Something New

"You know, moving here was the best thing we did. Jake and I are not like everyone here. We don't judge people, we get to know them. I like to party have a good time, that's my thing. Jake is more quite he does not like to be in the spotlight."

Feeling Violet's eyes on me, looking away from the moon at her. She was beautiful. I am sure there is a line already being made to be with her. There is something different about her tonight in the moonlight. Sadness in her eye.

"I don't judge people. Believe me, I know all too well what that feels like. There are many people here that will label, even judge who you are. Don't worry, I am not one of them."

A soft smile appears on her face. "My sweet girl, I know you are not one of them. Why did you not go to the party tonight?"

"That's not my thing. I mean, I am not invited to those things, I am not invited to many things. You will see and learn in time. This town talks things get around. It's a beautiful town just has a lot of growing up to do."

Turning back to the moon soaking her shine in. Calming and soothing my soul. It has to be 20 minutes without a word being sent . Did she leave and I miss it or maybe fall asleep? Turning back to where she sat. I see her looking at the moon.

"This is so peaceful and relaxing. We could never do this back home. I am jealous of you with this wonderful view. I am sure you never took it for granted."

The word hit me jealous of me? No one has ever been jealous of me. If things were different, I know I still would make time to enjoy the moon and stars. It was something I did with my dad all the time. So that would have never changed.

"It's always beautiful on a clear night. Too many stars to count, with Luna shining so bright. You get lost in your thoughts, finding peace and calmness.

She stood up and started heading to walk away, stopping and turning to face me .

"You know, this being here with you was the best part of the night. Don't close off to getting to know Jake and I, we are not like the people in this town. Believe me, we all have to live with something in our lives that does not define us. Good night Scarlett, thank you for the chat."

"Goodnight Violet, thank you ."

Heading inside with Lola locking up the house. I think about my time with Violet. I had no one but my dad to sit on the porch with looking up at our friend the moon. It was nice to have someone around without feeling on eggshells. I wounded how long that will last. It's only a matter of time before this town gets their hooks in them.

I found sleep easy tonight. As soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out like a light. Lola by my side sleeping so sound.

Awww, the sun is so bright. It feels like I just went to sleep. What time is it? I roll over and it 11:45am shit I slept in. I jump up running to the bathroom. Taking a quick shower, I throw on leggings with a T-shirt.

"Let's go Lola. Time for our run."

Locking the door behind me making my way on the path. My favorite time is running with no one else around. It's like you are flying in a wonderland of nature and animals all around you. Lola by my side, we make it to town. Where people are doing their very day plans. I slow down to a walk, making sure not to bump into anyone. It's like I am a ghost that no one sees any ways. So I do the looking not to start a fight.

Turning the corner at the end of town, getting ready to run my last part to home. I see the big red truck; they are in town. Before I can even look for them. Jake is in front of me.

Well, hello beautiful smile. How are you today?"

"Hello Jake, it's going okay so fair. How is your day going for you?"

That's when I heard them, the girl squad and their High pitch voice's. Before Jake could say anything back.

"Jakey, there you are. You left last night without a word. That made me so sad. I was hoping to spend some time with you."

She wraps her arms around him, looking up into his eyes. I was Ted to throw up. Just my life. Walking away, I don't need to be here or see any more. Jake is in the hands of Vanessa, the girl every guy wants and few get. She is picky and knows she can have them all. She has her claws into Jake, her eye on the prize she will win.

"Hey Scarlett, stop." Moving away from her, he grabs on to my hand, turning me around to see him. "We have plans for the day. Where do you think you are going?"

"What? What pl..."

Before I can get another word out. Jake pulls me away from the girls with their mouths dropped open.

"What are you doing? Jake, stop, please. You don't know what you are doing."

I turn to face him with a look of confusion. Closing my eyes, I inhale deep slowly, letting out my breath. Opening my eyes, I look into his deep sea-blue eyes.

"Jake, you are new here, so let me give you the rundown. That girl Vanessa is every guy's dream girl. She does not go with every guy in town, but yes, she gets around. "shaking my head, I am getting off track here." Look, you don't walk away from her, you sure as hell don't pick me to talk to over her. Look, you are going to hear things and know where people stand in this town. Don't fuck up your chance at a good life here with lots of friends around."

Pulling away from him, I walk down the road. He did not stop me, he never came after me. Tears in my eyes, I started running back home. I did the right thing I know for once they tell them about my mother. They too will not talk to me.

Just what I need. She is home. Hope she is alone, hates having to take care of her and her guest in my home. I am sure Daddy would not hate me if I kicked her to the curb. I just know she had nowhere to go. She does not make money. Well, that I know if she is selling sex, I don't know. Reaching the door, I hear her talking. Sounds like she is on the phone.

"Yes, I know, but she never gives me the money. She is like her father, greedy with each cent. Carl, I want to be with you. I know the only way is if we move. Your wife will not give up her home. Okay, I will tonight. I will ask her tonight.

God, I hate I could only hear her side. She wants money. This should be fun. Opening the door, I see her cleaning. The look on my face must say it all. She never cleans a thing at all.

Wow, you're cleaning, that's new. Is there an occasion happening that I don't know about?"

"No, silly girl. Can't your mother clean up the house? After all, you do so much. I just wanted to help."

Right, you wanted to help. Play your cards right, Scarlett. She does not know what you know. Let her clean. One less thing you need to do today.

"I am going to head upstairs and take a shower. You know I feel after a run."

This water feels so heavenly. Do I have to get out? Maybe stay here for a while and work this all out. How much money could she ask for to leave and not come back? I need to have this typed up. My father taught me that. When ever you deal with money, always have the terms and conditions written out. That way, they can't come back for more and change things up. Both parties sign it and get it stamped by A notary, so it's a legal document.

Making my way downstairs, my mother is holding flowers. They are beautiful. What man sends her flowers? She had none before. Must be Carl.

"Sugar, these came for you. A delicate boy dropped them off. I told you were upstairs. He could go up, he said no and asked to make sure you get them."

For me? This can't be, this must be a prank from Vanessa for that happen earlier today. They smell beautiful, like a Field of wildflowers on a spring day. There is a card with them. My eyes widen as my mind intakes the words written.

I know I am new town. You don't know me for the next guy around. Please understand I am not a follower. I can give a damn what this town says about you. You caught my eye with just a smile. I want to get to know you for a long while. If you please accept these flowers for whatever I did to hurt you. I am not here to play games or to meet every girl in town. Scarlett, please try to get to know me and if you don't like who I am, I promise to leave you alone. Jake.

He got me flowers. I have never gotten flowers before. Is this for real? This has to be a dream. Did I hit my head, and I am passed upstairs?

"Sugar, who is the boy? He looked very nice, no one I have seen in town before. Where did you meet him?"

All the questions brought me back to reality. This is real. I am holding the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. Looking up at my mom. I smiled. "Just a new guy in town." Walking away to put them in water with a silly school girl grin. I never had one before. This I am tools for a silly grin. Not going to lie, I like the feel it gives me inside.

Starting on dinner, she has not said a word about money. I wonder when she is going to ask me. I know she will think of a clever way to. Maybe i should just give it to her so she will leave. Then maybe this town will let me be. They might even see I am nothing like her.

"That smells delicious, sugar. What are you making?"

"Daddy's homemade soup. I missing him a lot lately so I thought this would give me some Comfort."

She just smiled and walked away. She never should have any emotion when he died or even comfort me when losing my father. It was like she was cold inside. I remember all the amazing times we had when Daddy was well. I did not imagine those times? Maybe I did. Maybe she never was happy with him. I don't know, but I will always keep him in my heart.

Setting the table, I noticed her looking out at the wind. This must drive her crazy, not knowing how to ask. It's not my problem, it's hers and I will not make it easy on her. She needs to be a woman about it and ask me for the money. I still have not decided if I will help her or not. I guess this is a good time for me to think about it and know what I am going to do. It's better that I know I mean how would I react if it came out of the blue.
