Part 46
Sean wrapped his arms around Mark's neck, leaning into him to kiss him. Mark's hands drifted up his back, slipping under the crop top to slid over his smooth skin. Sean shivered from the contact, breaking the kiss to tell him a bit breathlessly. "Don't. I'm anxious enough as it is. I don't know if my heart can bare to beat any faster." Mark lowered his arms to wrap around his waist instead. Sean rested his chin on Mark's shoulder, closing his eyes to try and relax. Against his ear though, Mark growled to him playfully. "I am VERY jealous of him now... You owe me for putting those images in my head." Sean chuckled, opening his eyes to rub Mark's back comfortingly. Nate slid up to the gate, fanning himself with his hat and using his bandana to wipe sweat off his face. His coach gripped the back of his neck, pulling him in close to tell him something with a brilliant grin. Nate nodded, raising his feet for his coach to put his skate guards on him. Once they were on, Nate made his way toward the Kiss & Cry with a plushy of an electric guitar that he got off the ice.
Sean pulled away from Mark to see the board. Mark slipped behind him, holding his hips. Sean didn't know why he was so anxious. He wasn't afraid of losing to Nate. Nate was an underdog and his friend. Mark kissed the back of his shoulder, reminding Sean to take a deep breath. Sean inhaled slowly, then huffed it out as he spotted Quintin out of the corner of his eye. Glancing in his direction, he watched Quintin grip the rink wall tightly. Quintin's face was twisted up into a scowl. Nate's performance really got under his skin. Quintin looked over his shoulder and then did a double take. Sean followed his eyes to Rasputin who stood a few feet away. Sean blinked in just as much surprise. Rasputin was leaning on the bars to the audience seating and chatting nicely with Stacy. Stacy took Rasputin's hand, moving in to whisper something into his ear. Sean stiffened as he saw Quintin rushing across the distance to him. Stacy noticed too but acted casual as she let his hand go in a weird way.
Rasputin curled his fingers into a tight fist, then turned around to face Quintin. Quintin grabbed Rasputin's arm tightly, shooting Stacy a dark glare before practically dragging Rasputin through the crowd toward the locker room. Sean thought about following him but stopped himself when he saw Stacy beckoning him over. Sean tapped Mark's leg to get his attention and then made his way over to Stacy. Leaning over the bars, she told Sean over the music. "Girls locker room. Meet us there." Stacy then quickly made her way out toward the woman's side of the rink. Sean looked at Mark who shrugged but led the way around discreetly. The scores came up on the board and excitement roared through the stadium. Nate had first place so far. Felix was going up next. Walking up to the women's locker room, Sean hesitated. There were no female skaters here... but it still didn't make walking in there ok for him. Mark knocked on the door just to be safe. Stacy opened the door, gesturing them inside.
Sean dragged his feet, until Stacy grabbed him to yank him inside faster. Finding the first bench, Sean sat down to immediately ask her. "What happened? Is everything alright?" Stacy nodded, but Matthew stepped out to answer seriously. "Depends on how you look at it." Mark crossed his arms, leaning back against a locker as he grimly mumbled out. "Oh great... What now?" Matthew raised a folder, dropping it onto the bench as he stated out casually. "After recording Rasputin's little stunt on the ice... I noticed something. After some research, I printed off some images you might find VERY interesting." Sean picked up the folder to look over the printed pictures inside from Nationals and places he didn't recognize. However, he didn't recognize the person in these pictures. Matthew pulled a paper from the folder of a social media screenshot and handed it to Mark, saying almost in disbelief. "You wanna know why no one knows that Rasputin has a twin? How his twin is able to come and go without being caught?"
Matthew gestured to the paper, telling them all bluntly. "Rasputin's twin identifies as a woman. At the age of fifteen, Ralph officially changed his name to Roslyn. No one has noticed because if he's not on the ice... He's dressed as a woman. The ISU has him registered as his sister. Roslyn has been to every single event that Rasputin has been to." Matthew paused for just a moment to catch his breath, then added excitedly. "It gets better. Roslyn is the one with talent. NOT Rasputin. Look." Matthew pulled more pictures from the folder to lay them out over the bench, before saying a little rushed. "At their first Nationals, Roslyn was the center point. However, having a woman's name in a male sport..." Stacy interjected quickly for him. "The ISU wouldn't allow it. So, they used Rasputin's name in order to compete. But why use her brother at all? Why not use her old name?" Matthew pointed at Stacy with a smirk, replying just as quickly. "I wondered that myself. Turns out that Quintin is the one that got them into the sport. He's their uncle."
Mark looked over the paper in his hand, muttering out a bit darkly. "He's trying to build up a family reputation. Show that powerful skaters run in his family. You saw that first routine... It was a bold show of force. A skater only has so much stamina to perform. Quintin saw this as a way of getting an edge on the competition. All while setting records with the ISU that no one could possibly break. That sneaky son of a bitch..." Matthew nodded, picking up a paper to say coolly. "As they got more popular, Roslyn took the back seat and Rasputin took to the spotlight. It's why Rasputin's first routines are usually so poor. Rasputin was trained to skate. He has no natural talent... but Roslyn... She has talent." Stacy took a paper from Sean to look at before asking Matthew. "So, who tried to drop Sean on the ice?" Matthew turned to face her, answering much calmer now. "My money is on Rasputin. On my tape, I got a brief look at what I assume was a switch."
Sean opened his mouth to rebuff that, but Matthew held up a hand to stop him and said quickly. "Hang on. Before you call me out. Listen. Right as the spotlight turned to Sean and Nate... Quintin beckoned who I believe to be Roslyn to the gate. It was crowded... So, I don't know for sure. But they went to the locker room and then when they came back... Rasputin shot across the ice straight for Sean." Stacy handed the paper back to Sean, openly admitting. "I believe this theory more and more... Just now when I gave your note to Rasputin. He did seem... less of the playboy that I imagined. He even asked what shampoo I use on my hair..." Sean smirked at her, then asked Matthew curiously. "This is all the proof we need to get them disqualified, right?" Matthew hung his head, grimly shaking his head. Sean smacked the folder to the bench as Matthew told him honestly. "Quintin has the ISU thinking we are trying to pull something dirty. Even with everything that I have... It's not solid evidence."
Mark shrugged, asking sternly. "Why not?" Matthew took a deep breath, then replied seriously. "You think the ISU wants to charge in and tell Roslyn to lift her skirt? This is a structure with no foundation. We show this right now... the ISU will lockdown until they figure this out. They'll want to resolve the issue quickly in order to carry on. Which means-" Mark finished by grumbling out. "They could just decide to drop them both." Matthew nodded, saying just as grimly. "Sean's season will be over." Sean shrugged, mumbling out. "What you're saying is that until we can prove the connection between Rasputin and Roslyn... We've got nothing?" Matthew nodded, but told him hopefully. "What we need is Roslyn's word against her brother. If she calls out her brother and Quintin. The ISU will have all the proof they need to disqualify them without incident." Sean leaned forward on his knees, running his hands through his hair.
Groaning loudly, Sean lifted his head back up to mutter out. "If Roslyn loves skating as much as me... She won't do that. She gets disqualified for this and..." Sean locked guilty eyes on Mark, who finished without hesitation. "She'll never be able to come back." Sean huff heavily, uttering under his breath. "If I was her... I don't think I'd give it up." Mark tilted his head back against the locker, replying nicely. "If she shows up to meet you... Just try to bring it up. Maybe this isn't what she wanted." Sean nodded, then climbed to his feet. Matthew reached out to shake Mark's hand, informing him casually. "I'll keep my eyes open to anything else that comes up... but be careful. I only came across this stuff on a fluke." Matthew withdrew a folded paper from his pocket to give Mark. Sean walked up to Mark to see what it was. Mark let go of Matthew's hand to unfold it, revealing a social media picture of Roslyn getting the tattoo of a compass on her wrist. The caption above it read; 'For those days when I need to find my own way.'
Matthew pointed to the paper, discreetly whispering to them. "This post was removed an hour after it was posted. Lucky for me... Nothing on the internet truly vanishes. I've been watching their social medias since they started picking a fight with Sean... I'm glad I did." Mark folded the paper back up, while Sean told Stacy sympathetically. "Never thought about why someone would get a tattoo like that. Do you think that Roslyn feels... lost?" Stacy thought about it a minute. She then looked up at him and honestly answered. "If I had to pretend to be someone that I wasn't... Ya. I'd feel lost." Mark checked the time on his watch, tapping Sean's arm as he said. "We should get ready. Rasputin will be going out onto the rink soon. And if we're right... It will be Roslyn." Matthew checked his watch, telling them. "Ya, you two should get back anyway. It will look too suspicious to the ISU if you're gone too long."
Matthew began to collect up all his papers, while Stacy told them to follow her. Stacy made a show of trying to adjust and fix Sean's costume as they moved back out toward the rink. Tony Tornado was leaving the Kiss & Cry with the most disappointed look on his face. Sean looked up at the board. Nate was still in the lead with Felix just behind him and Tony placing under Felix. According to the announcer, Tony's fall on his Quadruple jump cost him BIG. Sean made his way back as Rasputin walked up to the gate. Sean took notice of the way Quintin spoke into his ear, then struck his back to encourage him out onto the ice. Sean nudged Mark, telling him discreetly. "It's Roslyn. See the patch on his wrist." Mark nodded, pulling him closer to watch. Roslyn flipped up a sheer black hood sliding out to the center of the rink as the people in the stands cheered. Stopping before the judges, Roslyn raised her arms up high and clapped loudly to a beat. That had been her signal.
Instantly from the speakers, the song 'Rasputin' began to start up. Some of the people in the audience even began to clap along to the beat. Sean grabbed Mark's arm to hold him. Something told him that there was a reason that Rasputin wasn't the one dancing to this. Was this a slight jab at her brother? Nate jerked him from his thoughts by handing him a CD and telling him with a smile. "You helped me. So, I took the liberty of tweaking your music like we talked about. This should help you stand out. Give them hell, Sean." Sean pulled himself from Mark to hug Nate. Thanking him over the music, Sean pulled away adding hopefully. "See you in the Championships?" Nate punched his shoulder lightly, stating out. "You better. Or I'm going to think you threw the competition for me. Don't worry though. I'll be there to send you out there." Without another word, Nate slipped off toward the locker room. Turning back to Mark, Sean handed the CD to Mark.
Mark took it, tapping Sean on the head with it as he told him over the music. "I hope you two know what you're doing..." Sean quickly kissed Mark, giving him a broad smile afterward. To Be Continued...
