Chapter 7: Something's Off
Yolanda held her head as she woke up with a splitting headache, she hadn't taken notice of her surroundings as of yet and just thought she was stuck sleeping away a few hours on the maze's ground. Once she collected herself she looked around in confusion to find herself in her bedroom. As her feet touched the soft carpet floor she pondered of the events that unfolded. Meeting Jareth, Hoggle, being lost in the maze, it was all too confusing. She found herself walking down the stairs and into the kitchen where her family sat at the table waiting for her. She shuttered as their eyes watched her. She sat.
"So um...daddy, I wanted to apologize." She said being very careful not to start another fight. Her father looked up at her confused as he eats his breakfast. "Apologize for what baby doll?" The questioned had stuns her, was he messing with her, they barely fought so any fight is a big one. There was no way he didn't remember, she decides to press on. "For my behavior last night...I know you want what's best for me its just I feel a bit...out of control." She said expecting him to lecture her. When it didn't come she looked at him.
"Oh that. Well I guess your brother and I have a been a small bit controlling. But we intend to change that. Now go ahead and eat up. Your grandma worked hard to make you your favorite." He father spoke with such a matter a fact tone that it almost scared her. She was hesitant but she spoke again.
"But...Sarah is dead..." She said. It was silent before her family looked worried.
"You had that dream again didn't you?" Her brother Seán asked as he goes to her. She was confused. "Dream? What dream?" She asked.
Her brothers and father looked at her worried, before they could speak Sarah walks in with a cup of tea in one hand and a plate in the other.
"Oh Yolanda, you're up dear. Did you sleep well?" Sarah asked as she slowly hobbled her way to the table.
"No she had the dream again" Seán spoke.
"The one with the banana cream pies and her being in her undies at school?" Sarah asked, which made everyone shutter that the thought of that dream. Damian spoke up. "No, the one where you passed away." Sarah paused then looked her her granddaughter.
"Oh sweet pea. You know in got going away for a long while." Sarah reassures Yolanda as she sat beside her, gently placing her hand on top of hers as a sign of comfort. Yolanda tensed a bit.
' There's no way this is possible!' Yolanda thinks. ' None of this can be real, it's almost like...a dream..' She thoughts continue as they bore their eyes through her, obviously not maliciously but the way one's direct family member might do when they knew something was wrong in you mind but you were to stubborn to share it. She looks up.
"Sorry. Maybe I'm not getting enough sleep." She lies. Dean smiled and waved his hand as if waving it off. "Hey don't worry about it. Come on sis, we better leave now if we want to make it to school on time. We have to put gas in the dirt bikes." He explained with a smile. Yolanda's head shot up. She never got to rode the dirt bikes to school but she always wanted to, now with the chance at hand she had to take it. After taking large bites of breakfast she ran off and got ready quickly as excitement over took her. The hum of the engines made her heart swoon as her brothers revved them up in unison, then they all start off on their way to school. As the wind whipped through her hair and a smile forms on her face Yolanda begins to think, just a faint part in the back of her mind spoke.
' Though I still wonder...did I dream it all? It felt so real?'
She couldn't believe it still but she was willing to go long with it all, maybe it was real maybe it was fake, she was going to see how it turns out.
