Not A Boy

(A/N: This might sound strange but I was looking at GIF's on Tumblr and came across this GIF set of Hiccup and his expressions from when he was 15 and now (20) and I noticed how much he grew up and...yeah. Just read to find out. This Author's Note is horribly long, fuck.)

The fire within the Club House slowly died down, reminding Astrid that it was well over midnight and that she should go to bed. How could she though? They left Dragon's Edge in the morning after a long year or two calling this place, their home.

The time they spent here, the effort they put into building this place after how they imagined it, the events that went down.

But, with Krogan and the Dragon Flyers already defeated, it was time to go back. They came out here to explore and help Johann and it turned out to be more than just exploring and helping.

Johann eventually turned on them but, with him out of the way how, things were as calm as they could be.

Astrid sighed as she watched the two Dragon Eye's on the table beside her. She looked at Hiccup'a remake of it for extra long. She had come so close to loosing him on so many occasions and still, he managed to get out with only a few cuts and bruises.

She's had her eye on him since the day he kidnapped her and dropped her off on a tree. It always got a laugh out of her these day thinking back on it. Ever since she was small, she had seen him walk around village carrying stuff for the forge. It fascinated her at how good he was at making things, - hence the Dragon Eye he made.

She had been so wrong about him and it still made her heart ache. She had said and done so many horrible things to him and, when she apologized the day he woke up after the Red Death, he had told her it was fine and that he understood why.

She had mistaken him and her mind had carved out this idea of him as a useless boy because that's what the village said.

She had been so wrong in so many ways because Hiccup was simply just the most amazing, sweet, caring and compassionate person she could ever imagine. And, when she thought she had figured him out, he came up with something even sweeter and better that just blew her away.

Hiccup was truly an amazing young man and she can't do anything other than thanking him for being the way he is.

She flipped the Dragon Eye in her hand and looked at the front. Hiccup had made a Night Fury themed Dragon Eye with Toothless' trademark colors; red and black.

Carefully putting the Dragon Eye down beside the other one, she lifted her head and looked over at Hiccup's hut. Wait, just a second ago, the light's hadn't been on. Did Toothless maybe light a fire to keep the hut warm? Or did Hiccup wake up? She really hoped for the latter; she wanted to see him so bad.

Carefully standing up, she walked around the stools scattered around the table and slowly made her way over to his hut, hoping he was awake. She didn't want to feel bad about waking him up if Toothless has lit the fire.

She kicked a pebble on the ground and it flew into his door. "Guð fjandinn," She cursed under her breath. [1]

"Hello?" Hiccup's voice was heard from inside the hut and she sighed in relief. At least she didn't wake him up. She knocked on his door when she reached him, chewing on her lip.

The odd footsteps she had grown accustomed to made her smile and the door opened before her. "Astrid? What are you- why are you up?" Hiccup asked.

She wanted to say something but, how could she. Her betrothed stood in front of her with nothing other than pants and a single sock. She cleared her throat and tried not to stare at him. "I-I couldn't sleep. Did I w-wake you up?" She asked, a stuttering mess.

"No, I just woke up for some reason," Hiccup said with a small smirk, knowing fully well why she was stuttering and reached out his hand. "Come in," He said and gave her a smile.

Astrid slipped her hand into his slowly and let him pull her into his hut. Hiccup pulled the leaver for his door and it closed behind them.

"Good evening, Astrid," Hiccup said with a small smile. "Hiccup, it's two hours past midnight, what are you talking about?" She said, her voice a little playful.

"Well, I don't want to say, "Good Night," yet because I don't want you to leave," Hiccup said and leaned up, pressing a kiss to her temple and staying like that for a few seconds.

"Oh, gods, Hiccup," Astrid said, rolling her eyes with a smile. Said young man pulled back and looked at his betrothed. He couldn't help but crack a smile at her smile.

Astrid pulled back to look at him. "Why are you...you know, shirtless though?" She asked. "Does it bother you?" Hiccup asked, looking at her and observing her. "What? No! I'm just wondering...I haven't seen you like this yet."

He noticed how her cheeks tinted a nice pink that complimented her beautiful blue eyes. "Well, it was warm today and I didn't bother sleeping with a shirt on- Astrid, you're staring," Hiccup interrupted.

The blondes eyes snapped up and met his before she blushed madly and covered her face in her hands.

"S-sorry, it's just...you're all grown up," She said. "Yeah, that's what a few years does do you, you know?" Hiccup asked as he put a few more logs into the fire.

A smile cracked itself onto her lips. He's such a dork. "Yeah..." She said and watched as he walked up to her.

Hiccup took her hands and placed them on his shoulders before wrapping his arms around her waist. "Is there something wrong?" He asked. Astrid shook her head. "No, nothing's wrong. It's just...this is the first time I see you like this without all the bandages and you lying half head on a bed," Astrid said, tears glistening in her eyes as she remembered the time after the Red Death.

Hiccup gave her a confused look. "The Red Death, Hiccup," She said. "Ah. Yeah, sorry you had to see me like that. I was a fishbone- I mean, I still am but back then was just horrible."

"What are you talking about? Fishbone? In your dreams, Hiccup. You grew into a handsome young man. Look at you," Astrid said and gestured at him.

"You just gestured to all of me," He deadpanned. Astrid couldn't contain herself and burst out laughing. Hiccup laughed with her for a few moments before lifting a hand from her waist and placing it on her cheek, - something he's done a few times now - and looked at her.

"I love you, M'lady," He said, his voice sincere and honest. "And I love you," Astrid whispered under her breath before his lips met hers in a small make out.

Her arms wrapped around his neck slowly and her hand trailed into his hair, grasping a fistful of it and tugging at it softly.

She wished she could stay like this forever. However, they needed air and pulled away. Hiccup pulled her closer, - if that was even possible - and laid his chin on her shoulder.

Astrid slipped an arm from around his neck and wound it around his back, her hand trailing up and down to feel the skin on his back.

She was facing his hut and looked around, searching for the black dragon that was always beside Hiccup. She found him hanging upside down from a pole.

Pulling away, she smiled. Hiccup watched her and saw her looking up at something. Turning around, he cracked a smile too.

"His favorite position. He looks hideous like that sometimes though," Hiccup pointed out. Astrid laughed. "I bet he does," She said though laughs. "He looks like a bat."

Hiccup smiled at her.

"You're beautiful," He said and watched her go stiff and turn towards him. "What?"

"I said; you're beautiful, Astrid," Hiccup repeated and smiled at her. A smile made itself onto her lips and stayed like that.

"Thank you."

"Do I have to go to sleep?" Astrid asked as the sun was starting to rise at the horizon. "Not really. Everyone will be up within an hour anyway and we leave in a few," Hiccup said sitting up from his bed.

They were laying across his bed, the back of their knees meeting the edge of the bed and their feet on the floor.

"Although, when we get home," Hiccup started and turned towards Astrid, looking down at her. "We can sneak off and take a nap on the Cove."

Astrid laughed and pulled him down beside her. "That, we can do," She said and shifted, laying on her side beside him.

Looking at each other, Hiccup smiled. Astrid watched him before shifting once again and placing her knees on either side of his waist, sitting down in his lap.

She had removed her skirt and shoulder pads for comforts sake. Hiccup's hands landed on the side of her thighs, his thumb moving over her leggings.

She leaned down and placed her lips against him, kissing him. Her hands landed beside his head and on his chest, holding herself up.

Astrid was more than happy that she would get married to this young man one day. He was her everything and she loved him with everything she had. He was amazing in every possible way and she couldn't thank him enough for being there for her when no one else was.

She had truly been blessed by the gods above.

(A/N: "Guð fjandinn," means, "God damnit," in Icelandic and I think Icelandic is the closest thing you can get to Norse.)
