~Chapter Eleven~

Captured by the Horde

Sapphire eyes met with silver, "Gwiliweth will you stay here?"

Gwiliweth smiled with a nod. "Of course!"

The red head watches as Medlinya, Legolas, and Gimli race into the forest of Emyn Muil leaving her behind with Sam, Pippin, and Merry. Gwiliweth felt the threat of something dangerous coming from the direction where the three had vanished. Her silver eyes glanced around to the hobbits beside her, "Let's go try to find Frodo."

Merry watched the red head warily, "But Lady Medlinya said to stay here!" he snapped.

Gwiliweth locked eyes with bold blue eyes of the hobbit, "I am aware of that, but standing here will not help Frodo when the horde of Uruk are after him." With that being said, the silver eyed Elf sprinted into the forest with three hobbits running after her.

Crunch.

Crackle.

Crunch.

The dried leaves on the forest floor harmoniously crackled under the four pairs of feet sprinting through the wood searching for Frodo.

"Mr. Baggins?!"

"Frodo?!"

"Where are you, Frodo!?"

The three hobbits called for the missing hobbit. Gwiliweth pivoted around the hobbits frantically, waving her arms around for the three to stop. "You must be quiet. The Uruk-hai may hear you. We must search for him as quietly as we can." Pippin and Merry nodded understanding without question. Gwiliweth knew Sam and had a notion that the orders did not soothe well with his loyalty towards Frodo. Nonetheless, Sam obeyed the she-elf and they quietly set out again.

The pace that Gwiliweth had made was too fast for the hobbits. Without the red-head noticing, Pippin and Merry hid themselves in a hollow of a tree, as they began hearing the grunts and yelling of a distant Uruk army.

Gwiliweth was out of sight and so was Sam, though no one knew where the loyal friend of Frodo had disappeared. The two best friends huddled together in the safety of their sanctuary. After a few minutes of silence, Frodo appeared feverishly sprinting downhill toward the hiding hobbits then stumbles to the ground. Crawling behind a tree the sounds of Uruk grew louder and louder as the monsters crash through the forest after any living thing.

"Frodo!" Merry whispered over to the exposed hobbit.

Frodo catches sight of the two hobbits watching him in the hollow, a few feet away. "Hide here, quick!" Merry urged as he motioned his hand towards the refuge of the hollow.

"Come on!" Pippin added. Frodo stares at his friends, than slowly shakes his head as his eyes showed great sadness. Pippin confusedly turns to Merry, "What's he doing?"

Merry and Frodo lock eyes. "He's leaving." Merry said understanding the look in Frodo's eyes.

Pippin was horror-struck, "No!" The hobbit stands to his feet and makes a move towards Frodo.

Merry grabs the arm of his friend, "Pippin!"

Uruks come crashing through the forest, both hobbits were now exposed in the sights of the orcs. Merry takes one more glance down to their friend, "Go Frodo." Then turns his attention to the approaching Uruks, "Hey you!" Merry hollered pointing at the Uruks

Pippin joins in waving his arms around, "Over here!"

The Uruks growl in aggravation and chase after the two brave hobbits in response.

Snap.

Crackle.

"Urraaaahhhh" the Orcs deeply howled, ready for the chase. Branches snap, leaves crackle, and the grunts of the Uruks fill the air in the forest.

"Follow us!" Merry yells again as the two hobbits sprint off in a different direction than Frodo's escape down the hill.

~~~~
Gwiliweth had lost track of all three of the hobbits. Her eyes scoped the forest around her, desperately hoping that the hobbits were just a little ways behind. The red head had been caught up with trying to find Frodo that she did not think to keep the others nearby. Regretting telling th hobbits to not call for Frodo she kicked a tree hard, yet it did not hurt one bit. Even for how frustrated with herself  the elf was, Gwiliweth worried for their safety and had none of the brightest idea to where they hobbits were in the vast forest.
Suddenly a bellowing noise echoed like a shout of many voices under a cavernous roof. The sound of a familiar horn. Echoing throughout the forest than into her ear drums, her eyes widen, "Boromir!" The Horn of Gondor's location by her impeccable hearing, was very close to where she was. Heading south, down the hillside she spots Boromir fighting off an entire army of Uruk-hai with his mighty great-sword. Standing behind the Man of Gondor stood the two hobbits, Merry and Pippin.
Gwiliweth grasped the handles of her trusty daggers and stabbed an Orc in the neck. With a swift kick, the Orc tumbled down the slope bombarding into other Orcs along the way. With her swift feet and proficient dagger skills, the she-elf slashed her way down to the side Boromir. His brown eyes spotted her in relief.
Someone was helping him fight off the Uruk-hai.
"Find the halflings! Find the she-elf!" an deep voice echoed through the trees. Gwiliweth froze in confusement. The she-elf? Medlinya?
Distracted by her thoughts, an pitch arrow pierced through the air. Her silver eyes spotted the weapon just a little too late. Following the airborne weapon, the arrow punctured the chest of Boromir with a thunk in slow motion to the terrified red-head. So slowly his clothing and skin teared as the arrow stabbed the Man of Gondor. A ear-twitching scraping sound of the arrow gliding across the rib bones, than a deafening crack from the now broken bone and the arrow together. Finally a twanging sound of the arrow of which is stopped far enough in to stick but still with a good quantity of the arrow's shaft sticking out.
"BOROMIR!" Gwiliweth screamed.
A pitch black arrow completely penetrated through his Gondorian foot-soldier armor. The Man paused for a few seconds before swinging his mighty sword continuing to fight. Her body shook in wrath as her raging silver eyes for the Uruk-hai who had released the arrow. A dark Orc holding a black bow grins at his shot and continues to advance towards Boromir. The red head swung her dagger at the line of Orcs in her way to kill the monster before Boromir weakens by any more arrows. As she stepped forward the Man of Gondor held her back. "Stay with the hobbits, Gwiliweth." Boromir ordered tiredly. His sincere brown eyes met with her silver for a split second and the red-head bowed her head quickly.
Obeying his word, Gwiliweth stayed behind the Man of Gondor with the hobbits as silent tears run down her dirty, sweaty face. Another arrow gored into Boromir's chest, the Man heaved almost stumbling to his knees. His eyes glance back to the petrified hobbits watching their protector with teary eyes. With a yell, the Man of Gondor pushed through swinging his sword into another Orc more Uruks. A third and last arrow pierces through through the air striking Boromir into the heart, this time the Man falls to his knees unable to fight.
A mesh of Uruks scoop up Gwiliweth, Merry, and Pippin off their feet. Merry and Pippin scream out the Man of Gondor's name, while Gwiliweth was too deep in shock to say anything. Her cheeks moist with tears as she watches Boromir face to face with the Uruk aiming his enormous pitch black bow at the defeated, dying man.
The Uruks carry the three captives away from Boromir, into the forest. Gwiliweth glanced over to her terrified companions and knew this is where she needed to be. Even if Boromir had not told her so, she would have given up her safety into the hands of these Uruks to stay beside the two hobbits.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It was not until morning's light, when the band of Uruk-hai marched across the plain with two hobbits and an she-elf bound to the backs of three Uruk-hai. Pippin softly tries to call Merry, who is unconscious with a gash on his right brow.

"Merry." Pippin whispered, "Merry!"  He receives no response.Gwiliweth was separate from the two hobbits near the front. Her keen eyes watch the frightened hobbit call for his friend. Suddenly, a Uruk-hai puts his hand signaling for an halt. After a long night of sprinting up and over steep hills, the Uruk-hai gratefully stop for a brief breather.

A band of filthy orcs approached the Uruks, seemingly to be inpatient. An ugly, hawk-nose orc approached the two leaders of the mesh of the Uruk-hai, "You're late. Our master grows impatient. He wants the Shire-rats now." the orc snarled nastily.

An Uruk stalked closer to the orc threateningly,  "I don't take orders from Orc-maggots. Saruman will have his prize. We will deliver them." The Uruk spat turning on his heel into the crowd of his kind, heading towards the hobbits.

Pippin continued to call for his friend, "Merry! Merry! Wake up! My friend is sick! He needs water. Please!"

The approaching Uruk let out a gruesome cackle, "Sick is he? Give him some medicine, boys!"

Uruks growl in response, as one pours a sticky red liquid into Merry's mouth. The poor hobbit chokes on the liquid causing the enemies to roar in laughter. Pippin witnessed this struck with horror, "Stop it!"

"Can't take his draught!" A Uruk taunted, causing another uproar of snickering.

"Leave him alone!" Pippin hissed.

The leader of the Uruks grinned at the hobbit's words, "Why? You want some?" Pippin responded in silence, "Huh?" The Uruk mocked, leaning his ear to his suddenly quiet captive. A smirk soon was replaced with menacing glare, "Then keep your mouth shut."

Watching the Uruk turning back towards the front of the band of the Uruks, Pippin turns back to his friend,  "Merry."

Merry's eyes blink open and peered over to the hobbit addressing him, "Hello, Pip."

"You're hurt." Pippin pointed out with worry.

A small smile stretched upon the lips of Merry, "I'm fine. It was just an act."

Pippin blinked in bewilderment, "An act?"

"See? I fooled you too. Don't worry about me, Pippin." Merry responded with reassuring smile.

The leader Uruk approached a Uruk who suddenly started smelling the air, "What is it?" His dark eyes examined the sniffling Uruk, "What do you smell?"

The Uruk inhaled the air around him, "Man-flesh."

Gwiliweth's ears pricked up and a small smile of relief swept across her face.

"Aragorn!" Pippin whispered to himself, hearing the notification from the Orc.

"They've picked up our trail! Let's move!" One of the Uruks roared.

At the demand, the Uruk-hai quicken their pace. Uplifted that Aragorn was on his way, Pippin struggled to reach his Elven brooch with his teeth. Clenching the brooch between his teeth he tore it off his cloak, he spits it to the ground. Gwiliweth beamed at the brilliance of the hobbit, 'That is why you are my favorite hobbit! Absolutely clever, Pippin!'

Pippin's eyes found silver orbs surprised, than a smile spread on his dirty face.

Gwiliweth returned a smile and turned her attention to the land around her. Carefully her eyes scanned the plains trying to navigate where the Uruks were taking them. Judging by the sun, the red head predicted that they were going north. Why north? What is to the north? The redhead questioned herself. Her eyes widen as she remembered, "Isengard." the she-elf mumbled to herself.

She knew that for sure Saruman would want the hobbits because of the Ring. Though she was stumped on why a she-elf. Medlinya, her friend, is a special Elf with phenomenal powers over the natural elements and a ability to heal. It is quite possible the White Wizard wanted such abilities to himself to win the war. Yes that was it. Medlinya is a threat, so to remove her is by taking the powers. To kill Medlinya and extract her rightful powers from the she-elf.

Gwiliweth was relieved to know that she was captured rather than Medlinya. The red head would die to save her friend. That wise she-elf had sheltered her and welcomed her into the Old Forest when she had no one. Over the years, they had became close like sisters. Though they never experienced any thing like the journey they were in now, but in a strange way it made the entire group of strangers also close family. New friends striving to survive the forces of evil. The company had seen two deaths of their close family, causing great pain and a grander bond between the remaining Fellowship.

Although Gwiliweth had never in her 2,000 years seen a partnership as what is between Legolas and Medlinya. A bond that causes her envy for her friend. The blonde stranger had been a new face to both Elves of Old Forest. Yet, it seemed as if that Legolas and Medlinya had known each other for ages. They were close, always beside the other whenever they could. Without fail, their eyes would find the other. There were times where the two stared at one another, mesmerized as they enjoyed the other's company.

It was love. Something that Gwiliweth had wanted from Aragorn since they first met in Bree. A while back she had finally realized that could never happen. The Ranger loved his Elf maiden back in Rivendell. His true love's necklace hung around his neck consistently throughout the days she had known Aragorn.

Gwiliweth had understood such since the long journey through Moria. The red headed Elf turned her attention off Aragorn. Boromir had been such a gentleman to her throughout Moria. Through Medlinya and Legolas had not noticed, though the rest of the Fellowship saw a spark between the two red heads. The pair may have not been as close as the two Elves, but the Man of Gondor and the red headed she-elf cared for one another deeply than they could ever tell. Yes Boromir had been so easily distracted by the Ring, but the good within the Man of Gondor was quite obvious to the she-elf. Of course in the beginning when they first encountered each other, the two deathly hated the other. Never would she have thought that his heart would be in her sights. Though as time progressed, the Man had apologized for his wrong at the Council after Gwiliweth had been healed by Medlinya from saving Pippin.

Silent tears spilled from her silver eyes,

Plip.

Plip.

Tear after tear fell to her twine bounded hands as she pondered about the Man she almost fell in love with. The great honorable Man who had risked his life for three of his Fellowship members while being struck by not just one but three arrows.

A hero.

A warrior.

A champion of true heart.

A flashback to Medlinya's smiling face appeared in her mind, "Your heart is that of a lion." The she-elf's soft voice echoed throughout the red head's memories.

Gwiliweth shook her head. 'No' The red head replied back to the words of the past. 'I do not truly have that heart.'

Images of Boromir conquered her mind as she smiled absent-mindedly. 'Through your mind is weak, your heart is great. In battle your heart pours out with every swing and thrust of your mighty sword. Boromir. The Great Man of the West. Your heart is that of a lion. A proud, loyal companion whom I will always treasure deep in my heart. Forever there you shall be.'

 ~~~~~~~~~~~
 As night fell across the plains, the horde of the Uruks halt near at a edge of a forest. Many pant with toil after traveling for so long. "We're not going no further till we've had a breather!" an orc complained.
"Get a fire going!" an Uruk demanded. The three captives were tossed onto the ground with a loud thump off the backs of exhausted Uruk-hai.
Pippin crawled over towards the other two. "Merry! Gwiliweth!" he whispered over.
Merry opens his eyes and solemnly gazes towards the hobbit, "I think... we might have made a mistake leaving the Shire, Pippin."
Gwiliweth frowned at such response and shook her head at the distressed hobbit, "Do not say such folly. If it weren't for you, Frodo and our chance to defeat Sauron would spoil. We will be alright." the she-elf spoke softly.
Both eyes of the frightened hobbits meet her gaze and slowly nod. A group of Orcs began to chop down the trees in the nearby labyrinth of an entwined forest for firewood. Low inhuman groans and rumbles resound from the woods. A wide-eyed Pippin peered over to Merry, "What's making that noise?"
Merry glances over to the forest, "It's the trees." he mumbled as he stared numbly at the woods before him.
"What?" Pippin asked as his eyes widen even more.
Merry's eyes met with Pippin's, "Do you remember the Old Forest? On the borders of Buckland? Folks used to say that there was something in the water that made the trees grow tall... and come alive."
"Alive?" Pippin gasped.
Merry nodded seriously, "Trees that could whisper. Talk to each other." The hobbit leaned closer to the shocked Pippin, "Even move."
Interrupting the story telling, a Uruk grumbled loudly, "I'm starving!" His eyes glared at the rotten food in his clenching fist, "We ain't had nothin' but maggoty bread for three stinkin' days!"
"Yeah." An orc agreed snarly. "Why can't we have some meat?" His beady black eyes rest on the hobbits and the Elf. A dark grin of hunger twitched onto his green lips, "What about them? They're fresh!"
"They are not for eating!" The seemingly 'leader' roared angrily.
"What about their legs? They don't need those." another Orc whined, "Oh... they look tasty!"
The leader shoved back the Orcs, "Get back scum!"
In response, the other Orcs become restless. "Carve them up!"
A crazed Orc prowls towards the captives with his blade drawn, "Just a mouth full."
"No!" the leader of the horde thundered. The three abductees recoil back in fright at the scene unfurling before them. The leader of the Uruk jumps after thr Orc and slashes off the Orc's head with a dark ebony sword. The decapitated head fell than bounced off the hobbits shoulders, "Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!!"
The Uruk-hai and Orcs cheer and started tearing into the fresh meat, intestines flying, taking their eyes off the hobbits for a while. Merry leans to the hobbit beside him, "Pippin, let's go." Their hands still bound, the hobbits and Gwiliweth try to crawl away.
Suddenly a foot comes down, the three captives slowly gaze up face to face with an hungry Orc. His sword flourished right in front of Pippin's face. "Go on, call for help." the Orc mocked viciously, "Squeal! No one's gonna save you now!"
Gwiliweth's silver eyes widened in fear, her heart thumped in her chest like a thundering hooves of horses. A spear suddenly soars through the air striking the Orc's back. Chaos ensues as Riders of Rohan burst out from their hiding places and ambush the Orcs.
"Pippin!" Merry gestured for them to make their escape.
The hobbits and Gwiliweth try to escape from the mayhem to the forest by crawling, dodging bodies and stomping feet of horses. Suddenly Pippin turns onto his back and looks up to a pair of thrashing hooves bearing down on him.
"ARGH!" He cries, than rolls over, avoiding the hooves. The three prisoners crawl frantically away from the battle.
Merry rubs his bonds furiously against the sharp edge of a weapon as Pippin does the same. Gwiliweth soon shimmied her wrists out of her restraints. When their hands were freed, the hobbits run away from the battle scene, dodging under a horse and trying to stay out of harms way. As they flee, the Orc grabs Pippin by his belt and clings on.
"The belt!" Merry informs. Pippin undoes his belt and the angry Orc is left holding on to it. "Run!"
The three run for it into Fangorn Forest.
 The dark.... unforgiving... dangerous forest of Fangorn.
