Chatper Eight: Kid
A/N: See what I did there? Yeah? Okay, good.

"Kiiiiiiiiiiiiid-kun!" I heard someone cry out from outside. I immediately recognized the voice.
Liz.
"Onee-chan!" Patty clapped as I swung the front door of my manor open. My face lit up from seeing her, but I then frowned because tears were streaming down her face.
She threw herself into my arms, and knocked both of us over, onto the floor. "Liz? What's wrong?" I asked her, and hugged her tight to my chest.
"I'm sorry..." She muttered and buried her face in the crook of my neck. I blushed from her actions, my actions, and our close proximity.
"Naughty, onee-chan!" Patty laughed from behind us. "Already making moves on Kid-kun as soon as you walk in the door!" She giggled.
"I-It's not like that!" I stuttered as Liz just ignored her and continued to cry in my arms... on the floor... on top of me!
"Of course it's not!" Patty giggled and ran upstairs, leaving us alone.
"I'm sorry..." Liz repeated as I sat up and held her in my lap.
"Sorry for what? Liz, what did you do? What happened?" I questioned, and tried to get her to look me in the eyes, but she wouldn't lift her head up.
"I don't know!" She cried. "I'm so sorry..." She whispered, yet again! I don't think she was talking to me when she was apologizing either, I think she means to apologize to someone else.
"Liz, look at me." I firmly grasped her shoulders.
Liz shook her head. "I can't..." She whispered. "I'm a monster..."
"Liz." I said as lifted her chin with my finger and looked her in the eyes.
She stared into my eyes, and stopped crying. It was then, that I had realized how beautiful her blue eyes were. Her skin was soft, her hair was silky and smooth...
"S-sorry!" I blushed as we both looked away. I caught a slight blush creek over her cheeks, and I almost smiled. Almost.
"Now, can you tell me where you've been without freaking out?" I ask as I stand and offer her my hand.
"I-" Liz's voice was cut off by a bloodcurdling scream that came from her own mouth. Her body jolted and I grabbed her waist to steady her.
"Liz!" I shouted and grabbed her arm.
"Nee-chan!" Patty called from the stairs.
"I can't!" She sobbed. "It'll just-" Liz cried out again as her body convulsed once more.
"Okay! Enough!" I looked at my weapon worriedly and Patty ran downstairs.
By now, I was sweating buckets, my head hurt like hell, and I wanted to throw up. I had no clue what was happening, what drugs Liz had been taking, what magic she was under, what she's trying to hide... I was clueless.
Everything just hurt, and I had to put in a 110% effort just to hold my own head up. I wanted to just close my eyes and go to sleep, everything would be better if I...just...
"LIZ!" I was crying now, down on my knees leaning over my beautiful partner. "Look at me! Please! Just say anything goddammit!"
I saw Liz glance over to the corner of the room where Patty was franticly trying to work the phone, but her hands were shaking, and she couldn't dial the number correctly. I slid his arms underneath her small shoulders and underneath her long legs, picking her up in my arms, and ran out the door. Patty wasn't too far behind, but I couldn't really tell because it started pouring rain.
"Stay with me Liz, we're almost there." I whispered in Liz's ear, tears streaked my face, and I tried to get Patty to just stay calm. I needed one of us to be strong, and it wasn't going to be me.
The wind howled and pellets of rain stung my face as I struggled to run through the fog. My shoes slipped on the now muddy ground with every step, and every breath took extra effort.
I looked down at Liz, she was shivering and trying to pull me closer. "Kid..." She whispered. "I'm not going to make it-"
"Don't say that!" I shouted. "You're going to be okay! I promise!"
"I can't see anything!" She cried. "Everything just went black! Kid! Help me, I can't see anything!" Liz shuddered and fisted my jacket.
"I'm right here, Liz! Don't give up on me just yet!" I looked over my shoulder, and then called out to Patty.
She gave a quick nod and transformed into a pistol as I summoned Beezlebub.(A/N: de fuq? is that even how you spell it???) It was difficult trying to balance with Liz in my arms, but I managed until we arrived at Stein's.
A million things were running through my head all at once. I was just now realizing that Liz was really hurt. What if she doesn't make it? What if I never get to tell her? What if I lose my weapon?
I was shaking, and I knew that it wasn't going to be long before I gave into my emotions and broke down. I may look tough, act stable, and seem like the reaper's son... but I'm not. That's why I chose Liz and Patty to be my partners. They were tough, strong, they could deal with their emotions, they could take care of themselves, and they were strong. Not to mention very symmetrical.
My point is, I needed someone to lean on, no. Not just one person. I needed two people. I didn't just like having Patty and Liz as partners, I needed them. And as much as I hated to admit it, I was a coward. My weapons were what made me strong. Without them, I was nothing.
"Stein!" I called out and bursted through his front doors, tracking in mud and rainwater. "Stein! It's Liz! Something happened to her, please! Where are you?"
"Professor Stein!" Patty shouted down halls and through doorways but there was no reply.
"Shit!" I cried and laid Liz down on an operating table.
"Liz..." I whispered and grabbed her hand. "Please don't leave me, I need you..."
"K-Kid..." Liz whispered back. "R-resonate... with me... just. One. Last... t-time..."
I stared at my weapon with my eyes opened wide. I was shocked. 'Is she really saying goodbye? Is she really giving up on me? Does she really think her life isn't really that worth it?'
I nodded my head solemnly.
"Soul Resonance, Go!"
