Birthday Boy

(A/N: Just posted this little fic to my Tumblr @hiccstridhaddock01)

The early morning sun rose over Dragon's Edge and as every morning, Tuffnut and Ruffnut greeted it with open arms and a great serenade. Or, at least, that's what they thought.

"Gooooooood morning, Dragon's Edge!" Was heard through the horn and Hiccup groaned, pulling his pillow over his head. "I swear, if these muttonheads do this tomorrow morning, I'm gonna put them under lockdown," He muttered and heard Toothless' groan.

The door opened to his hut and he jolted up, pillow flying across the room. "Wha-huh-who...?" He fumbled, taken off guard.

"Good morning, Hiccup!" Astrid half-yelled with a laugh as she walked up the stairs to his room, a big smile on her face and her arms open wide.

"Wow, you're in a great mood today," He said, not amused at all. Astrid laughed at him and picked up the pillow from the floor, throwing it to him. "Well, of course I'm in a great mood. It's a special day today!" She exclaimed happily, smiling and walking up to her betrothed.

The twins were heard in the background, talking about the cold weather the winter had brought them. "Special day?" Hiccup asked and watched Astrid as she sat down on the edge of the bed, looking at him curiously.

"It's someone birthday today," She said in a sing-song voice, scooting closer to him. Hiccup's face dropped. "Seriously?" He asked. "You know how much I hate my birthda-ahaha!!" Astrid cut him off by starting to tickle him.

He bursts out laughing and holding his stomach while trying to pry her hands off of him so he could breathe.

Ruffnut, Tuffnut, Fishlegs and Snotlout all showers up at the door. "Aaaaaaand! Guess who's brithday it is-!"

"I swear, Tuffnut, if you don't shut up, I'm gonna break your nose," Snotlout said and held up his fist at him. Ruffnut laughed and pointed at him. "What? Like when, "Thor's Mighty Hammer," met your paper jaw?" She asked.

"I-he-we- Shut up, Ruffnut."

Astrid pulled her hands away from Hiccup's sides and let him breathe.

The other's walked up the stairs after closing the door and stood at the staircase. "Happy birthday, Hiccup," they all said and he smiled, rubbing his eyes and yawning.

"You guys know how much I hate my birthday," He said slowly and looked at everyone. "We know, Hiccup, but you're turning nineteen and it has to be celebrated. And, this year is leap year so it's actually your birthday!" Fishlegs said happily.

"Is it really?" Hiccup asked and looked at Astrid. She nodded, "Last time I checked, you're still the youngest of us all," She said and Hiccup raised an eyebrow as if questioning her. "Happy Birthday, my little 4,5 year old," Astrid said and wrapped her arm around his shoulder with a laugh.

"Four and-a-half?!" Hiccup exclaimed.

"Not really," Astrid started. "You're still older than all of us but you're 4,5 in leap years. Congratulations!" She said and pulled away.
One by one, they went forward to give their gifts to Hiccup and he had a smile on his face during the entire gift opening because he never knew he would get this one day.

A happy life, best friends and being betrothed. To the Astrid Hofferson. He never imagined he'd get any of it but he did.

Evening fell over Dragon's Edge and everyone were walking home from a great dinner that Fishlegs had made. It wasn't as good as when Heather used to be there to cook but it was close to it so no one really complained.
Hiccup walked out of the Club House, breathing in the cold and chilly air. Astrid trotted out of the Club House to catch up to her boyfriend and slipped her hand into his when she reached him.

Hiccup turned his head to look at her and she smiled at him. A smile tugged its way onto his lips and he smiled down at her, squeezing her hand.

Astrid looked forwards, her eyes full of love. "It's been a great day," She said before looking up at Hiccup. He nodded and they started to walk again. "Indeed it has been."
Silence settled over them as they walked but it wasn't awkward.

It was a rather comfortable silence. Neither of them said anything until Hiccup reached his hut. "I had a great day, Astrid. Thank you," He said and leaned down, pressing a kiss to her cheek.

She looked up at him with a raised brow.

"What are you talking about? I'm coming in," She said and pulled the hatch for the door.

"Oh," was all Hiccup managed to get out before he was pulled into the hut.
Astrid smiled at him and let go of his hand, walking up to one of his chests and opening it, taking out a wrapped gift.

"I hid this before I walked up to you this morning. I wanted to give this to you while we were alone," She said and a small blush smeared itself over her cheeks and nose.
Hiccup sighed and walked up to her, placing his hands on her arms. "M'lady, you didn't have to get me anything. None of you did. I've told you before. Having you is the greatest gift I could get."

"I know but I felt bad about not giving you something when you gave me the Betrothal Pendant so I wanted to give something to you for your birthday," The blonde explained and looked up at the young man in front of her.
Hiccup smiled down at her. "Thank you, Astrid. I appreciate it."

She smiled before hanging him the leather bound gift. "Here. It took me some time to get an idea of what to give you and I'm not sure if you'll like it but here it is," She said, a little embarrassed.

Hiccup looked at her and took the gift, holding it with one hand. He placed his left hand on her cheek and gave her a small smile before leaning down and pressing a kiss to her lips.

He pulled away and started to untie the strings around the gift. Once the strings came off, the leather did too and Hiccup's breath caught in his throat.

"You don't like it?" Astrid asked and looked at him. Hiccup's head jerked up and he looked at her. "Are you serious? I love it!" He said and wrapped his arms around her shoulders, hugging her tightly.

It was a wooden carving of Toothless and Stormfly flying in a circle with them on their backs, kissing. It wasn't very detailed but it was detailed enough to see what it was going to represent and who was who and where things were in it.

Astrid hugged back, her arms wrapping around his back. "I'm glad you like it. Took me some time to find a person that could carve it out but I ended up going to your father. I know how much he likes doing it and he was glad to help me," Astrid said softly into his shoulder.

Hiccup pulled away and walked over to the table, putting down the carving, the strings and the leather.

He walked back over to Astrid and enveloped her in a big dragon hug, never wanting to let her go. "Thank you, Astrid," He whispered into her neck. She nodded into his shoulder and the two stayed like that, just enjoying each other's presence.
