Desire And Duty
(A/N: Viggo may not be able to get into Hiccup's head but he sure got into Astrid's and it's plaguing her.)
"No! Let me go!" Astrid yelled. Viggo had surprised her with jumping onto Stormfly's back and grabbed her, holding her against him so she wouldn't escape, her ace against her throat.
Viggo only tightened the grip he had around her. "Dragon! Take me to Hiccup!" He said. Stormfly jerked slightly and started to talk up the dormant volcano to where she had last seen Hiccup and her best friend, Toothless.
The Nadder glanced up from time to time, making sure that her rider was alright. One wrong move from Viggo and she wouldn't hesitate with throwing them off and doing some serious damage to the psycho man.
"Why are you doing this, Viggo?" Astrid asked, her hands in fists. "Because I need that Dragon Eye."
Astrid looked down at Stormfly and the dragon looked at her before picking up the pace slightly.
The blonde sighed. "Hiccup doesn't have anything to give you," She said and her thoughts wondered off at Hiccup for a moment.
How would he react at this? What would he do? He couldn't give the Dragon Eye to Viggo. He just couldn't. Everything would be lost if the Dragon Eye would be given back to Viggo.
She'd rather suffer and make Hiccup happy instead of him loosing the Dragon Eye. She rather see him happy and getting to know more instead of him being grumpy and sad and Astrid having to blame herself for this.
"Oh, Astrid," Viggo started. She looked at him, giving him the death look. "Relationships can be so complicated, am I right?" He said and her look softened.
"What-"
He cut her off. "While I've never been in your shoes, I can certainly empathize with your situation," He continues and looked at her.
"Oh, really, Viggo? I seriously doubt that," She fired back at him, eyes burning holes into everything he had. The look she was giving him meant nothing else then, "Say one more thing and I will send you to Valhalla myself."
However, he broke her. "Absolutely," Viggo started again and smirked. "To be in love with the man who will be your future chief. I'm not sure how I would balance such a precarious power dynamic. It can certainly complicate things, being in such a situation that Blutes the lines between desire and duty. It must weight heavily on the mind, knowing that you will never be the number one priority in his life. Certainly, you must fall somewhere close behind his Dragon and his tribe, at the very least?"
Astrid looked straight ahead. They where nearing the place where Hiccup had last been seen. However, she wouldn't seem to care at that moment. He broke her.
Viggo broke everything she had.
Maybe, he was right for once. Maybe, she wasn't the number one priority in his life. He was always busy with dragons and inventions. He almost never had time to her. Sure, there's been so many things that has happened in the last few days but, every time she wants to talk to him, he's working in the forge on plans and new inventions for the dragon blade.
The inferno.
Viggo was right.
She fell behind. Only now, did she notice how much she had fallen behind. Looking straight ahead, her vision had been blurred by the tears lining her eyes.
She tried to stay strong for Hiccup because they had arrived.
The rest happened so quick.

Astrid stared into the flames in the middle of the table in the Club House. [1]
Her mind was foggy and she was thinking about everything Viggo had said to her earlier. Wether it was or wasn't true, she was sure that it would come true one day...
She didn't want that to happen.
"Astrid?" His voice caught her off guard and she jumped slightly. Hiccup furrowed his brows and looked at her. "Astrid? Why are you still up? Are you okay?"
The blonde looked at him before looking back into the fire. "Yeah...I'm fine," She said. Hiccup walked up to the table and grabbed a chair, placing it next to hers and sitting down.
"We both know that's not true."
Astrid sighed but she didn't look at him. "Tell me what's wrong," Hiccup urged her.
Astrid sighed again and looked at him. "When we were at the volcano and you argued with Viggo..."
Hiccup looked at her hand grabbed her hands with his, pulling them off of the table and towards him. Astrid turned towards him slightly but she didn't look at him. "Listen, Astrid. Everything I said, I meant it. I would never want to give up the years ahead of me with you for the Dragon Eye. Never. You mean much more to me then that. And, now with the Dragon Eye gone, I can start focusing on the things that mean the most for me..." Hiccup stopped and let go one of her hands, placing it under her chin and lifting her head up. "And, those things are the dragons, the guys around here and you."
She just couldn't look at him. Astrid pulled away and stood up from the chair. "...Astrid?"
"You don't know what Viggo said to me. I'm scared that those things will come true and when they do, you won't care about me."
"What are you talking about, Astrid? What did he say?"
She sighed and turned around to look at him. "He said, "To be in love with the man who will be your future chief. I'm not sure how I would balance such a precarious power dynamic. It can certainly complicate things, being in such a situation that Blutes the lines between desire and duty. It must weight heavily on the mind, knowing that you will never be the number one priority in his life. Certainly, you must fall somewhere close behind his Dragon and his tribe, at the very least?" To the word, Hiccup. You have no idea how that felt for me and-"
He cut her off. He had already crossed the room when she had been talking and now, he placed his hands on her cheeks, his fingers slightly grazing her yaw and neck and he leaned down, his lips an inch away from hers.
What he said next surprised her.
"I love you," Hiccup whispered before closing the distance between them and pressing his lips against hers, his left arm trailing down her neck and arm before reaching her waist and wrapping it around her.
Her skin was burning where he had touched her and his words surprised her. Hiccup pulled back for a second. "Don't believe anything of what that fool said. You're by number one priority right now," He said before pulling her closer and kissing her again.
This time, Astrid was in for it and her arms wound around his back and neck, pulling him as close as possible. Their lips danced with each other's and all of her worries melted away when Hiccup pushed his tongue into her touch, meeting hers.
She made a small, "mmm," sound before letting herself go and leaning into him, wanting to be as close as possible.
They pulled back at the same time, panting slightly. "Hiccup...I..." She trailed off, not knowing what to say. He smiled and leaned his forehead against hers. "I'm always going to be here, okay? Like I said before, there's always going to be a Hiccup and Astrid. Always."
"I...thank you. I love you too."
"Phew. I was worried there for a while," Hiccup joked and pulled back, taking her hands into his. Astrid laughed along with him before gazing into his eyes and he smiled, leaning in for a small kiss.
They met and their lips met for a second before they pulled away. "Come on. It's been a long day. We need to rest."

"Thank you, for everything, Hiccup," Astrid whispered and intertwined her fingers with his. They were laying in his bed, her back to his front and he had his arm around her. "For you, my darling, anything," Hiccup whispered into her neck and a shiver ran down her spine. She took his hand and brought it to her mouth, pressing a kiss to his fingers before lowering his hand and pressing it into her chest, letting him feel her heart beat.
She yawned and slowly moved her thumb over the back of his hand.
Hiccup smiled. "Sleep tight, Astrid," Hiccup whispered into her cheek as he leaned over to her before pressing a kiss to her cheekbone. Lowering himself, he felt her shift and he let her go.
Astrid turned around softly and wrapped one of her arms around him. Hiccup did the same as pulled her against him, no space between them.
Astrid smiled. "Good night to you too, Hiccup," She whispered and leaned up, pressing her lips against his before pulling away and closing her eyes, snuggling into his chest.
(A/N: Lets just sat for a moment that the volcano didn't explode, okay?)
