions and fighting from the furthest end of the corridor, but she wasn't sure. Solar followed her lead, catching up to her with light speed and instantaneous teleportation.
The ground quivered, knocking them off balance. Solar used his beams to destroy a red spear that was headed their way. They must be close by. Sure enough, they were met with a warzone. There were metal pillars and electric spears in every direction, mindless destruction and havoc uncommon.
Api noticed their presence, and their eyes widened. His eyes were amber orange. He had elemental powers too. Before either of them could question it, two figures raged, segregating Ais and Solar from Blaze.
"What's going on?" Solar yelled, trying to glimpse at the battling figures. "Are those—"
"YES! Petir and Tanah!" Blaze roared. "You have to stop them! My powers won't affect them for some reason!"
Ais nocked two ice arrows in her bow. Aiming at the two figures with precise accuracy, she released the string and the projectiles raced for their target. It hit the flooring and the wall, ice spiralling up the tip of the arrow and onto their bodies, immobilizing them.
The taller figure visibly struggled, but the shorter one didn't even react. Tanah was stuck to the ground as Petir was glued to the wall, both their stances caught in the midst of a battle.
"WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU FUCKERS?" Gempa screeched, the ice encasing him already starting to crack. Ais and Solar's back was covered in sweat. Tanah never swore, and he didn't have white hair or red eyes.
Ais shot another arrow and thickened the casing, much to Solar's dismay. Solar rubbed his eyes. No matter how he put it, his mind wasn't comprehending the fact that Petir was trying to kill Tanah and vice versa. But this wasn't Tanah... was it?
Who were they?
"Api!" Ais embraced Blaze, which earned a shriek of pain from the both of them. Both their skin sizzled upon their contact, mist emitting from Ais's frosted hand and smoke from Blaze's skin. "Are you alright?"
Blaze scowled. "Of course not! You hid this from me?"
"You hid this from me too. Angin found out by accident." Ais argued evenly. "We're even."
Blaze's mind worked its gears and he sighed, accepting the result. The pair of twins turned to the predicament ahead of them, which made no apparent sense. Even as Blaze and Ais, which were polar opposites, they would never think to fight each other, let alone murder each other. So why did Halilintar and Gempa try to?
Halilintar started to spark with electricity. She didn't even react to the ice itself, but she couldn't escape. The more cracks formed in the ice, the thicker Ais would replace.
"I can't believe you have the balls to even come up here," Gempa taunted Solar, expression maniacal, dispersed aura menacing. "Pretty boy wants to play the hero, huh? Too bad maths equations can't solve every variable."
Solar let the insults bounce off him. He faced his insane friend, staring straight into his eyes.
"Tanah, this isn't you. You wouldn't want to hurt Petir," Solar reasoned. "She's your sister. You want to protect her and she wants to protect you. You have to calm down."
Gempa snorted and rolled his eyes. Since when did he want to protect that little piece of shit? She'd been nothing but emotional baggage and trouble. He was almost going to gauge his eyes out because he thought that he wanted to protect her in the past.
All he wanted to do was to tear her apart.
Solar didn't waver. His eyes studied the abnormal phenomenon: white hair, black streak, red eyes; they were all the mirror version of the original Tanah. If he had powers that affected his emotions as well as his base nature, then this must be the problem. Something terrible must have happened for his powers to flip to the dark side entirely.
The only thing that they could do was let Petir calm him down herself. That proved to be futile, because she was also trying to tear his head off.
Still, Petir didn't seem to be in full control, either. She had zero emotion. Like, none. He'd spent most of his life with her. He understood her like the back of his palm.
Something's not right here.
Solar's phone rang. He picked it up, and his eyes widened. He pocketed his device and turned to the pair of twins. "I'll check up on Taufan and Thorn. Make sure they don't go free."
The siblings nodded. Solar sped away in the speed of light, hoping to testify his theory. Indeed, when Taufan and Thorn greeted him, he was also met with the sight of his ex-girlfriend trapped in a scientific liquid capsule.
Solar paled. "What did they do to her?"
Taufan shook his head. "We found her like this by accident. Was it true that Tanah and Petir are fighting over there? Because she's right here."
Approaching the capsule warily, he placed his gloved hand on the glass. It was cold to the touch. Petir didn't respond. His heart wrenched. Questions raided his mind. Why was Petir separated from her elemental form? Why was it attacking Tanah?
What was Bora-ra's goal?
"Can you get her out?" Thorn simpered.
Solar looked over the controls. All of them were alien technology with no labels.
"I don't know," he admitted. He had a plan, but it was crazy. It had a high chance of failure, but it was their best bet. He dialled Ais to tell her.

Gempa knew he was insane. He knew he wanted blood. He knew this was wrong. And he loved it. However, he was trapped in this block of ice. He could feel his limbs going numb, but the adrenaline obscured the paralysation.
At one point, Halilintar had managed to escape. Ais froze her with deadly accuracy once more, and Blaze now realized how she was able to aim a mean alarm clock to his face every morning.
That little fucker was so close, but he was unable to advance. He wanted nothing more than to bloody murder this little piece of shit and tear her limb from limb. There was this rushing warmth that warmed his heart when one of his spikes impaled her.
He was so close, yet so far.
"Dude. I don't know what's gotten into you, but you need to snap out of it," Blaze berated. "You don't just... um, try to kill your sister. That's wrong."
"You're not the boss of me, you motherfucker," Gempa snapped coolly. "Says the pipsqueak who can't even reach the top shelf."
Blaze's eye twitched. He was visibly irritated by how Gempa was able to push his buttons. Ais noticed this and intervened before Blaze would go haywire.
"Melt the ice," Ais commanded.
Blaze snapped to her. "What? Are you fucking insane!"
Ais glared. "Do it."
The fire manipulator's eyes jerked towards Gempa and back to his sister. If he died today, he would haunt them in the afterlife. Swallowing, he placed his burning hand onto the freezing ice, turning it into vapour.

Solar bit his lip as he could hear the explosions gradually growing outside. The ground was practically quaking from the battle outside. They had one chance, and one chance only.
His hands trembled above the controls. He had never accepted failure, but his whole world depended on this.
Taufan and Thorn gasped sharply. Startled, he turned around to them, only to see Bora-ra standing at the door, holding Gempa up by the throat as Halilintar stood by his side.
